I'd rather get a proven HC than trying to get a coordiantor again looking for gold.

If said coaches are not available, sure, why the hell not. Anything is better than this.

:kubepalm:

yeah i'm a bit indifferent on hiring another Coordinator but i really don't think a proven HC will come here.
Cowher- will want too much and Uncle Bob won't pay up and/or some team will simply appeal to him more
Gruden- I could see this happening but it sounds like he's happy in the ESPN booth and see Cowher for other 2 reasons
Dungy- Completely done w/coaching i believe.

Ryan might be the lowest risk, or possibly Fewell from NYG.

There are a lot of good candidates out there:

Bill Cowher
John Gruden
Tony Dungy
Perry Fewell
Leslie Frazier
Jim Harbaugh
Sean McDermott
Rob Ryan

I'm not partial to any particular one at this point.

Cowher has already been rumored to be interested in the Texans job, so I don't think it's that far out that he'll come here. I'm sure McNair would pay up for a guy like Cowher, who would bring a lot of publicity and some toughness at the coaching position for the franchise.

My preferred order: Cowher, Gruden, Dungy (though I think he's done coaching), Ryan, Harbaugh, Frazier, Fewell, and McDermott.

Where do I sign the NO petition? ha ha

Please leave him in Cleveland for at least a couple more years. He's perfect for gritty Cleveland and the fans love him.

His brand of football seems to be well suited for outdoor northern teams, not fast dome type teams. Besides, he runs a creative 3-4. Not a particular good fit for Houston at this time.

The 3-4 will be just fine for this Houston team, as long as we get a NT. Have you seen our defense? Colt McCoy would throw for 350 yards, 3 TDs, and no picks against our defense.

Personally, I care less who the HC coach is, just give me some good coordinators. Primarily on defense. Is it too much to ask to have a top 15-top 10 defense for once in 10 years?!

Do you have anything to support this? Not attacking just interested in Cowher.

I'd take Ryan in a heartbeat. Atleast him and his brother appear to have a pulse, which is more than I can say for Kubiak. That man doesn't get excited about ****. I'd like to see some emotion, one way or the other. Be pissed, be angry, be happy......something. The Ryans have a swagger and you can't teach that. It's just the way they carry themselves and players will follow that. I'm all for a change. This season has ruined football for me. I'm in a bad place..........:wadepalm:

If Garrett turns the 'Boys around and still gets the boot, I'd take a run at him.

Switching to the 3-4 would be fine. Our defense is already the worst in the NFL and the switch would mean ditching the Nigerian bust from the roster.

I'd like a proven HC. Cowher, Brian Billick, or Dungy would be my top choices. Ryan would be one of the few new HC's I'd be okay with though.

No, Cowher will be Head Coach because the NFL Network sited in 2009 that "a source" said coaching for the Texans or Bears "would excite" Cowher. Oh and on top of that Bill Simmons of espn.com puts his two cents in and says Cowher or Gruden will be Head Coach here. See? It's settled now.

Remember months ago when "sources told us" Lebron James was going to sign with the Cavs... or Nets? Or when Stephen A. Smith said "I have a source who has told me it was a done deal from the beginning LeBron would be going to Chicago and I have another source that says it is a done deal he is going to the Knicks."

Those sources are saying "done deal".... which tends to hold a little more weight than "would excite". LOL

Could Cowher want to coach here? Could he actually be the next HC? Sure... but I think too many people here are assuming all this is true and that we've got a great chance at it. I don't blame them though, I feel the same way everytime I hear a FA wants to sign here... just to end up signing somewhere else. Most blame Smith/McNair when in realty I don't think we were their #1 landing spot in the first place.

Sorry at this point we are 0-2 for coordinators -> HC change. Give us a proven winner, someone you can't fault for hiring.

If someone comes and delivers a championship to this city prepare for the statue to be raised somewhere..

Ironically he was the first one to have sources tell him that all 3 would wind up in Miami. Obviously it was an option and people speculated on it but Smith was the first one to report it. He later backed off a bit when it looked like Bosh was considering coming here. For the record he is a total ***-hat but its the truth. Also for the record I don't see Cowher coming here, as sweet as it would be.

What the hell kinda defense is a particularly good fit for the Texans right now ..... Anything would be better than this cluster****.

I bet Bob McNair is out wooing the Indiana Hoosier defensive co-coordinators right now. Anyone who gives up 83 points in a game would be a great fit for our D!!!!!

Capers was the head coach for the expansion Panthers. He set an NFL record 7-9 season for an expansion team. The following year he led the Panthers to the NFC Championship game, losing to Green Bay.

Capers was the smart pick for us at the time. A guy proven to build an expansion team from scratch, and who'd had postseason success. But sometimes the "smart" and "obvious" decisions aren't always the best.

In otherwords:

0-1 with hiring head coaches with previous "success"
0-1 with hiring offensive coordinators with previous "success"

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but I got a kick out of this from the espn article linked above.

I keep mentioning the Law of Gus without ever really defining it, so let's do it right now. If Gus Johnson is calling an NFL game, the odds quintuple that (A) the lead will change hands in the fourth quarter; (B) someone will complete a long pass in a big moment that will make Gus' voice hit an octave only dogs can hear; and (C) the game will go into overtime or at least come damned close. It seems impossible that the mere presence of an announcer would alter the course of the game, but here's my theory: I think God sits in his Man Cave on Sundays and says, "Which game is that Gus Johnson calling? I get a kick out of that guy. I think I'll make his game exciting and see if he completely loses his mind."

That is so true, and yesterday bore that out. I actually love listening to Gus. I like a guy with some enthsiasm, and he was about to come unhinged a couple of times.

 I agree, Porky. Love me some Gus

For our first few years in the league I thought that Gus and Steve were only allowed to call Texans games.

I don't mind trying another coordinator...as long as they don't get as long a leash this time. Kubiak should have never gotten an extension.

Do you have anything to support this? Not attacking just interested in Cowher.

The NFLnetwork reporter mentioned that Cowher was interested in the Houston job just last week when the network was talking about Kubiak being on the hotseat.

No I do not remember the reporters name.

Cowher is a good coach .... But Im just not so sure I could stand to see a Pittsburgh Steeler on the Texans sideline running the show.

I hate the Steelers damn near as much as I hate Buck Fud.

You pretty much have to give a coordinator a somewhat long leash. There is a definite learning curve to transitioning into becoming a head coach. There will be bumps and brusies.

That's why I say: No more coordinators.

Ryan is a decent enough coordinator but he is a circus, and this team needs a strong personality not a circus.

The Raiders let Ryans go because he had become a disruption to the organization, the Raiders, get that Al Davis thought Ryans was bad for an organization. I get that.

I was trying to get us to go for Rex Ryan when we hired Kubiak. We missed our window.

this is how I feel, except replace Buck Fud with Peyton and crew.

Pass on Rob Ryan. Don't forget all the undisciplined defenses he's coached in the past - last year's Browns and many with the Raiders. His defenses have been as much of a joke and as much of a mess before as ours is now so no thanks.

Actually, Stephen A. Smith predicted the big three in Miami before anybody. You must be thinking of Chris Broussard.

I don't see Coach Chin coming here but crazier things have happened. It would be nice to have a defense that kicks ass and causes havoc.

Jason La Canfora last Wednesday night on NFL Network. I don't know how much validity he has about the story, but his update about the Texans was interesting, if for nothing else than the continuous hum of one chin as it pertains to our football team. He said that McNair gave Kubiak the "vote of confidence", but his fate would be determined by making the playoffs or not. And he specifically mentioned that Cowher is interested in the Houston HC position. Where there's smoke?

John Fox is likely to be fired this year, if that happens, Cowher (IF he comes back) goes to Carolina.

I would be just fine with giving Ryan a chance. He's bring the attitude and grit that this team needs and it would also put the Texans on a National stage a lot more. I want a coach like that. Those are the kinds of coaches I like that get their players hyped up and the fans hyped up. I'm tired of the "lets hold hands and all clap for one another" style of coaching that we've had with Capers, Kubiak, and Mack Brown at Texas. Get a HC in here that can bring in some grit.

Why on earth would a coach with Cowher's credentials take over a team that devoid of talent when he could have his choice of teams .... many with loads of talent which is underperforming.

Again , Im just not so sure I could stomach Cowher coaching the Texans ....

Cowher is a possibility IMHO bc of his wife's death. I've seen it with friends, all they have then is their work, and I don't mean it morbidly but maybe he would handle the empty house easier by throwing himself into coaching. Either way I hope him the best.

Garrett has been groomed by Jones and Wade was widely thought of as an interim coach until Garrett had more experience. Now he has it and there is no way he leaves Dallas. Jones will throw crazy money at him, hell he already has, he's one of the highest paid O coordinators ever!

Gruden and Dungy are a no chance. Not to mention, I want a coach who may come in here for 10 years. Dungy doesn't have that left. And Gruden....have you seen him on MNF?!?! He's actually happy!!! When else have you seen Gruden smile and laugh ever? His blood pressure can't take coaching again, so don't count on it.

Rob Ryan makes sense. He's done something with nothing. The Jets DC is working with an all Madden defense, but Rob pushes every player to the breaking point on the field. He's the perfect coach to p. Cushing Ryan's Jackson and Mario flourish.

Sorry for rambling. Come on Rob Ryan!!!
