Texans might trade off first pick

The Texans and Charlie Casserly better be looking at every possible scenario. This doesn't mean that they'll trade it, but at least they're looking for it. Didn't Bob McNair even say that they won't trade it unless someone gives them a Godfather proposal? If they do trade it, although it might not be a Herschel Walker or Ricky Williams type trade, you could probably get more in return in terms of draft picks this year than you could last year. I would not mind at all if we traded down to #4 or #5 and picked up D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Mario Williams, or AJ Hawk. Heck, I wouldn't mind if we traded down to #7 or #8 and drafted Tamba Hali from Penn State. If the Texans do trade it, it will be a pretty nice deal.

Just think of all the pick the team could get this year. Three of the most hyped players to come out in years and we have the first pick. We could potentually make a trade like the Saints did to get Ricky Williams.

I dont think we need to get a huge amount of picks in return for the number one. This is one of the deepest drafts in recent years, particularly at positions we have needs at. An extra 2nd and an extra 3rd from the Jets would be enough for me to trade down to the #4 with them. We could then go for D'Brick or Mario, then Davin Joseph and Abdul Hodge in the second, DeMario Minter, Tim Day/Dave Thomas and someone like Wimberly in the third. That would be a great draft right there, not even including the potential we could draft in the later rounds...

except for 2002.. we have heard the ole trade down scenario.. If a deal comes through that overwhelms the Texans..they do it.. if not..they stay.

This does not sound good!!! I would love for Reggie to be a member of the Texans. He would be a great add. to a team that really has no Gamebreakers. Reggie is definitley that, a Gamebreaker. Oh Well, the powers that be know what they are doing. Just a wait and see game now. They might not get what they are looking for in a trade though, because the Draft is so deep. Reggie!! Reggie!! Reggie!!

you this is good and bad...it's good to know that our GM is willing to listen to trade offers...but i just don't like the fact that he's being so public with it...everytime you hear well at high ranking person in the texans organization said this or said that you're almost garenteed it's casserly...for once i'd like this guy to keep his mouth shut and let his actions speak for him

Lets go get that Brick to strengthen our line... in the words of Stone Cold Steve Austin "Can I get a hell yeah!!!!!!" :redtowel:

This doesn't sound too good:dontknowa

You relize that you can get like 1st round, 2nd round, future 2nd round, 4th round pick with the 1st overal pick...especially with reggie bush, Matt Lienart, and Jay Cutler here? Youd be able to choose, Eric Winston, Winston Justice, D'Brick, Micheal Huff, Tye Hill, SanAntonio Holmes, Chad Jackson, Bobby Carpenter, Sinorice Moss, Cedric Griffin, Haloti Ngata ect...

I want Reggie Bush!! But if we trade down I want Mario Williams. I don't want to draft D'brick out of need.

Why not? He's projected as a franchise offensive lineman, someone who we don't have on our line. A case can be made for Chester Pitts, but c'mon, does Chester Pitts really look like a franchise o-lineman? We NEED an offensive lineman, and it would be smart to pick the best one to come out in a while. He's probably even more hyped than Robert Gallery was coming out of Iowa. I want Reggie Bush more than any other of the top prospects, but if we do trade down I would prefer us to pick D'Brickashaw over anyone else.

That's the point you can make a case for Pitts. Who can we make a case for at DE. Seriously who would Williams have to really compete with for that spot. Also a defensive player can come in and make an impact faster than an offensive player in alot of cases. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't ***** if we got D'brick, but I think Williams can have a more immediate effect and be a more elite player.

If you have the #1 pick, you are going to look at every option avaliable because you are sitting on a potential gold mine. Even if you are not talking to anyone, you are going to lead on like you are in talks with other teams. That might sweeten the deal if another team is badly wanting to get your pick.

Even if the Texans were to trade the pick, the possibility of it happening now is probably kind of low. If we trade it, I would be surprised if it was more than a week before the draft. Heck, I'd be a surprised if it was more than 1 day before the draft.

You know, I gotta be honest here and say that I no longer really care what the Texans do with the first pick. I don't care if they trade it and I don't care if they draft Reggie Bush with it or even Vince Young. I'm sick of the subject which is kind of out of character for me. I just want the draft to get here because for me March is "sports hell". College basketball sucks (IMHO) and this is the time of year when I feel farthest away from anything interesting that's also NFL related.

Do whatever you want with the Charlie. I'll ***** about it when it happens if necessary.

I think the key will be a #1 next year. If a team won't give that up I don't think you make the trade. Two first round picks next year offers a ton of possibilities. I will assume that the team won't trade too far down. I will also assume that the Texans won't be in the playoffs, nor probably will the team they are trading with. This would give them 2 of the top 20 picks next season. You have Paul Posluszny, the Penn St. LB coming out. The big Wisconsin OT, Joe Thomas, will be in the draft as well. If they go with Williams instead of Ferguson, Thomas could be a good fit on the line.

This wouldnt worry me as much if CC wasnt the GM. It gives more opportunity to make bad picks. We go from a gauranteed good pick to maybe 3 or 4 bad ones with CC. Why is this dude still hear?

It seems pretty obvious and I got tired of beating this idea but it's time to start talking about what makes most sense again after recent events. I mean it looks like Winston won't slip past Tampa in all likelihood and Daryn Colledge just got outbenched by Jay Cutler! Basic fundamentals that even I feel confident in expressing is the game is more than 50 % won in the trenches and almost five years later the o-line is a national point of countless ridicule. I am afraid our new coaches could get a little arrogant and assume they can make it worth with the same group ala Hoke and P-Buc. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to get the concensus top o-lineman and get several high picks to boot. It would seem like a waste and major gamble not to cash in.

The funny thing is, we could trade with the Jets and possibly STILL get Bush.

1. Jets - Leinart
2. New Orleans - Cutler/Young
3. Tennessee - Cutler/Young/Ferguson
4. Houston - Bush/Ferguson/Young/Mario Williams

Not to mention whatever additional players/picks we would get as a result of the trade-down. If the Jets want to go in a new direction, Leinart would be a nice start.

I have said it a million times. Just my opinion 1) Kubiak's system doesn't call for a guy to be a Top 5 lineman. The O-coordinator on 610 said they took smaller, scrappier guys who loved to play and fit them in the system. They didn't take a guy higher than 20 in the first round and everyone else was FA or 4th round and below. 2) Pitt has a top line and all of their 1st rounders are around the 30th pick. Same with NE, who only has the one 1st rounder and lower guys. This bodes well for our first pick of the second round. 3) Why not get a skill guy on O or D and still be able to get a top of the line O-lineman in a deep O-lineman draft? We have 3 more picks in the Top 66.

Yes the guy is a freak, that would be good to have a guy like that.

Yeah I read through one paper and then McClain that the guy showed more skill than Peppers at the combine.

Relax....Charley just threw down the River. Is he bluffing? Let's see who calls and who raises?

No surprise. The only way we can screw this up is to do what we did in 2002 and commit to a player before the draft. And we all know how that worked out for us.

Two Scenarios, A Trade with either Jets, Titans.

If you a Reggie Bush Fan, You would hope to take a trade with the Titans.

Trade with the Jets, You would have a shot at Reggie Bush,Vince Young, DBrick, AJ Hawk and Mario Williams.

Titans Trade:

1. Titans Lienart/ Cutler

2. Saints Cutler/ Lienart

3. Texans Reggie Bush

4. Jets Dbrick/Young

Jets Trade:

1. Jets: Lienart/Cutler

2. Saints Cutler/ Lienart

3. Titans Young/Bush

4. Texans Bush/Dbrick/Young/ AJ Hawk. :homer:

Well what did y'all expect Casserly to say? He knows what's going on and I wouldn't buy into anything he says right now.

I don't know why this is all of the sudden news. Casserly has said from the very beginning that they will shop the pick around to gauge its value. I believe that they will shop it around but end up not trading it come draft day.

I agree, just think we have another 60 days or so of this stuff to endure until draft day :brickwall

I think we have three targets NO, TEN & NYJ...if we can get them excited about 1 player like Linehart or poss Cutler...enticing a bidding war is poss.

Best scenario has us trading w/ NO first, for Linehart or Cutler, and then driving another trade w/ either TEN or NYJ for the other QB prospect. Anything is poss w/ amount of talent at top of this draft.

We may be even to trade down further, but I would not like to leave the elite 7 (Bush, Linehart, Fergurson, M. Williams, Hawk, Young, Cutler--could change w/ combine/workouts)...unless we're left with a QB as our pick. I really like some folks in 2nd tier of 1st like--Greenway, Huff, etc.

This is the way I see it, we need defense, Offensive Line, maybe a corner, a linebacker or 2.

I wouldnt mind if we traded up, because dominick davis has made plays with the worst line in the league. Give him a decent line, possibilities?

Anyway I saw that DL from Ohio State, 45 reps of 225 at the combine, that means major strength, and he could get past those offensive linemen with a little bit of coaching, so if we trade down the possibilities could be endless.

I really would like to see a trade with Green Bay where we get their 1st pick (5th Overall), 2nd round pick, next years 1st and 2nd and Donald Driver

Here are some thoughts in todays Daily Quickie on ESPN

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/quickie

Shanoff wonders if that trade scenario of his would sit well with NE fans? It wouldn't sit well with Texans fans. Move down 20 spots and gain a couple more mid round picks this year, and some players they want to move to save on cap space. Having 7 picks in the first 4 rounds with none being higher than 21 wouldn't help the Texans. They need to spread those extra picks out into next season (1st round or we don't listen). He must be smoking something good.

ESPN is really reaching on this one. This trade goes against the whole team identity that Bellicheck has been building over the past few years.

I think all the "trade downers" are getting a lil to excited about this. Bush is a player that can take us to champiopnship level status. He is a gamebreaker, and he has been winning all his life. Everyone in the Texans organization is a "want-to be" right now, except for Kubiak who has 3 SB rings. Bush is what can make this team into a potential contender. In any sport you have to have a big playmaker to win the ultimate prize.:twocents:
