Mark Brueners Comments!

Last night on the Texans' Web site there was a series of statements from Mark Bruener that are no longer there and they were very interesting. I will say it to the best of my recollection and see if any one else can find them or remember them. They go against the grain of Vinney and anyone else who is a Carr hater if I could loosely use that word. I wouldn't say hater. I would say they don't think Carr has the tools to be a QB.

To begin with the following was stated:

1) In the 1st half because they feared the Cardinal blitzs Carr was given a great deal of lattitude in calling plays on the field and at the line.

2) He did a great job in READING THE DEFENSES and called an outstanding game in the 1st half. Bruener was extremely complimentary of Carr in this regard.

3) Pendry took over in the 2nd half and we almost lost the game. Carr was not given the liberty of doing the play calling in the 2nd half.

Again this did appear on the Web site and I can no longer find it. It does answer the question perhaps so many of us have been asking and that is does Carr have the ability to do the job. Number 2 it really does imply that the micromanaging the game by the coaches is killing us. Number 3 the game on the field looks different from the one in the press box. What the QB sees and can deliver on is very different from what one sees from ahigh. Finally is Carr really a much better QB, but has never been given the ability to call his game just like Payton. I'm not saying it would be a Payton job, but calling a game he and the team would be comfortible with based on their abilities.

Again if this is truely what happened during the game does this also answer Reeves and McNairs questions about David and where the problems lay. Again I have stead fastly stated the problems are with the coaching staff and not McNair, Casserly, or the players. This is a very fascinating development. Again, did anyone else pick up on this......

I didn't see the quotes on the site, but I agree with what you are saying, read my post titled "Is it me?" I believe the majority of our problems lie with the coaching and playcalling. I think Carr will be re-signed and I think now with Reeves here "on the outside looking in" we will finally see our offensive line dealt with.

I see you are saying the same thing. They will probably merge the treads. I find it interesting there is a whole thread on how Carr didn't do anything, but he did help win the game. It is ashame how much time and how many players have been wasted by this coaching staff. We truely have some talent, but the coaching just is a flat bust. In addition to the coaches you mention we need an outstanding receivers coach. I believe our receivers, including AJ, are going to waste. I really question the ability of our receivers to really run precise routes. When comments are made like Bradford was just learning how to run routes in this year's training camp does make one wonder what has been going on........

True and it probably just goes to show the overall level of coaches we have, there are maybe 2 or 3 coaches here I want to stick around next season. I think if the FO came in, cleaned house as far as coaches are concerned, have a good draft and free agent period we could be at least a .500 team next season.

In reallity with the receiver core of AJ, Mathis, Gaffny and Armstron you should win more than 50% of your games if you have any kind of defense. If they are effective then DD (our whole running game) will become far more effective than it is. We should be a team well above 500, but it won't happen until the present coach group disappears and we bring on someone who will allow Carr to have a great deal more freedom and work with him rather than against him. You must work to his strengths and not his weaknesses. Our coaching staff has never worked to the strengths of our players. They have always wanted the players to play to the coaches strengths, not to the players strength.

I'd like to see a better no. 2 WR, to be honest. And mix in a receiving TE, which would help DC tremendously. A lot of teams use the TE as a relief valve when the defense brings it, but we don't have that option at the moment.

I think DC could be a servicable QB. He'll be better than what's available to us, especially considering we have so many holes to fill. Give him a couple of more years, and if he tanks, then we have our answer. While I don't think he's got the skills to ever be an MVP candidate, I still think he'll suffice as a field general if he's got the players around him that can step up.

I think the TE position is a very big part of the overall problem with the Texans Offense. And technially he would be concidered part of the OL. Yesterday we saw stone hands at TE how many were dropped?

Possible breakthrough
Should Carr become a star, Dec. 18, 2005, will likely be remembered as a significant date in the evolution of him and the Texans.

"David did an outstanding job of executing the game plan," Bruener said. "Joe basically put the entire offense on David. In my 11-year career, I've never seen the quarterback have that much responsibility.

"To put the onus on the quarterback like that, then have him execute like he did, I was very impressed.

I knew David had the talent to do it — that didn't surprise me — but to put it all on him ... that you don't see a lot."

Good words and I love to see that coming from his team mates. However, one must look at who was Bruener's QBs and the style of play that team played during his career before we start chomping at the bit.
