Apparently the Houston Texans are an afterthought to the national sports media. Many sports casters act as if any team playing the Texans is garaunteed a win and as if each Texan victory is either a fluke or proof that the other team simply wasn't doing their job. Andre Johnson gets his due, but the rest of the men on the team receive little regard. The Texans have their best record in franchise history, but the national media is treating them like a bastard step son at a family reunion. When will the Texans get some respect?
 
Probably once we have a winning season or make the playoffs.

If the Browns were 5-3 this year, no one would care either.

We were the sleeper pick for the playoffs by many in the media, thats plenty of attention for me

Who cares? I would rather no one know about us and take us for granted. Makes the wins that much easier.

Respect is earned...and up until now, we haven't earned it. Don't worry, we will get our respect.
 
Don't expect the respect after beating the Bills. Don't be fooled by their 3-5 record. They are terrible, and their coach has NO business being in the NFL. This sums Juaron up to me. Yesterday, it's 24-10 with 8 minutes left. On first down, they run a 3 yard off tackle run, then a draw play for 4 yards, neither in a no-huddle. Yeah, he sure coaches players on a sense of urgency and a desire to win the game.

Beat the Colts on Sunday and believe me, the bandwagon will officially form.

Dread, you should be way use to it by now. Lest I remind you of the Rockets and SI. Do I need to mention that OJ's slow speed chase was more important than the Rockets Finals game? :kingkong:
 
Doesn't bother me much either... It doesn't effect the way I live and teams I root for. The writers, or tv personalities can say whatever they want, why would it bother me that they disrespect our teams.. Now if it was a family member, yeah, but local teams... they can have their thoughts !

I've actually seen them get some positive coverage

But for a network to be gaga about the Texans it will have to be about beating a top team and making a run towards the playoffs. The 49ers and Bills don't excite anyone. To people here they are good wins because all wins are good. To the national media they are games they should win or games that don't have an excitement factor. The Colts game should change that.

NBC Football Night in America really ticked me off yesterday. They showed every play the Bills made (like 4 or 5 plays) and then just showed one play the Texans made (the first Moats TD). You would have thought the Bills won the game. All they talked about was the Bills and they didn't even show the Cushing interception or the Jacoby return which were the 2 best plays of the game.

I can't stand the east coast bias and when it extends to crap cities like Buffalo, it really sets me off.

i'm kidding, but come on, what respect do you deserve, really? besides, the media picked Houston as the annual Underdog Darlings To Make the Playoffs this preseason. there's 32 teams in the NFL, it's tough to spread the love evenly, especially when you have Favre-mania going on the same weekend.

if you beat the Colts, you'll be 6-3 and and have taken down a 7-0 team on the road. THEN you'll start getting talk as "one of the best teams in the NFL." but a win over the Bills never inspires much hype or press.

Yeah, they did it with the Saints game two years ago. We killed them, they showed their highlights, and then the score. Remember when the Rockets blew out the Trail Blazers yast year. They showed all their shots, like 10 of them, then said "The Rockets win by 20"
 
If you listen to Sirius NFL Radio, which is the best channel on radio bar none, they give the Texans ton of respect. Randy Cross, Pat Kirwin are always giving the Texans their Due. But then again, for the most part, they have intelligent hosts and callers on the channel.

networks care about money. they don't care about sectioning off large markets for a silly bias reason. i don't know what plays were and weren't shown, but the Bills/Texans is not a marquee game by any means, so they're not going to really break the game down, so i'm guessing they showed the Byrd interceptions and the Terrell Owens touchdown, both bigger "stories" to a national audience than Ryan Moats.

there's plenty of reason to criticize that awful show, but they're not "biased" against Houston.

No. We probably will only hear how poorly the Colts played and that they lost the game. Just like after we beat the Bengals. Not how we played to win but how badly they played to lose.

It just kinda peeved me a bit. I can understand if it was the Giants or the Patriots or Favremania, but we are talking about Buffalo. 3-5 Buffalo with a coach that is circling the drain. With no solution at QB for the future, yet you would have thought they won the damn game.

so a 29yard reverse and 2 picks from the team that got blown out are a bigger story than the plays that actually won the game? its just fishy.

they shouldn't have shown any Buffalo highlight other than the Owens reverse. which Owens did look good on. he still has the jets and was a well executed play worthy of highlight win or lose. Cushing's pick should be shown, a play by Jacoby, lowlight of Daniels amidst talk of picks and fumbles, Moats late game domination. final score, houston wins and is in the playoff race while Buffalo loses and Jauron may be on hotseat.

its not asking for too much. just some balance.

Until the Texans do something besides going .500 for the season, we'll not be taken seriously. It's just part of it.

again, blame the current sports highlight trend by the media, which is to just show big plays and big stories, not anything to do with the game itself. it's why Belichick's handshakes are always featured.

especially NBC's awful awful show, which is just a bunch of snarky buffoons playing clips and patting themselves on the back for their terrible jokes.

although i do think Byrd's interceptions should've been shown regardless.

I'm a Houstonian. I already KNOW Houston teams NEVER get respect from the national scene. You can put asterisks by the Rockets championships all you want, it doesn't change the fact that they were back-to-back champions, in the record books forever.

I don't give a crap what some so-called "expert" has to say, good (rare) or bad. It doesn't matter and it doesn't change anything.

I don't need a national blowhard to say something nice about my team to what....make me feel good or something? I'm able to see with my own eyes what I like and don't like about MY team. I just don't care what others think. In Houston it's old and tired anyway.

and if you talked to fans in other markets they'd say the exact same thing. there are plenty of Dolphins fans who think ESPN just HATES them, no matter WHAT you say. you have to try and look at it from an unbiased, neutral perspective.
 
ESPN hates everyone but the Cowgirls, and anyone NOT named, Manning, Farve, Brady, Brees or Reggie Bust-who for some reason still has highlights always on.
 
Ryan Moats got number five on NFLN's 'Primetime' segment this week...

And they've been talking about how bad the OD injury is a lot...

And we always get some love from Jamie Dukes. I don't know...I think we get about the right amount of attention for what we've achieved so far.

VUGG the Bills! I'm talking about in general. No one expects the national media to put the Texans on a pedistle the way they do the Cowboys even when they have a losing season or Notre Dame in the same circumstances, but they act as if a win AGAINST the Texans is a given. Not giving someone their due isn't disrespect, but intentionally treating them as the punch line to an ongoing joke...IS!

Houstonians have a bad case of martyr syndrome. I think we get the right amount of respect for a relatively small market.

The Texans are the 23rd most popular franchise, and we somehow want to be featured all the time? ESPN is trying to be a successful sports tv show. You dont get good ratings by featuring segments on the least popular teams.

Love them or hate them, the Bills have TO and a rookie who just entered the history books with 2 picks in 3 straight games. Both of those are more "star power" worthy than a no name running back going for 100+ on the leagues worst rush defense.

i'm not sure why people expect SportsCenter/NBC/any other sensationalism sports highlight show to follow a formula of "the team that won deserves more highlights" for this nonsense...how is that to their advantage? they want to show things that they think their viewers want to see, or what fares well for their commentators to comment on.

Thats what attracts viewers though. ESPN is a business, and a business in a capatalistic society at that. Their goal is to maximize shareholder wealth. Showing texans = less commercials than showing TO. The blame is on the audience, not the show.

It's also what turns a lot of sports junkies off too. That's why you have so much dissent coming from this board. I personally don't care about it, because I figured it out a long, long time ago.
 
I don't think it is disrespect... Them bad mouthing us all the time would be, omitting the Texans and other Houston teams is not disrespect.. And if that really bothers you, really..... then you need to get outside more and enjoy the city and get away from the TV.. So what, really, so what, as TB said, he's figured it out....

Well said hobie!There are 32 teams. The Texans are doing better than usual but are still 5-3 and just played the 49ers and the Bills. I've seen them get "nice" coverage but they aren't supposed to lead off SportsCenter and be this big national story just because they are actually winning winnable games and are doing what they were predicted to do. Here, where people live and die by them finally getting over the hump or having a winning season, it is a big deal because you are consumed by the Texans. In the nation they are one of 32 teams and they have some players like AJ that garner news. It isn't that big of a deal. Truthfully, the media is so gung ho on covering the "hot topic" that when they do get their spotlight it is going to be full bore and non-stop. I kind of like the under the radar feel I get from them and even my Cowboys right now.

I hear what you're saying Dread-Head and I agree with much of it, but by no means not all.
First you have to understand that the national media in general does not like Houston. With it's no-zoning, fossil-fuels past and present it is really the consummate, the leading proponent of free-market, capitalistic economics among metros of the country bar none and that is the antithesis of the PC mentality of national media. After all the sports media of this country is also based in Manhatten and California just like the general news media. The truth is the only major city that probably gets worse press than Houston is Detroit.
On the other hand the national sports media has tried many times, many years to make the Houston Texans the preseason favorite to be a playoff team, and the Texans repeatedly have failed to live up to those expectations. Just this year there was the usual talk about this being the year for the Texans before the season started, then we bombed in the season opener vs the Jets and their rook QB.
I think once we finally succeed and get into postseason we will get the coverage we think we deserve.

Well, kasto, your team got their fair share of media coverage this weekend, thanks to Ginn! lol They made the coverage of his returns nauseating, to tell the truth. REPEAT, REPEAT, REPEAT!! To the media he's headed to the trash dump one week and the hall of fame the next! Between him and the Brett Farve show, I got a headache!!:hairpull: Don't get me wrong, I like Miami, and I'm happy they kicked some Jets butt!!

I was sitting in my hotel room Sunday night, watching Sportcenter, and they were talking about the TOP Qbs this year. They named Farve, Manning, Brees, Brady, Sanchez, and Falco, and NOT ONCE mentioned Schaub! I don't usually let the media get to me, and I could care less about their opinions, SOMETIMES, but, for some reason this really pissed me off! Give credit where credit is due, and Matt deserves some credit for what he has done with our team this year. JMO!!
 
Speaking of disrespect, they just previewed the review of our game against the Bills before going into break, on NFL Primetime.
