A major factor that sent Ryan Fitzpatrick out of Buffalo played a pivotal role in his new team's perfect start being spoiled.

Turnovers.

The Houston Texans missing their star rusher didn't help, either.

With Arian Foster's status still in question, Fitzpatrick likely must cut down on his mistakes Sunday in Houston if he's to win his first matchup with a Bills team for which he was once the franchise quarterback.

Rookie Alfred Blue had 78 yards on 13 carries starting for Foster, but 46 of them came on one run. Either Foster or Blue has a tough assignment against a Buffalo defense which has not allowed more than 90 yards rushing in a game.

That unit, though, was picked apart by Philip Rivers in a 22-10 home loss to San Diego last Sunday. Buffalo's pass defense ranks 26th in the league at 267.3 yards per game.

The passing offense also struggled. Fitzpatrick's replacement, 2013 first-round pick EJ Manuel, completed seven of 21 for 49 yards to his wide receivers. Sammy Watkins, this year's No. 4 overall pick, was targeted eight times but had two catches for 19 yards after having eight for 117 the previous week.

What I want to see:

Stop the run!

Simple, yet it needs to be said. Some of it is the Texans needing to take it personal.

Feature a little more of the deep ball

Looked kind of effective last week, so show it off a bit.

Force turnovers, but also, keep the giveaways down

Last week must be an anomaly. 5 turnovers (if you count the turnover on downs and the blocked punt) cannot happen. Also, forcing turnovers like we did in weeks 1 and 2 also needs to a point of emphasis.

Regardless if Arian plays or not, the run game must be featured yet again

It basically won this team the first two games. Kept the D on its toes. So, Arian/Blue/Grimes, or Blue/Grimes/Brown; run game must be featured. I'm a fan of attacking your strength.

Well, welcome back from that horrific end to that mini road trip. Back in NRG, and it's time to WORK! Last week is done; we can't go back. Now, how about this: Get this win, go to 3-1, and gear up for one crazy ass week around this state? 1-0 every week is the goal, mindset and focus. LET'S MUTHA****IN' GO, TEXANS!!

Bills have two talented running backs and we are second to worst against stopping the run. Their defense also has some talented players that should be able to matchup well against us. Hoping to win, but barring a poor EJ Manuel outing, I think we lose.

Andre Johnson is seven receptions and 148 yards away from being one of the fastest men in NFL history to reach 950 career receptions and 13,000 yards receiving. On Sunday, Johnson will play in his 158th career game.

The Houston Texans lead the NFL with six forced fumbles through three games this season. All six fumbles have been forced by members of Houston’s starting secondary: CB Johnathan Joseph (2), SS D.J. Swearinger (2) and FS Kendrick Lewis (2). The Texans have recovered four of the fumbles they’ve forced and five total.

Fitz is the red herring today. Our secondary has to show up and some one other than JJ has to get pressure on the QB. If they can manage that, we can win this game. If we're planning on Fitz to carry the team and put up 21 points through the air, then we've already lost.

I am hoping it is, BUT........

*You can hardly label anything an "anomaly" at this point...the sample size is too small.

*Our up-the-gut run defense has consistently been atrocious....the only time it hasn't looked bad is when it hasn't been tested...no sign of an "anomaly."

*Arian's history and expectations of injuries is not an "anomaly."

*Fitzpatrick's turnovers when looking at his long-term record is not an "anomaly."

*The Oline not looking good is not an "anomaly."

*Dumb penalties in crucial circumstances is not an "anomaly."

*Key injured players returning with noticeable weaknesses in their game is not an "anomaly."

*Our LB play being inconsistent at best is not an "anomaly."

*Poor adjustment to play calling and game scheme on both sides of the ball is not an "anomaly."

Bottom line is that I will be hoping come week 9, we CAN look back at week 3........and say it was an "anomaly.":texflag:

This has to be Fitzpatrick's redemption game. If he can't get it done, it's time to pull the plug and go to the next qb up. Before the Fitz lovers go there, I realize everything's not his fault. He needs a dominant line. He needs a strong ground game. He needs his receivers to get seperation. That's the problem. Everything has to be perfect for Fitz. And everything's not always going to be perfect.

Look for lot's of screen passes to the RB's inside and outside, and draw plays from the Bills against the us. Possible trickeration alert with RB pass from Fred Jackson. Need to put a spy on EJ Manuel or he will hurt us with his legs on passing downs.

I hope to see us running more base 3-4 on first and second down today, but I am not going to hold my breath. We run way too much nickle and dime. Perhaps that is because we are covering for our lack of depth at LB, but it is killing us against the run.

Edit: The Bills CB's suck. We should be able to get guys behind them and make a few big plays in the air. Double moves and pick plays will make the difference in the air attack.

He was a band-aid at best to begin with. If he doesn't throw multiple picks and we win ... leave him in. If we lose and it has anything at all to do with his performance then i think we need to see what Mallet has before we let him go ni free agency next year.

Fitzpatrick knows the Bills' D tendencies. And some would say that is an advantage. But, of course, the Bills know Fitzpatrick's tendencies. And some would say that is a disadvantage. You could say that it's a wash. But if Fitzpatrick knows their tendencies, but his limited abilities hold him back from taking advantage of them, the results could be ugly as I don't believe that Foster will carry this game on his back (no pun intended).

MSR.

I don't think any Texans fan is a Fitzpatrick lover. Some just always saw him for what he really is and didn't expect more.

If the game plan is good and everybody does their job, he can keep us ahead until the clock runs out.

If it doesn't work out that way, well...

I don't think Mallett is the answer but a choke job from Fitz today and I'm all for making the switch.

Time to see if the incredible bulk we just signed was a good move or not.
Getting their two-headed running attack of C.J. Spiller and old man Jackson going should be the Bills' primary strategy against us since we have been less than stellar against decent RBs. If I were coaching the Bills, my game plan would look like our game plan against Washington and Oakland. Run, run, run, and pass just a little.

I think if we win & Fitzpatrick was as mundane as he was in our first two wins, get him out. If he's not contributing to wins, we might as well put Savage/Mallet in there to hand the ball to Arian.

I've got nothing against Fitzpatrick, really. But if we're going to handcuff him, handcuff the rookie & let's get that ball rolling.

I think the two teams are in similar situations and are fairly evenly matched. The home field advantage could be big for the Texans today. As always, turnovers will be huge, but what I have a feeling will be the key for a Texans win will be special teams. If we can just get a performance from them like in the first two games...... :thisbig:

Go Texans!

Clever...you took what I said and made it say the opposite. Of course, that doesn't address the fact that our defense (both run and pass) is overrated $&@!...but I see what your getting at.

No doubt about it, we've got a lot of improving to do on both sides of the ball. The QB is the defacto leader though. If he's playing not to lose, we're playing not to lose.

He needs to know Detroit's DEF tendencies because Jim Schwartz is the coordinator there now, vs. Wannstadt when Fitz left.

Your criticism of that statement may be justified........but I'm thinking that all players still maintain "tendencies" no matter what scheme they are in.

Welcome to the board dribbles.

NFL.com reports Houston Texans RB Arian Foster (hamstring) is moving with a slight limp right now. The team will monitor his hamstring early in the game, and determine his workload from there.

damn it wish I knew that before I started hi in FF lol
