Texans random thought of the day

lot of times players have to switch positions to find they're natural fit in the NFL. Kareem is an excellent example, hybrid safety is more comfortable fit than pure cover cornerback, always been plus tackler, but lacked length, quickness and long speed to cover on an island. We all remember Glover Quin?

The schedule makers really did the Texans some favors here. The Texans play one football game between 10/26 and 11/17 just in time for mid-to late season injuries to heel..,after the Redskins game there is a rare and nice three week home stand.

Everything is really the Texans hands in terms of the division..I will see about the "other" or "playoffs" once the business is taken care of...since we are already operating beyond my expectation

Nuk is 106 yards away from 1,000 rec yards this season. He is also 37 catches away from 100; would be the second time he breaks 100 catches (111 is his career high). This man has been nothing but spectacular for us.

I remember when People on here were mad, because we didn't take Cordarelle Patterson - Patterson was the big Play Superstar guy while Hopkins was considered a Little slow and more of a posession Receiver... how Things have changed...

Hopkins is a possession receiver who lacks elite speed.

Just an extraordinary one who has worked on being more dynamic with ball in hand to his credit.

Dude.... you cannot play scared.

So you have the pitchfork posse screaming "Watson needs to learn he can't be taking hits, he will never make it long" etc.

Then you have the coach draw up the first option play in the NFL over the last 5 years? Von Miller could have leveled Watson he actually took it easy.

So what is it? Coach puts him in danger it's "you can't be scared" but if Watson is trying to make plays and taking hits he's being careless?

Coaches that have made OB look good:

Vance Joseph
Jason Garrett

Frank Reich? Doug Marrone?

I’m sure we all remember how horrible Kareem played as a rookie. I thought we blew that pick but credit to him for not listening to people like me and just grinding and becoming a strong contributor.

On the radio this morning, he credited Aaron Glenn with teaching what to look for studying film among other things. Dude is definitely balling.

I heard that too. Cool to hear that. I had hoped Kevin Johnson would be like Kareem in that he struggled early on then found his way but I doubt he’ll come back or should come back from the serious concussion issues.

Like I said in the other thread, they don't have to make it their bread & butter play (that's Lamar Miller up the middle); just don't take it out of the playbook cause you skerd Watson might get hurt.

Is it my imagination, or have the Texans fortunes done an about face?
I remember how our luck has been abominable in the past few years, but now we are scratching out wins where usually we would get our hats handed to us.
Even JJ has returned to us in all his glory and many on these boards including myself thought that would be almost too good to be true.
DW4 seems to be none the worse for his run of injuries as well - so that's our big two coming up roses and that's huge for this team.
I just hope I haven't now jinxed them...:cutthroat:

The Texans worked out former Kansas City Chiefs CB Ashton Lampkin. He tore his ACL Sept 2017 and was released with an injury settlement this past mid Aug.

I remember Texans losing because a batted down Hail Mary landed right into the opposing teams player, the Rosencopter, 2 QB's going down in 3 weeks on a loaded team, etc, etc, etc. So, I don't care if we win because of a missed kick or a series of bad decisions by the other coach. I'll take the W.

Winning close games and winning the turnover battle are cyclical stats. Look how bad the Texans were last year in one score games. They tend to flip flop.

#Texans DB Kareem Jackson continued his career year vs the Broncos. He produced 2 PBUs & allowed 6 catches on 11 targets for just 54 yards & a passer rating of 68.

His grades & rank for qualifying CBs in Week 9:

85.5 overall (2nd)

90.0 run-defense (1st)

81.6 coverage grade (9th)

He looked like the DPOTW last week. He was everywhere all the time. Best game I've seen from Jackson and we needed it.

even better we seem to be catching breaks from referees. First time I can remember enjoying the bye week. Dang Dallas though could have made it better but Cowboys looked bad.

Didn't see that game but fortunately we still hold a two game lead on them.
Tacks have 8 games left, one against Pats so I fancy our chances against them in the division.
Oddly enough, they have very similar draw the rest of the way.

Titans took control of the game in the second half and really dominated. That's gonna be a tough game for us when we meet them here @ NRG later this month.

That would be a nice win if they're playing like that when we beat them.

Nice to see KJax delivering on what I thought since his first season. KJax was Safety being forced to make a living as a CB.

He's spent almost the entire season at CB. Calling him a safety doesn't make him one, it didn't make him one last year despite playing one in Vrabel's mess of a system. His most natural position is outside corner, preferably player-based CB1. Sadly that gets passed to Bouye and Wright, while Kareem does the dirty work that makes them look good due to injury or lack of talent or coaching or whatever else ... and that's unfortunately been his career, 'what we need'. Thanks to Matthieu being similarly versatile, Kareem's role of 'what we need' hasn't crippled his production this year. At CB1 he essentially shut down Sanders who I have with Antonio Brown as almost impossible to cover, only giving up one real pass on a complex route in the 4th from the slot (and he actually, impossibly, tipped the ball).

Appreciate your opinion but KJax will always be a better S than he ever was a CB. When the DL couldn't put pressure on the QB's, KJax was exposed each and every season.

Count the number of plays he's had at safety, it's not at all what you think. It's not enough to consider him to have played the position. As far as exposed, no. Exposed is the rotation of substitutes he has to cover for and our crap safeties. Same as 'Joseph is too old to cover the deep passes' for the past several years. No - between chemistry and poor talent, he's at the mercy of (and blamed for) the 'talent' around him that is different every year. Kareem is a corner, he's a great corner, and would be an elite corner if he had someone like Matthieu and Reed behind him, and injuries allowed him to play his natural position of outside corner or lockdown corner ... OH WAIT.

He looked damn good at CB last Sunday

He has been one of PFF's highest graded corners and safeties this year. He is doing it everywhere on the field, I think the last PFF graphic I saw they didn't even have him listed as corner or safety but like a flex or something.

Yup, Quin was a former CB turned stud Safety. At this rate he'll be a fan favorite before the offseason and get a big pay check somewhere else...just like who?

Quin spent a single season as a rookie hybrid before being purposed as a safety. Kareem spent 3 days ago at CB1 against a top 10 receiver.

Found what you must have seen.........................

Flex Defense (PFF week 9)

Kareem Jackson, Houston Texans85.5 overall grade
Jackson saw 11 targets in coverage against the Broncos but allowed six receptions for just 54 yards. 18 of those yards came on one play, meaning that his other four receptions allowed went for an average of just 7.2 yards per catch.

Looks like newly obtained WR Deandre Carter has been with the Ravens, Raiders, Patriots, and 49ers PSs..............and with the Eagles active roster this season. The Eagles brought him in to sub Darren Sproles who had been out since week 1. He played mostly STs........... has 10 punt returns and 10 kick returns on the season. Will probably be tried at the slot also. In 2015, he ran a 4.44 40, but it was his 1.45 second 10 yard split that attracted attention. He's only 5'8" 190 pounds............no significant injury history.
