Don’t know where Kahale Warring will end up but strong first day. Physically imposing presence out there from the tight end position. One to watch moving forward. #Texans

Four rookies that have my early attention. S Chris Johnson, CB Derrick Baity Jr, WR Johnnie Dixon and WR Tyron Johnson. All had strong first day of work. Chris Johnson especially from the safety spot. #Texans

Lonnie Johnson Jr. is a long strider and can recover well in coverage. Big frame for a cornerback but movement skills are there. #Texans

Also, Tytus Howard is a good mover with his feet and Max Scharping has a few things to clean up but can see why he was successful in college. Long way to go but easy to see why the #Texans made them their selections.

O’Brien mentions that Tytus Howard will get plenty of work at left tackle. Mentions Howard can work right tackle and guard if need be. Also, Max Scharping can play both tackle spots. He has been impressed with how much they have picked up with the offense. #Texans

“Get used to the speed of the game. Get used to the strength of the game.” Bill O’Brien on what he wants his young offensive lineman to get used with the NFL game. #Texans

O’Brien mentions that during the draft process that they worked to see if Kahale Warring would be a willing blocker at the NFL level. They liked how he handled it during the workout. #Texans

O’Brien says Kahale Warring had a good day one. Also, mentions that Jordan Thomas and Jordan Akins have had good off-seasons to this point. #Texans

I wonder if John Harris will post some observations. I like content even if it's got a lot of koolaid in it.

I like my koolaid battle red.

The 1st time a coach comes out and says this group looks weak and slow will be the 1st time.

Pat = Texans orgs biggest cheerleader, so I take this piece with a grain of salt in the bigger picture.

I freakin love Jordan Thomas. Watch this guy.

So refreshing to read something encouraging for a change.

Negativity, including my own, has pulled me down lately.

:coffee:
Dont let it. I freakin love the Texans but I just came in from a wine evening on a rock and I decided in my drunken state that this is more important. And. It. Is. We will b fine but this Ejiofor thing pisses me off. Where is that bottle?

He actually did have something negative to say about Xavier Crawford.
I am very encouraged about Kahale Warring's first showing in a Texans uni.
Could be a real find.

Thanks Arlington Texan. As thanks for the heads up. Need to ignore that podcast.

the best part of it is hearing opinions from Starr..nothing crazy, sounds like the general tone of this message board... outside of that it weak talk radio type stuff, imo

If we had traded up for Dillard we wouldn't have Warring.

Do some still feel the same way? It's only day 1 but everyone thinks he looks legit.
If Warring works out to be a plus player, that will be another good reason for the Texans to have stood on 1.23. Provided, of course, that Howard turns into a good LT, maybe even outshining Dillard, though that's not a requirement. If Warring is the consolation prize for sticking at 1.23, that's not too shabby.

So give them next year's 2nd. Next years 2nd + this year's 6th. Next year's 2nd + this year's 5th. Next year's 2nd, this year's 5th, this year's 6th & this year's 7th.

If Dillard is your guy, you find a way. If he was my guy, I couldn't care less what Warring looks like on day 1 of rookie camp. Howard would have to look like Orlando Pace for me to start warming to him.

Dillard wasn't my guy in particular. I frankly didn't know enough about him or Howard or any of the other guys to make a clearly weighed choice at the time of the draft.

But the more thought and reading I put into it, I'm as reasonably convinced as an outside observer can be at this juncture: Dillard wasn't their guy. Howard was their guy and they got their guy.

Or, if by chance Dillard was their guy, it was by the slimmest of tiny margins and wasn't worth paying any price to move up.

Or, it was completely even, six of one, half-dozen of the other & they would have been just as happy with one guy as the other, again making moving up totally unnecessary.

Gaine et al are not a bunch of half-wit dolts and village idiots. These are smart, intelligent folks doing their jobs as best they can with far better research and intimate knowledge of the process, opportunities, and opportunity costs than anyone on the outside has.

Unless and until time proves they got it badly wrong on Dillard & Howard, it's time to let the Dillard angst rest. So, let's get down to watching the guys we DO have.

Every year it's the same old thing. What we see now, what we expect now, will turn into something different when the play starts in game 1. With the Texans it's usually not for the better.

meh......we'll see in September what's what.

We'll, you're absolutely right about one thing...we don't know for certain what to expect. But I plan on enjoying the lead up to the real thing. I like daydreaming about the possibilities and hope of the new season. I'm determined to have more happiness than not. It seems like some of the folks here are determined to be miserable.

That one photo of Kahale seemed to show him looking upfield while still making the catch. I noticed in the combine he dropped some passes. Haven’t heard but is that a problem for this guy. Otherwise he’s got the right physical presence. Thnx for the photos.

He has had drop issues but more correctable errors like maintaining focus through the catch than the stone hands variety.

Right on. Draftniks will be draftniks, but the draft is in the past. The players on the mini-camp field are the ones the team chose to bring to the dance. We had problems on the OLine and the organization invested top picks to address this need. Now is the time for optimism for us fans. But draftniks will be draftniks.

I don't have a problem with the Howard pick. I'm just suggesting if you want to help others move on, don't say things like...

If Warring is the consolation prize for sticking at 1.23, that's not too shabby.

It's like rubbing salt in an open wound.

I understand what you're saying. Not just the reporters, but it's like the coaches are seeing everything all rosey & positive & when the season starts we see all the real problems that obviously wasn't addressed.

It's like rookie minicamp & training camp are just photo ops.

Yes I thought there was a certain sense of urgency to get Watson some real protection going into the 2019 season but guess not, but instead of playing it safe, taking the prudent approach to protecting the franchise QBs azz it would seem the Texans (BG & O'Brien) wanted to get cute with the the first round pick ?

Wow, there's a lot of drama in that. Salt in an open wound? Sorry, but I really don't get the attitude. Reminds me of an old song from Leslie Gore (yes, I'm that old): It's my party, I can cry if I want to.

Personally, I'm tickled pink with the first three picks. If we'd traded one of our second round picks, we wouldn't have gotten both Scharping and the big TE.

And I'm not responsible for other folks "moving on." That's something a man does for himself.

Depends on how you evaluate the two. From what I have read & seen it is possible they believe the difference in pass blocking day one is minimal but long term they feel Howard is the better fit for the team.

I understand it looks "cute" & a reach when looking at the experts pre draft analysis. & I believe the experts are experts, no sarcasm here. But I've always known teams have access to the players the experts don't. Both good & bad. It was obvious there was important detrimental information the experts didn't know that all the teams new about Taylor. It's also obvious there are things at least one team fell in love with about certain players the experts didn't see.

Still, reaches were made, value was found & I don't know where Howard falls just yet.

It's just a movie, but have you seen Trouble with the Curve? Scouts get paid to do a job. Regardless how many times Devlin worked him out a Scout fell in love with him way before Devlin knew his name. & I bet a Scout or two was with Devlin on each of those work outs, verifying what the original scout saw in the beginning.

If Howard is good then this will be a moot point.

I'm with you

Hopefully Gaine/Devlin got this right.

How about trading down in the 2nd to get another 3rd and if Scharping isn't there pick Warring/Cajuste?

Gaine has done what he wanted, we as fans have to accept what he's done and move forward to checking out the guys he picked and how they look.

Who is the last SWAC OL that was good? Art Shell/Gene Upshaw?

Right. Say what you want, it's just a message board. If you post enough opinions, you'll end up be proven right. And wrong.

I understand. I guess I read you wrong.

This whole exchange, me & you, is one response after another. Me responding to something you said, you responding to that response, etc... You responding to someone's post about Dillard vs Howard, then saying it's time to let it go.

I'm just saying I understand it's hard for them (because I'm on your side of the argument) to let it go when we keep bringing it up, or responding to it, or adding to the conversation we want to move on from.

Know how slow BOB's team start out every yr, taking the Saints and the points is easy $$$$ in game #1.

Saints all pro LT Terron Armstead from Arkansas Pine-Bluff.

This is true and I like Harris! He’s one of the most knowledgeable football minds in the city. I give him a pass for taking the $ and holding his tongue on all things not Battle Red Koolaid.
I too like Harris and his optimism. What I don’t like is his overboard criticism of other teams. To me it’s okay to admit the Colts have done a good/great job with their last 2 seasons acquisitions. The Titans and Jags have had moderate success recently, as have the Texans.

Maybe in his printed material he’s overly critical but on Texans all access he gives them kudos much more. Heck this week he said that the Jags 5th round RB Ryquell Armstead will be overtaking Fournette as soon as he gets injured!
