The Ol' Fake Injury to stop the clock manuever

Watch the two players from SFA go down at precisely the same time as A&M is trying to run a hurry up offense. You will know exactly when the signal from the sidelines comes in calling for the player(s) to have a leg cramp.

Tulsa and SMU run this kind of crap all the time against UH.

Sooner or later, the NCAA is going to have to make a new rule about faking injuries.

That to me right there is cheating. Pass interference, holding, etc aren't cheating but they are definitely against the rules, they're penalties and part of the game. Faking injuries to stop the clock is flat out cheating. This sort of thing should be looked at by the NCAA and have repercussions.

Yep! Totally agree!

It was pretty blatent in the first half. In the 2nd half, when they were getting blown out (and you'd think the real cramps would actually set it) it magically stopped.

It's pretty bush league. I know it's an FCS team vs a BCS team, but they are are supposed to be top 10 in the FCS and they getting paid to take the whipping they did.

Thanks for the laugh, that was funny. It's kinda like when Ghana did this against the US during overtime in the World Cup.

What about when the Texans do it to the Colts on Sunday? Will that be cheating?

That is a very common ploy against Manning and the Colts.

Hell no! That will be a brilliant...err unfortunate timing for our DL to get cramps in the enviromentally controlled Reliant stadium. Damn that bad Gatorade!

If the Texans do it Sunday against the Colts, yes it will cheating and unsportsmanlike. Same is true for the Colts if they try it against us.

Soccer players thinks that's really bad!!

My brother plays for SFA...Will make sure to ask him about faking cramps...

Although he plays on offense so he might not know....

Never seen the Colts do it. But that likely due to the no huddle offense the Colts run and the fake injury ploy is something defenses do to slow the game down and that is not something the Colts defense faces.

Yeah, but no worse than the offense running up to the line of scrimmage without a huddle, and then farting around for 15 or 20 seconds before snapping the ball. The Colts don't do that to run a "hurry up" they do it so the defense can't substitute. So if they are going to "cheat" by faking a hurry up, their opponents can "cheat" to get their legitimate subs in by faking an injury.

Although, anything that makes football more like futball is a bad thing...

Hopefully Pollard knocks the piss out of Peyton "Big-Ass Forehead" Manning so hard the colts have to use a legitimate injury timeout to scrape his monkey ass up off the field!

We don't need to anymore, we've got the umpire to do that for us...

:sarcasm:

But back to the thread, was at the game right behind the SFA bench (student section side) and it was indeed pretty bush league seeing a teammate come up to the one who ran off the field first and giving him a high five and joking around with him when he was supposedly injured.

Apparently my brother played so well during that game (didn't have many carries, but had some really good blocks) the coach called him up in front of the whole team and announced they were putting him on scholarship. Very excited for him. Walked onto the team, got playing time at special teams and LB his freshman year...switched to RB this year, earned a starting position, played so well that he was singled out for his great play and put on scholarship. Damn proud.

This just shows you the gap between Junior College and even the lower echelon of Div 1. Ju Co teams have to resort to this type of stuff to try to compete.

I haven't noticed the Texans doing it to the Colts before, but if you can point to an actual instance where this happened in the 2008 or 2009 games I'll be happy to look it up. Just give me the date and game clock time when it happened, or point to a Youtube video of it.

You should have seen the BCS Conference Texas Tech defenders "cramping up" in their loss to UH last season.

Has nothing to do with the level of talent.

Many defenders fake injuries just because they are tired...That is not something that is league specific or only done when lower level teams face higher level teams.

Very cool. My son blocks for him on the offensive line. :thumbup

I was at the game, but did not have the angle to see these "injuries". It's funny to watch on video, but in the real world of sports, it's a pretty chump move.

Wow, that's pretty cool that two posters have real life connections to SFA football. Now, a question that comes with those connects; is the SFA QB a giant doucher or did he just come off that way in the post-game press conference?

Senior Quarterback Jeremy Moses

"Texas A&M came out slower than we thought they were. There were things that were more open than what we thought we were going to see. We play against our defense every day, to be honest there are smaller windows to throw through against our defense than there was theirs. We just had a couple third downs that we need to convert. Texas A&M came out in the second half fired up."

(On Kyle Field crowd) "After playing in Montana last year this was a cake walk. I'll play here any day of the week, and it wasn't 18 degrees."

(After throwing the interception) "Throwing the ball so many times in the year, that's going to happen. The DB made a great play and there's no way I was going to catch him. That shows the character of our team. We came back and scored a touchdown right after that."

A defense that held his offense to 7 points and under 200 yards until reserves came in during the 4th and allowed ~70 yards in a drive and he's talking like that?! What?! Montana?! Come - on - man!

I live in Nacogdoches and i am on the side lines for most home games, Jeremy has always seemed like a good kid. We all have our bad moments this might have been his.

I didn't get a chance to ask my brother about the "injuries" after I found out his good news...Did you by chance ask your son if he knew anything about it?

I don't think anything is wrong with his comments. That's just how confident football players talk. He didn't talk down about Tx A&M...he just didn't give Texas A&M verbal fell-atio

To be honest my brother said the same thing...He said "They weren't that good"..."we lost the game"...

As an individual player, you may feel like that even though your team as a whole was beaten badly...I wasn't at the game, but I listned to the broadcast and his receivers dropped a lot of balls..Defense held early in the game, but due to the offensive troubles they had too much time on the field and were just dominated by a superior offensive team.

I know that when I was at FAMU, and we played the Gators down in Gainesville I came away with the same impression. I wasn't intimidated by their crowd...I had played in front of lots of big crowds before...Also, I wasn't dominated as an individual player by any means so my impression of the game was probably different than some of my teammates even though we lost 63-7...

I just don't think his comments were that bad...He just didn't kiss their ass or humble himself to them...
