Defense will shine against cowboys !!

newtexan

Waterboy
Texans must play MITCHELL and SHEPPARD more with the ones and in diffrent schemes , these guys fit nicely if used correctly, TEXANS WIN 21-17.

I pray that Sheppard makes the Texans roster. Else, I fear a major meltdown from newtexan.

I like your enthusiasm, but I for one don't feel confident about the defense after last week.

The Saints have a better passing game than the Cowboys, but the Cowboys have a better running game...and our run defense sucked last week.

It's going to be one boring ass game. Since they meet in the regular season, neither team will want to show too much - on either side of the ball.

For that matter, neither team is showing me much as it is now...at least it will be a hell of a tailgate party...The game is just a good tailgate halftime break !!

Isn't your last thread exactly this? Start Mitchell and Sheppard at DT?

I thought I'd seen another thread on this. Also, like in the other thread, Mitchell DID play with the one's. They were rotating everyone on the Dline.

Hmm, maybe that's why they sucked?

This will be a good game for the TEXANS , i really expect to see the defense come alive in this game, i believe the offense is already- game ready.

I don't see why you expect the defense to "come alive" against the #2 offense last year after laying an egg against the #1 offense...I'm mostly worried about the run defense, or lack thereof.

Texans will put on a show for the home crowd, you know they want to win this one even if it doesn't matter. I'll go Texans 34 - Cowboys 20

I'm sure the Saints had fans last year on their message boards expecting the same ol Saints, i truly believe if the Texans beat the Cowboys it will spring-board their confidence and their season.

No. Not in the pre-season.

If they beat the Colts in week 1 it will, and/or beat the Cowboys in week 3. Pre-season games are not going to inspire them to greatness.

Dude,.. a team like the Texans need these type games, yes it's only preseason, but it will have a playoff atmosphere, it's like beating your big bro. in a one on one b-ball game, his mind was on his girl, but it's a win you'll never forget, and from that day on you feel as though you've arrrriiiiivvved !!!!!

Mitchell appears to be a good pass rushing DT. Sheppard may come on. The problem is that the Texans have NO run stopping DT's on the roster. They have no DT who will command double teams and free up Ryans to do his best work. Without good run stopping DT's keeping the oline off Ryans, it is hard for Ryans to be an effective force at and behind the LOS. But hey, I'm glad we spent 1/3 of our draft on TE, WR, & KR......

I say ride Okam and Cody hard, rotate Mitchell and Okoye often, bring the inside LB up to plug the gap, allow Sheppard some DE time, the Texans are not that far away.

Terrible analogy.

If the team actually thinks they have "arrived" after winning a pre-season game, then we are really screwed.

This pre-season game means nothing compared to the Colts week one

it's terrible analogy if you don't have a big brother, all i'm saying is a win right now is good medicine for this Texan team, i played football, and when we beat the states bully in a scrimmage, we felt as though we were state champs, and we went on to have a great season, didn't win the state championship but what a ride, and it all started in that lil ole scrimmage .

The Texans just aren't good enough to "wait 'till game one" to turn
the intensity on. They are a team that needs to bust its ass EVERY
DOWN, of EVERY GAME. Compare them to no one else but themselves,
and you'll see the ugly truth.

They don't want DT's holding up O-linemen...They want DT's that penetrate and DE's that play up field.

DT's that hold up linemen are normally found in read and react type defenses or 3-4's.

There are not many 330lb DT's that play in 4-3 defenses.

The Cowboys are not the Texans "big brother", they aren't even rivals. We only play them once every 4 years, so who gives a sh*t about them, honestly.

The Colts are like our Big Brothers since we have only beat them 1 time out of 16 tries...

In the great state of texas my friend, Dallas is considered the big brother, surely you see my point .

Maybe if you have penis envy for them...I don't see why people hate the Cowboys when we play them once every 4 years, and have never played a Super Bowl against them...that's how you constitute a rival.

I don't care about the Cowboys, I want to beat them, but beating them isn't as important as beating the Colts, who we are competing for a division title with.

How long have you lived in Houston? If you don't mind my asking

I'm not officially in Houston, I live in Cypress, it's in Harris County. I'm about a 45 minute drive from downtown Houston, and I've lived there 16 years

I know Cypress. How long have you followed Houston Football?

I'm looking at the Cowboys rosters and their defensive ends are all over 300lbs. why not have some packages with big MITCH and Malcolm Sheppard rotating with the defensive ends, they both have too much upside to only be used as undersized interior linemen, Mitchell seems to be a roster lock and Sheppard is fighting for a job, owner JERRY JONES is an Arkansas guy and knows about Sheppard's DE days at Arkansas,.. some might ask why Sheppard wasn't drafted by Jones, who knows, but one slip by the Texans and he just might, after Smith and Williams the DE talk is lukewarm at best, Sheppard cut his teeth as a DE an was relentless and disruptive throughout the SEC, simply put, too much talent not to use.

They run a 3-4.

Their DE's are really more like DT's.

Are you Mitchell and Sheppard's agent? Or related to them? Cause your enthusiasm for them is unusual

jus trying to force feed a winning combination to ya, but you want swallow.

Don't you think that if they were all you are saying, and that much better than the others, the Professional coaching staff would be utilizing them more? Do you think you know more than Bill Kollar and Frank Bush?

I'm simply saying they have potential, and the coaches have said this numerous times, its just putting them in the right packages, i don't know more about the players than the coaches because like all the message board members i'm an arm-chair GM,COACH,PLAYER its just i seems to concentrate on certain players more than others, these are my two favorites when they make the roster i'll settle down a lil, but the Texans need both players baddd.

Cool! I can understand that, but if the coaches try to rush them in there, that would be baad!

I dont know which would be worse- Sheppard making the team (and getting a new post every week saying he needs more playing time) or him getting cut (and enduring a couple of threads and posts about how stupid the Texans FO is)?

Mitchell is a lock, newtexan, you dont have to worry about him.

I feel the buzz already trust me Texans are going to bring it tommarow and i think the fans will be there and be LOUD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its the first home game of the season shitz going down !!!!!!!!!!!

Great game all around, i felt this all along, my man Sheppard made the best of his 4 minutes or so, relentless and great hit ,i expect Kubiak to give him a complete half against Tampa if he survives the cut, he's way more active and aggressive than Robinson or Okam.

The Texans one's also dominated Arizona, the Saints game was bad all around for us, but this game will go a long way for the Texans.

I was impressed with the Texans run defense. It started to look like the run D of last year. I was most impressed by Okoye. He was really collapsing the middle on several run plays. And he even had a sack, and an impressive one at that.
