Vince Young this year Adrian Peterson next year

TheManTheMyth

Practice Squad
If the texans were to draft vince young this year the team would not get much better because young would sit and carr would start like what is happening in San Diego. Then next year we sould have a top 5 pick again and we could get Oklahoma's stud and native texan Adrian Peterson

Good plan, I always enjoy shooting for a losing season and the top of next year's draft. Especially before this year's draft.

We don't need OU homers spreading their Adrian Peterson propoganda on this board. Bush is a god and Carr is a future Hall of Famer.

For that to happen, Carr is going to have to do well next season. I don't think he will. by week eight, Kubiak is going to realize we saw the best Carr had to offer in 2004........

then he'll start Vince week 9 :spy:

If you draft Brick this year, you mean trade down for AD next year, because the Texans will be picking #1 again....

Hope you remember DC's first year at QB, and the learning process, he ran a more pro style in college than VY, so the learning process is going to be even tougher, and VY has proven he doesn't have the power upstairs to learn a prostyle in 2 years nevermind half an offseason and training camp.

Drafting VY means the UT fans are happy and the level headded ones are claiming "I told you he was a college superstar but a pro flop."

What does running a pro-style offense have to do with adam from eve?

Can we run off a list of the number of BUST that ran pro-style offenses. Its a matter of can you adjust to the speed and complexity of the pro game.

Drafting VY doesn't mean squat other than that's who they thought was best for the team. I'm going to support whomever we draft. You can disagree with the pick for sure like most of us did last year.

I'm just curious as to what makes you assume he doens't have it upstairs?

Maybe we should run the spread....... I mean if it's all that at the college level. Dumb down, and simple, yet can't be stopped...... It's got to be awesome. take piss-poor to no good talent.... throw in the spread....... BAM... national Championship Oklahoma............. BAM.......... national championship Texas. Imagine Leinart in the spread?? You put a powerhouse QB in the spread against all those silly WAC defenses................. or David Carr.. put him in the spread. He's got a stronger arm than Vince, he's just as mobile. You put that kind of talent in the spread, I'm talking multiple Superbowls.

If the spread is all that, why don't every team run it. College/Pros/Canada/Europe??

Why? I know that was sarcasm thunder, cuz you seem to have more football moxy than that. What do y'all think of the idea of letting the chips fall where they may if we don't draft VY.Say we take Bush/trade down,DC has 3 years left in contract,so Let VY sign a 3 year deal with whoever,if he want's to play here so bad and DC is still not showing anything,In3 years we take him in FA.Let another team groom him and do the dirty work while we get the rest of the pieces of the puzzle in place.

it was pretty huge in the early 90s. warren moon got into the HOF operating from a run and shoot for a while. it may come back, but i doubt it. it's certainly not impossible though; the league goes in cycles

I really kind of like this idea. Young would be a good speed addition but how can we rely on the fact that Peterson stays healthy through out this year of college? Plus I beleive its time we see some results.

Drafting AP is a good idea. I am not a VY fan though. I believe Carr can do well given the time.

I really hope that we trade with the Jets or Raiders get our guy in Mario Williams either way and one of those teams is picking in the top 10 next year and we have their pick along with ours(hopefully best team not to make playoffs) and we can get AP then if we need him. I likely will be more open to the idea of AP than Reggie Bush. AP has been a stud since he stepped on campus Reggie took two years to really mature into one. Not bashing just saying. Either way AP would be sweet if DD, Wells, and Morency prove they cannot stay healthy or get the job done.

So many people get enamored with the skill positions that they forget there are 16 other starters on offense and defense. I don't want to see us with 50% of our payroll locked into our offense like the Colts. Best case scenario if you do that is a playoff caliber team that loses in the trenches come playoff time.

Avoid the Colt's Syndrome and vote for the Big Uglies in 2006!!! (I think I am going to change this to my sig).

Why would anybody want to get a running back coming out of college now with a #1 pick, when the most NFL ready running back talent is still playing in the NCAA? The man had nearly 2000 yards as a Freshman and I do believe that he did not start the first couple of games. The only reason he didn't have that production this year is because they had a Freshman QB and they stacked 10 guys in the box to stop him and he still broke big runs, bad ankle and all. He has the breakaway speed of an NFL back as well as the power to run through and over tacklers...There is no real reason to believe that the Texans will be above 5-11 or 6-10 next season (new offensive/defensive schemes, new/young personnel) I can not imagine how dominant this team could be on offense within three years with Young, Peterson and an improved supporting cast...

Peterson is a stud, but what worries me is injuries. His ankle slowed him down a lot this year, and with his running style it exposes him to a lot of big time hits. He might be able to shrug off those defenders in the college ranks, but those hits will take a toll over a 16 game pro season if he doesn't change his style.

That is a worry, but every back has injuries. He might be able to adjust his running style, but I would like to see his junior season before saying he has to change.

A sprained ankle doesn't worry me injury-wise. Recurring knee problems, muscle/tendon problems (see Joppru), shoulder problems for QBs (see Pennington) and those types of injuries worry me, but an occasional sprained ankle isn't really a problem with the player, just a fluke incident. I agree though that his running style does expose him to more big hits that can possibly lead to injuries, but I do like his powerful running style and he already has a man's body but could easily add some weight, and he has pretty good speed to go with it. I prefer his style of runner to that of Reggie Bush, but that's an entirely different argument. Maybe the Falcons will trade up for the #1 pick and grab Reggie this year, then find a way to trade up and get Peterson next year so they can trade in Dunn's aging body and Duckett's recent ineffectiveness and have a true thunder and lightning duo with young studly RBs. Purely a hypothetical that will never come to fruition, but an interesting thought nonetheless for a team that runs the ball a ton and is relatively less secure at RB than a team like Denver or Kansas City.

Eventhough that won't come to fruition, picturing Vick, Bush, and Peterson in one backfield would just unbelievable....If they put an extra cb in the game to cover RB then AP would just kill you inside. If you try to leave in an LB to stop the run, then RB would abuse him when he goes in motion. And if you have a spy on vick, the play-action bootlegs which just be murder. This would be every off. coordinator's dream and every defensive coordinators nightmare...

I'm not saying he should make a wholesale change or anything in his style, but perhaps watch a few tapes of Marcus Allen. That guy did not have the biggest build but he was always able to avoid the kill shot and one reason why he was able to last in the league so long. I always noticed a difference with Allen when he ran inside versus outside. He seemed to run with a lower center of gravity between the tackles but then when you saw him in the open he was long striding. I always found that remarkable and I wondered if it was learned or if it just came natural...

That would be freaky, but at the same time it would be hard to find enough snaps to keep everyone happy and I'm not sure how well it would actually work in real life, it would be real nice on Madden though.

i have a question, wouldn't we have a big problem if that happened. if you are saying what i think you are saying then we draft vince #1 and then give the keys to carr for one year and he takes us to the playoffs and are left with a qb controversy much like san diego. how does that help our situation? i have never been in the draft vince camp, but if we do i don't want to leave any doubt that vince is our guy. the chargers are screwed because there is no way they can get equal value for rivers, if that is who they trade. so if we take vince get rid of carr and rebuild.

i truly believe that can happen Carr has a lot in him and it'll show either here or w/ another team if that ever happens

You've GOT to trade Carr ...it's the only way. You can STILL get good value for him ...you draft Vince ...and pick up Josh McCown via Free Agency (YEAH I WENT TO SAM HOUSTON STATE UNIVERSITY ...SOOOO WHAT!!!!) LoL.

That would give Vince the same type of Redshirt season he needed at Texas ...

And I STILL say ...Carr & AJ to NO for the #2 could work.

Please tell me you're being sarcastic

Vince is ignorant when it comes to prostyle offenses, he had 2 years and still couldn't figure it out.

As I said in the other thread you posted this:
Now this is stupid if you're being serious, our QB ($8 million cap hit) and our only legitimate WR ($7 million cap hit) for the #2 pick? Who is Vince supposed to throw to then? Keep Bradford on to drop more passes or will he magically catch Vince's throws? Are Bush (who VY people have been complaining about as a non-every-down RB) and Vince supposed to be able to run an offense by themselves?

The only way we would end up getting Peterson next year is if we have another horrible season. If that happens I'd rather have Bush this year and Brady Quinn next.
