KEYS to winning next week?

Supertoad

Rookie
What are the 3 most important keys to winning next week. For me it is:

1) Don't let Ervin return balls (he has been bad all year and had 2 fumbles today) put in Hunt or someone else.

2) Don't run up the middle (we average 1.5 yards when we do this).

3) Don't let up if we are ahead. This is dangerous and Brady or Smith will rip us to shreds if we do.

That said, Ervin did have a TD return called back because Mercilus ran into the punter. And strictly speaking, those were both muffs, not fumbles. Point taken otherwise, though.

I have noticed a reliable tendency for this team to run up the middle on 2nd and 10 after a 1st down incompletion. This is almost always stopped for two yards or less. This team, especially Miller, seems to be more effective running off-tackle.

And you never see a Bill Belichick team do what BO'B (and Kubes before him) did with a solid second half lead -- go ultra-conservative and let the opponent catch up. O'B was a Belichick disciple for a while; I guess he never learned this part of it.

I think #2 is not going to change. Lamar Miller is awful and for some reason we havent benched him. Or changed the calls on the run

We have e to have a perfect game to win against the Pats. I'm not convinced we can win without at least 1 defensive or special teams TD

The defense needs to put consistent heavy pressure on Brady.

Brock needs to be solid without turnovers.

BoB needs to ditch the wussified game plan against patriots like he had the last time they met.

We need our defense to play their best game of the year, we need our offense to play error free, we need to stay healthy

IF they play the Pats, well the win was nice but the season is over.

They ain't beating this current Pats. That just isn't happening.

They could injure Brady on the first series, and Jimmy is ten times better than Oz. He'd still outplay him considerably for the win.

I don't like that OB decided to turtle, but when did the Raiders ever catch up? They were up 13 at the half, 20 in the 4th quarter and won by 13.

Winning next week? Seriously?

I can't even imagine that happening in my wildest fantasies at this point. Next week is going to be another nationally broadcast depantsing.

The opposition always puts together a good drive once the prevent mentality kicks in. One good drive is pretty much a given. It's putting a stop to it during or after that one good drive that matters.

Bill has been with George O'Leary a lot longer than he's been with Belichick. Godsey has too.

We might be using Erhardt-Perkins terminology, but we're using O'Leary concepts.

Or... we don't have Tom Brady & it just looks different.

That is a good point, but I also think if the Defense can play tough and keep the Patriots score under ours, it could be a key factor.

Patriots, Kraft, and Brady especially will remember that Mcnair was one of the owners that pushed Goodell to carry on that Deflategate frame job. Our dumbass owner never knows when to shut his mouth. They'll be salivating for this match up.

So what's the scenario? Fins pull off an upset at Pittsburgh tomorrow, we go to KC and Dolphins go to NE right?
If Pitt wins we go to NE?
Do I have that right?

Clearly the best case scenario for us is KC next week

Which means Miami goes to New England, and the Brady bunch beats up on them instead of us. So even if we somehow win in KC, which, granted, is more likely than a win in New England, we'll still end up going to New England at some point. I don't see a best case scenario anywhere in the playoffs for the Texans. If the Texans are to make it to the super bowl, assinheimer has to play better than he ever has. Consistently.

Someone on the defense has to channel Von Miller and his performance against the Pats in the playoffs last year. That's how you beat the Evil Empire. Otherwise... lights out, unless we get lucky, the Pats lose and we get KC. Of course, I remember what KC did to us in the playoffs last year as well, so be careful what you ask for because you just might get it...

I'm not optimistic about winning next week, at least not with this pathetic offense. The Texans are lucky they went up against one of the worst post season QB's in NFL history yesterday. Connor Cook was so overmatched it wasn't funny. In the very first quarter the Raiders resembled a boxer who knew he was gonna get knocked out before the opening bell even sounded. Cook looked like Marvis Frazier going up against Larry Holmes.

Of course, the worst post season QB performance in NFL history was our very own Brian Hoyer last year against the Chiefs, who for some reason BOB kept in the ENTIRE game!

Doesn't matter who we play our keys to victory don't change:

1) Dominate on defense!

2) Win turnover battle

3) Win field position battle

4) Win time of possession battle so our defense has enough rest to DOMINATE

And obviously score more points than the other team.

Doesn't matter who we play our keys to victory don't change:

I agree. Kansas City in Kansas City. .. they're not going to lay down & give us the game. whatever chance we have of getting past KC is only marginally better than our chance of getting past New England.

Heck, we're as healthy now as we'll ever be the rest of the way. I'd rather play New England now, before we lose another player trying to get past the Chiefs.

And I would rather play the dolphins at home. I figure 5% chance that happens... :)

Ugh. Looks like we are headed to New England next week. Steelers came to play. Hope things change

Did anyone actually expect the Dolphins to beat the Steelers?

The only playoff team Miami can beat is the Carr-less Raiders. Actually, the Raiders without Derek Carr couldn't beat the Cleveland Browns.

Have a lead at halftime. The Texans are 19-0 when leading at halftime with Bill O'Brien as head coach. No other head coach or team has done that during that time.

And every game we have played at Foxborough we've been blown out and the game was pretty much over for us at halftime. We had already lost trailing by a wide margin. So if we lead at halftime it would be a great sign for us.

As far as X's and O's, we can beat a dead horse here.
All I know is it's playoff football and anything can happen.

I think, most importantly, we score more points than the other team. :)

Looks like it's NE -- so here goes:

Defensively: TB will tear up our blitz package. Merciless/JD & DL gang are going to have their best game and bring pressure from our base package. I expect NE to exploit LB matchups -- we need to limit BMk and Cush being on the field at the same time and we may need a lighter/speed package on the field more than what we have in the past.

Offensively: We can't do what we've done and expect to win. BoB's game plan has to act like we've got a real qb -- we play like we don't trust Brock and there's blood in the water and we're going to get our teeth kicked in. If Brock doesn't deliver -- we're no worse off than if we run up the OL's ass 40 times (we lose either way). But if Brock gets it going, we have a chance. Down the field throws early (maybe the ball bounces our way and we get a PI call). Up tempo even if we're up by 7 with 10 minutes left in the game. The ball's at the 45 and it's 4th and 1 -- time to go for it. We're going to have to be aggressive as hell, play our best game, get the ball to bounce our way a few times and we've got a chance.

I am hoping for the Foxborough blizzard of all blizzards - white-out conditions rendering the forward pass virtually impossible. Both teams have to resort to a ground game slugfest, negating the difference in quarterback competency.

Texans also need to bring an air pressure gauge.
