First thought that I had too.
Although, mine had more cussing in my head.
Finally had a chance to ram it down Austin's collective throats and we blew it. I really wish my daughter (so my ex too unfortunately) would move back to Houston so I can get the F-_k out of this little town that thinks it's a big city swinging from VY's jock eternally.

Austin shows both. FOX covers the NFC and CBS covers the AFC. FOX shows every single Cowgirls game. Now CBS has to decide who the city of Austin likes in the AFC and I know that I see far more Titans stickers than Texans. It sucks to be a Texans fan. It sucks even more to be a Texans fan in Austin. I'm just glad I don't live in Dallas. I feel for THOSE Texans fans.

LOL! I live in Dallas south right now and they show nothing, but Cowboys here and this year have shown every Texans game. I do think one of the shock jocks in SA is a d i _ k, as he tried to have the Texans removed from local TV. P-ville for life baby!

As for KEYE, you Texans fans are in luck. Apparently the station got sold last year and now they have no influence over what games they broadcast. The people at CBS decide it, and not the local programming director, apparently.

I've come to decide that a huge part of the reason Austin roots for the Titans rather than just wanting Vince to succeed is because they don't like Houstonians. It's kind of like how Coloradans feel about Texans/Californians, or many Texans feel about Mexicans. I don't know the numbers but I would bet that Houston sends more people to Austin than any other city -- certainly in the top 3. Some "true" Austinites think Houston is a bad place and they have to denigrate anything from there.
No I don't buy that. When it comes to pro sports Austinites are just bandwagoners. If they all hated Houston the Astros wouldn't be the most popular MLB team in town. The typical Austin fan is a Cowboys, Spurs, Astros fan.
Think about it, if the Texans would have drafted VY they would all be talking about how much they love Houston and even have roots there. Austin would just be another Houston suburb and HWY 290 would be all roses and bluebonnets.

Apologies as I was too sweeping in my original post. My point is not that it's the majority of Austin that hates anything Houston, but a vocal group of purists who think Houston just isn't weird enough. Meanwhile the Texans fan base will continue to grow and the "original" (ie their parents moved there from Houston) Austinites' voices will shrink. Thousands will continue to migrate from Houston to Round Rock every year.
I bet if the Texans drafted Young all we would hear from them is how it's everyone else but Vince's fault that the Texans keep losing, and that it's because Kubiak won't let Vince be Vince. Think David Carr apologists mixed with unreal's Slaton love. And they'd boycott until Vince went to a REAL team or Houston hired a new coach.
I do kind of wonder what's going to happen to the Stros base in Austin when the Rangers get Round Rock though.

I don't buy it either, but then when I think about it we are only speaking to our experiences and our different circles of friends' experience. I totally agree on the Cowboys, Spurs and Astros as the working profile of a majority of native Austinites.
There are a lot of Houstonians in Austin, when I moved back to Austin I befriended a circle from Clear Lake and they were fans of the Oliers and are fans of UT, Texans and VY. No Titans love at all.
To provide my own take, based only on feel, is that the chatter is coming from the 24-28 aged male, displaced from Houston, who grew up with a dying or no Houston pro team, and a city void of championships for their formative years. They found a local boy doing good on the national stage who has a flair for the dramatic and is constantly finding himself on the winning side.
Yes, but at least they'd all be Texan fans.

I think the die hard Express fans will remain loyal whatver organization owns them. As far as the casual Austin baseball fan, I think they remain loyal to the 'Stros for the very reason you give. They're bandwagoners. While the Astros have never won a WS, the Rangers have only won one game in the postseason, but we'll see. That's JMO.

Earl and VY have done Austin well, and they would probably say like wise. Colt is a nice story, but even if Colt wins a Championship VY will be more beloved in my opinion.

Apparantly a ton of fans only care about vy in the NFL, Nathan Vasher, Jammer, C Benson, Okam, Studdard, Finley, and all the other Horns in the NFL are not worth following or at least worth the effort to demand to see and overule the home turf of the local NFL franchise. I don't get it, whatsoever, I am huge Longhorn fan, and college football fan in general but I do prefer NFL football (the best of the best) and the Texans come first over everyone, period. Hell, I can't stand USC among other schools, but I love Brian Cushing and I respect their program. The minute you put on a Texans jersey you have my unwavering support.
I like your question though gwallaia, I suspect there would be some support but not near the following vy gets for some reason. FTR, I think Colt has the tools to make a good NFL qb.

Umm no they would be Vince fans. They would be boycotting games and demanding Vince go elsewhere.
AFA Colt vs Vince I think some of it has to do with Colt coming so soon after. Vince was on a team that won the first title in 30 years for a school whose fans brag about their history more than Dallas fans do.
I went to UT myself and lived in Austin for 6 years. Several of my best friends came from San Marcos. One is the exact profile mentioned (Cowboys/Spurs/Stros). The other was all Houston, he was an Oiler fan and followed them to Tennessee. His reasoning is "I bleed Columbia Blue." He still roots for the Texans though -- just not against Tennessee.
I convinced both of them that Vince was the second coming when he committed. I don't detest Vince Young. I respect the argument that he does more than just amass gaudy passing yards. He forces linebackers to stay in limbo. They cannot commit because you have to respect his legs and arm both. With a good RB he is unbelievably dangerous. I want Vince to succeed, in every game but two.
What's odd to me is that after having to convince Austin fans that Vince was capable (they thought he was another Chris Simms hype. They were still all about the Major), I now have to convince them that he didn't singlehandedly deliver Texas its first title of our lifetimes.

I really do understand preferring college football. I get only watching the NFL to see how guys you rooted for in college do in the pros. I did it myself when the NFL robbed us. The NFL is basically the mob. They extort cities for "protection" and if you don't pay, you lose your team. It's despicable, but not unusual. Think what you will about UT or A&M, they will always be in Austin and College Station.
What I don't understand is abandoning every other player on the 2005 Texas Longhorns team, save one. One man didn't win a national championship. 80 did. Some play in Tennessee, some in Houston, some in Cincy. Now, I want Ced Benson to do well. I like when former Longhorns succeed. Sue me. What I won't do however is buy a new jersey every time Benson switches teams. I won't petition my TV station to only show the games from teams he plays for.
What is Austin going to do if Colt wins the National Title and gets drafted by Washington? Are they going to petition Fox 7 to drop Dallas and only show Redskin games? Or does only one player in the history of a program that spans more than a century merit this type of hero worship?

Dan, you forgot the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, the Chargers, Bears, Chefs, and, and..... All of those teams have players that were an integral part of the National Championship.
Unless of course that piece of clothing is Vince Young's jock strap.
I dont get why Texans fans keep bringing this up. Did any of the other players in the NFL now have the same impact as Vince in the Rose Bowl? the 2005 season?
Vince changed the culture of Texas football. He made Mack start listening to 50 cent and ended the ass whippings by OU.
Before Vince, Texas was good, but not great. He truly took the program to the next level.
Austin is a college town, and as the ratings clearly show, prefers to watch Vince play. I dont know why you guys just dont accept this. Should a local station be forced to show a game that will draw much less ratings solely because a team from 150 miles away is playing?
I could definitely understand KEYE airing Texans games if they consistently outdrew the Vince games, but that is not the case.

We can root on individuals all we want, but football is a team sport and the Texans are OUR team, how come guys like you can't comprehend THAT fact? The team comes before any one single individual, plain and simple.
I absolutely comprehend that. The majority of people in the state of Texas and most of Austin feel the same way when rooting for the Cowboys.
It's the Texan fans that dont see the other side. Nobody would blame FOX7 if they showed the Cowboys over the Titans (which they do), because there are more people that would watch the Cowboys game.

FOX has to show NFC teams per the agreement with the NFL. When a visiting team from the AFC plays on an NFC teams turf, the AFC team gets to decide if they do CBS or FOX.
Flip that around for CBS. They have an agreement to carry all AFC games. If the visiting team to and AFC team is from the NFC, the game may be on FOX instead.
So, there is no way that the Possum Squallor Hootinanies from Bumblescum Mountain could solely be on FOX.
Now, if Rudy got traded to an NFC team, then you and the cowboy fans could duke it out.......much to my enjoyment.
Besides, how do you not realize what an absolute joke college ball is? No playoffs? As far as I'm concerned all national championship teams are fraudulent when there are 2 or 3 other undefeated teams that did not even get a chance. That's some fairy assed $hit right there. If any college team thinks they are that good, they ought to be playing "REAL" teams every week and not poof ass games like UT vs. Saint Mary and the Blind U.
That's why the NFL will ALWAYS outrank college both in ratings, amount of fans, money, competition level, you name it.
Here's the cut and dry reason why the Texans should ALWAYS be on TV here in Austin. Austin is a small little piss ant town in the grand scheme of things and a ton of the population here is from Houston. We are in Texas. We are 150 mile from Houston. As an Austinite, you have no claim to pro sports, and you never will....it's as simple as that. So, no one here will tell you what college ball should be on TV. Just enjoy it for the 12 or 13 weeks you get it. Then on Sundays, when the big boys play, go play disc golf, jog around town lake, hit magnolia cafe, ride your 20 speed bike on the feeder of MoPac near William Cannon because you think your Lance Armstrong, stop by half price books for any free hippie propaganda, maybe stop by gas pipe on your way home and leave the NFL teams to us ok?

I really don't know so much about pro teams having more fans than college teams. There are some massive college stadiums and for the most part they are filled to the rafters every game. Michigan I think regularly has attendance close to 100K. Texas is what 80 or 90K per game? Tennessee has a huge stadium too.

Now that I've opened the subject it is kind of weird to me how the college stadiums can be so large and they're just jammed while the NFL stadiums are built so much smaller.

Not really. Many many many many many many many seats inside the stadium are free for students. They pack 'em in with student sections which can be and usually are quite large. Football's a big draw for generating school spirit.
I think that Reliant Stadium is significantly larger than Darryl Royal Stadium yet Royal holds more than Reliant. That's because Royal and most college stadiums have bench seats. Bench seats also allow stadiums to pack in more people per square inch. NFL stadiums generally have bucket seats to go along with cup holders and whatnot.
NFL has blackout rules. The bigger the stadium, the less likely the game will be sold out and the less likely it will be televised within a 90 mile radius. They don't want them too big.
