How about Tony Romo in Houston

Like WolverineFan said they won't take it all the way to June. If.he hangs a toenail in OTAs they're on the hook for his whole salary this year.

Frankly I kind of wish they would push it past the draft so the Texans have to draft without considering him. That's if they can't do a trade for that Brown's 4th or later.
I believe if Jerry really wanted to get creative protecting Romo from a hang nail injury, he could have him essentially not participate in OTAs in a normal fashion..........like having him play catch on the field with a offensive guard 1 foot inside the far sideline...............:chef:

There were some posters here who were not as fond of GK but yes the better share of negative comments I read came via another board.

If I recall correctly the majority of the hate has always be directed towards Rick (on this board).

Even when people started calling for GK to get fired it was always because they wanted a clean start or because they thought Gary couldn't handle it (after his health issues).

I could be remembering wrong tho, I don't read all the threads

There was a fair share of people who said Kubiak's system was out of date or figured out by the league. And there were the ones who said he was a mediocre coach, the kind who couldn't lead a team to the SB.

In before someone starts claiming that Kubiak didn't run his system in Denver, PM ran his, and that GK had nothing to do with the SB win, it was the defense.

You have to admit that pretty good DC inherited a pretty good top 5 defense.

Wade being the DC in Denver was like Phil Jackson going to coach the Lakers. Yeah, he was a proven great coach, but that team was loaded.

my point was that Gary had a great defence here in houston as well, with the same defensive coordinator. So if someone wants to argue that the Defence in Denver was the only reason why they won the SB maybe that's not the whole story.

Of course it isn't the whole story. They can make that argument. Doesn't mean it is correct. Some people can't move on and allow him his earned glory.

Tony Romo is no Calvin Johnson.
Agreed. He's won two playoff games. Calvin Johnson won zero.

Also, is anybody keeping tabs on the Adrian Peterson situation? At what point would the Texans show any interest if any? He lives in Houston and it would be a lot like the developing Marshawn Lynch to the Raiders story. Apparently unretiring to join his hometown team if the Seahawks let him out of his contract.

NFL Insiders on ESPN says AP would be wise to wait it out.
Let's say Lamar Miller tears an ACL in training camp or something.
At that point would it not make a whole lot of sense?

Not to be so drastic but basically if an injury develops...

Even DeAndre Hopkins has been recruiting Adrian Peterson to the Texans this off-season. Even said how it would be cool if AP and Lamar Miller can split carries in 2016. Our best offensive player wants AP here.

What better way to make D-Hop happy, in hopes of re-signing him long term, by bringing in a good quarterback and running back? I don't want him to leave when his contract is up.

How'd it work out the last time a star player lobbied for his friend to come here and was listened to?

I think AP has a lot to prove and he still believes he can rush for 1600+ yards and 15 TDs. I'm excited by the prospect of him at least splitting carries. So he doesn't have to carry the entire load.

And I'm already banking on our red-zone offense becoming a heck of a lot better with Tony Romo and his elite accuracy. Just keep the man on his feet and great things will happen.

That one TD drive he had in 2016 earned him $64 dollars of bonus money. And his one healthy series last year still looked better than any quarterback the Texans have ever had. LOL

DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller can both run that pump 'n go route. The ball is thrown right where the intended target can catch it and nobody else. Just a beautiful touch pass by Romo.

Our problem is we need an improved Oline a lot more than we need an improved RB on the roster. We need both though.

Heard some speculation on Dallas radio today that in Jerry's perverted mind he may want to keep Romo and wants to unload Dak for a ransom. I don't believe that because it's so ridiculous, but just the fact they're talking about it...

....means it's a slow news day and they don't have anything.

I think that Jerry Jones and Bob Mcnair will try to strike some sort of deal at next week's Owner's meeting where Mcnair will two of the Texans 3rd and 5th round picks for the next 2 years if and only if Jerry releases Romo.

Can't do what it sounds like you are suggesting.

Plus getting his current contract would be good for the Texans. Romo could be cut with no dead money.

I'm of the opinion that if something isn't resolved at the owner's meeting, then we should just walk away from the trade.

So far no one has approached Dallas about a trade concerning Tony Romo. There is nothing to walk away from.

I haven't seen anything where a trade was definitely proposed by any team this year... only speculation that the Texans and Broncos might be interested enough to offer one... and the Texans reportedly NOT willing to trade for Romo

The Broncos have disclaimed any interest in a trade.

Don't we have our full compliment of picks in this upcoming 2017 draft, along with the Browns' fourth-round pick? So we have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd and two 4ths if I'm not mistaken.

The Browns have our 2018 2nd-round pick but that's so far away it's so meaningless to me especially if we win the Super Bowl next year.

But couldn't we just offer the Cowboys one of our fourth-round picks and get it over with? Bring Tony Romo in right now and start to focus on the upcoming draft. I assume we'll also draft a quarterback in the early rounds, perhaps with that other fourth-round pick. Maybe as early as the second or third round if there's somebody there that we can't pass up.

I'm tired of playing this cat-and-mouse game with Jerry Jones' big ego every day. Our own front office is leaking out to the media that they have no interest in trading for Tony Romo but they will be interested once he's released. My goodness gracious, it's that type of lackadaisical and short-sighted attitude which is why we never seem to land a good quarterback.

I'm ready to win big in 2017: It's Super Bowl or bust for the Texans next year. I don't want to hear any excuses as to why this or that can't be done. I want the nay sayers to choke on that crow as J.J. Watt returns to his old dominating self - even quicker and more explosive off the snap with his recent weight loss. We have a trio of pass rushers: Watt, Clowney and Mercilus, that are undoubtedly the best in the NFL. Those three may combine for the most sacks of any three teammates in one season in NFL History.

I think the $24M, $25M, and $23M cap hits are the problem w trading for Tony and his contract. I can't see us getting into that contract and giving up a pick after paying to unload Brock.

That's if he stays in Dallas. A team trading for him would only be responsible for base salary so $14.0, $19.5, $20.5. Dallas eats the rest.

That's actually very reasonable. Probably a year longer than I'd want but the $3.2M dead money for the final year isn't unreasonable.

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes with negotiations. I doubt draft picks are holding up the trade unless Jerry is asking for a 3rd or higher. I'm more of the opinion that Romo is trying to have his contract modified to include guaranteed money. Depending upon how much he wants guaranteed could be what's holding up a trade. The trade works out better for both teams than him being cut & resigned, imo.

Again, there have been no talks between Houston & Dallas. The Texans are going to sit & wait for Romo to be released.

Jerrah has no leverage, imo, the Texas should be inquiring about a trade. I would think Jerry will take just about anything as he was going to release Romo last week. I'd start at Clowney, go as high as Cleveland's 4th, try to get a 6th & Romo in return.

But I would definitely want Romo on his current contract.

I am seriously grateful some of you are NOT the Texans GM

LOL Wut???

Damn, all this drama over this crap. I cannot wait for the day to sign onto here and finally see that something's been done about it. This is getting older than Davy Crockett's Buckskin rubber.
