Texans versus Raiders: AFC wild-card (Sat Jan 7 3:35 PM) game prediction!

Raiders 18
Texans 15

Its likely Osweiler starts because I can't see Savage starting with no practice if he gets cleared via concussion protocol by Friday at the earliest. Its more than likely we play Saturday and its not logical to have him start with only a walk through practice before the game Saturday.

It's unnervingly bad. I'm a bit bummed that there's absolutely no way for me to unhear that.

And does it say hail to the cholo at one point?

Man, that thing is bad.

I actually thought it was going to be "bulls on Parade" or "thunder/lighting" kickoff thing....but no. It really was that kinda bad.

Well if our QB guru, great offensive coordinator who runs this super complex offense gets his head out of his ass and actually makes some adjustments we have a chance.

If he stays with run up the middle game and then long developing pass plays that end up checkdowns short of the first down markers then it will just be more of What we seen most of the year. A feild goal and and field position battle all night.

I swear if he doesn't come out with a good gameplan and continues this trash he He's been torturing us with all year I'm going to freak out. If this is the best he can do he needs to go. This has been some of the worst offensive football I have ever seen. It's not all on the QBs either.

We've seen both QBs look somewhat decent when we go no-huddle.

I understand why they don't want to... want to keep the defense rested because that's our strength. But when you literally can't produce ANYTHING on offense unless you go to an uptempo no-huddle offense. You've gotta do it before you have to.. when you're down in the 2nd half.

Right? At the very least we should do it *once* a quarter before we HAVE to.

I wouldn't mind if we do it, get a lead, and go Gary Kubiak turtle offense the rest of the game! Would just feel better playing with a lead than trying to catch up.

Not. To mention. Going three and out is really giving the defense a rest anyway.

What an atrocious game this will be.

And it's even worse that whoever wins will likely go on and get raped by the Patriots. ******* assholes have two bye weeks this year.

It was called Super Bowl 50 instead of Super Bowl L. Was that the Lesbian angle? Anyone know, just curious?

If MIAMI can beat the Steelers like they did in week 6, we get to avoid Foxborough. KC can **** at their home sometimes....
and MIAMI can help us again by beating PATs and come to NRG for a loss....... SB :)

If Savage was playing this week, I would say "Yea man, we might can do something in the first two rounds". == With Os, there is no way in Hell...............

In the land of no QBs the team with the #1 defense in the league is king!

Texans roll over the Raiders. This QB issue is a new problem for Oakland. The Texans have had a winning record 3 years in a row starting 9 QBs in that time. Tied with the Browns for most in the NFL over that span:

Before the season, who would you rather have, conner cook or Brock lol.
They settle it on the field

I'll go on record & say I would have rather had Connor Cook. even after signing Osweiler I had hope we could get Cook in the fourth or fifth... all the talk before the draft had me thinking he could drop that far, but it didn't happen.

We've beaten teams like Oakland & Miami all year with Osweiler.

How about the possibility of Savage not clearing protocol. He's inactive and Weeden is active. For sure, though, Weeden will be taking 2nd string snaps this week until Savage is cleared.

I believe T would like to see Oz have an injury Sat and Weeden to come in and light it up for a win.

I wouldn't mind it either. I'm looking forward to the next week against - who? - New England ? Also to next year?

Not sure why Houston fans and the media are so certain that the Texans win this game. Sure I can understand them being favored, but this is no cake walk for a team like the Texans who have no offense with their 1st or 2nd string QB.

I would go with brock here IMO and he starts to suck then u can pull him

wouldn't it be better that way instead of going with Savage and if he starts to suck send in brock ...???

Maybe because on a neutral field in an international venue that was openly hostile towards them (see: lasers) they were winning in the 4th quarter. And that was with Derek Carr playing. The Raiders had a road-heavy schedule at the end of the season and would have been 0-3 on the road if not for a late 4th quarter FG against the Chargers. They were blown out by both the Chiefs (with Carr) and Broncos (without Carr).

Matt McGloin has beaten us before and I suspect he will do it again. We can't get out of own way offensively. I'm beginning to wonder if BOB is just wanting this season to end so he can get the hell out of Houston and away from Rick Smith.

The Ghost of Al Davis will prevail..

Oakland 24
Texans 6

I'm going to root for a texans win, just cause

but I'm kinda *secretly* hoping for a loss here. I am worried about which kind of message winning the wild card round would send to the decisionmakers.

ultimately, if the team went on to play into the divisional round it means it's a top 8 team right?

sure, anything is possible, but I'm starting to wonder if getting to watch a full season of entertaining football will ever be one of those possibilities

PS: last game was so bad that it's basically impossible to find any streaming link to watch it (and don't even get me started on how crappy gamepass is over here)

I am hoping a repeat of the Jacksonville game. Brock underwhelms, Savage comes in to win it.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Os came out and **** the bed a bunch like he did against Jacksonville and O'Brien pulls him again but then Brandon Weeden comes in and just destroys Oakland's defense to the tune of like 27 of 36 for 300+ yards and 2-3 TD's?

Can you imagine the amount of shitposting Thorsson would be doing the next week? I am positive beyond a shadow of a doubt that our road ends in New England with another humiliating defeat no matter who is playing but I'd dearly give anything to see Weeden come in and just go apeshit on the Raiders out of nowhere. It's the one thing our QB controversy is missing (competent play) and to have it come from a guy like Weeden who everyone (except Thorsson) has written off would be perfect.

If that happened I'd go buy a Brandon Weeden jersey. Overnight shipping and have the SOB on the next week for the massacre in New England.

Savage will not be the backup on Saturday. He is still in concussion protocol, per Sarah Barshop.

I am really hoping Weeden gets a chance to win it for us.

Where's Thorsson? Still at practice? Good for him to out in those long hours and extra reps. I hope he gets to play Saturday.

It was a little ominous how Godsey said they were putting extra time in with him.

I laughed reading a power ranking on nfl.com yesterday where they had the Texans ranked #14.

So at this stage of the season we are the 14th most likely team to win the superbowl!?

...and now its official that Conner Cook will start for the Raiders.

His stat line for last week?
in a little over 2 quarters

Connor Cook 14/21 150yds 1td 1int

Looks similar to Brocks or Tom's avg stat lines for a whole game.

Texans fan should be very nervous. We could very well get beat by the 2nd 3rd string QB this year. That's unheard of.

Wow, as a Raider fan that's a tough one. I think Osweiler will be better than rookie 3rd string QB Connor Cook, and Houston has the #1 Defense in the NFL. Normally, I'd go to this game, but my season ended when Carr broke his leg.

Texans 27
Raiders 6

It isn't really going to matter though, as whichever team wins this game is going to be eliminated next week.

Crowd starts hot - game starts slow. By the end of the first half the score is so low, the game so dull, fans are out of it. The defense has been solid as usual.

The second half begins and the raiders begin to pick up steam. Couple of field goals - winning field position. Raiders are controlling the clock and the defense is tired. Opps, running back score on a wheel route. Thanks simon.

But, we're still in this. 2 1/2 minutes to go down by 5. Kick returned to the 18. 1st down run for 5 yards. 2 nd down pass to CJ for 4 yards. 3rd down false start - i hate you Clark. Repeat 3 rd down. Oz makes a great pass to Mumphry - 1st down! 1st down screen pass but oz is sacked and fumbles. Xavier recovers the ball. 2nd and 16. Pass to fuller5 downfield and he's wide open. Oz misses. 3rd down - draw play gain of 9 by grimes. 4th and 7 with the game on the line. We called a time out to stop the clock ,but now we've only got seconds left to snap the ball. The crowd is back in it and LOUD. Oz sees we're about to get a delay of game and calls a second timeout. After a jerry Springer style exchange on the sideline between ob and oz, the offense is ready to go. 4th and 7 on the raiders 44 yard line with a minute 12 left and no timeouts. Here we go clutch city! The crowd is building to a roar and the astrodome next door shakes just a little. This is it!

The ball is snapped in a shotgun 5 wide formation. Oz drops back surveying the field. His first read is dhop double covered, 2nd read is Mumphry on an out route - no good, he's covered. 3rd read (yes he got to his 3rd read - really) lamar miller is wide open and oz slings it. The pass is on target perfectly thrown exactly where it should be. Lamar Miller is not. Miller slipped on his cut. The pass bounces off a defenders hands and into the safety's. Interception. He downs himself voluntarily. The stadium is silent before an eruption of boo's.

Somewhere Matt schaub and Warren Moon cringe unknowingly. Somewhere, Frank Reich smiles .
