Eager Titans ready to bounce back vs. Houston

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - The Tennessee Titans had a rare couple of days off to stew over their season-opening overtime loss.

It made for a long weekend.

Not the nice weather in Nashville or the time off to make a quick trip out of town helped ease the blow of the Titans' 13-10 loss to Pittsburgh in OT on Thursday. No, the bad taste lingered until the team hit the field Monday for a light workout and officially started focusing on the Houston Texans.

"It was a tough weekend," receiver Justin Gage said.

Gage called it a good learning experience for the entire team after a lengthy list of mistakes in the opener. It also offered a nice chance to heal up.

"But as far as just getting that bad taste out of your mouth, you have to sit back and linger and watch all the other games played and pretty much wait a couple days before you get back on the field.

"All our focus is on winning the game. It's not on losing the game," Fisher said. "Our attention is to play better than we played last week. If we can do that, we'll have a good chance to win."

Fisher did admit to a sense of urgency because Sunday's opponent is a division rival. He said he knows the Texans also will be frustrated after a 24-7 loss to the New York Jets.

"They're really no different than we are. Everyone wants to get off to a fast start," Fisher said.

Tennessee leads the all-time series with the team that replaced it in Houston 11-3 and have lost only once on the Titans' home field.

But the Texans pulled out a 13-12 win last Dec. 14 that delayed the Titans from clinching home-field advantage through the playoffs by a week. Tennessee hasn't lost two straight to Houston since the 2004 season when the Texans swept a team that finished 5-11.

Gage said that loss does stick in the Titans' heads.

"Being a division game or a rival team, anytime you lose those games it hurts," he said. "Knowing this is our first chance since then to actually get to play those guys and get a little revenge you can call it.

The Titans' offense should get a few players back up to speed to help finish off drives that ended by either turnover or penalties or botched field goals in Pittsburgh. Fisher said Nate Washington, who played 26 snaps against Pittsburgh, could play 50 or 60 against Houston. Cook, who led the team in yards receiving in the preseason, also could be back along with Scaife.

"It'll be much more dynamic," Gage said.

I'm hoping the Texans can bounce back and are able to throw the ball against the Titans like the Steelers did but I think Ryan may have given the blueprint to the rest of the league on how to beat this team. I'm not too optimistic on us picking up a "W" in week 2.

An eager Titans team will wipe the floor with the team we saw on Sunday. The Texans are in trouble, unfortunately.

We usually play them pretty close, if I had to guess I would say we come out on the short end of the stick again in a decent game. Obviously if we play like we did yesterday it will be a massacre.

I want to see us at least compete. Give me something to cheer about. Another embarrassment and it's gonna get down right nasty.

This one is on Kubiak. Hopfully he spends this week getting the Texans ready to win and not polishing the sword he plans to fall on.

I doubt Fisher will let the Tacks overlook us, The real players on this team should be angry and ready for smashmouth football.

Plus, we should have Walter, Wilson and Reeves back. And god willing Caldwell will be under center cause some things just ain't gonna change in a week.

Reeves will be back and will help us negate Nate Washington's speed. Hopefully Eugene Wilson will be back too because Ferguson got lit up.

They won't overlook us. Fisher - UNLIKE KUBIAK - always has his team prepared and ready to go from the very first game to the last.

I hope Grossman is ready to go with our offense because even w/o Haynesworth they are still a very physical team and Ben Taub Schaub could end up hurt again.

Isn't it funny that we played the Jets and the Titans in the first two games?

Wasn't "Titans" the original name of the Jets? Yes it was (see here).

It's like we can't escape it.

:tinfoil:

The Titans looked good against a really good football team. We looked pathetic. Something has got to change the mentality of this team. Good is not good enough.

Fisher overlook anything? No way.

This just doesn't bode well for the Texans.

Titans lost a heartbreaker in OT against defending world champs and we looked like a lost highschool team against a good 9-7 team last year. They would've made the playoffs had Brett not imploded down the stretch.

I just hope to see signs of life this week in practice, hell I'd love to see an upset team overall in any presser now.

Maybe Kubes can take the Texans over to Cullen Blvd. this week, and let the Texans practice against a team with some sack and some heart.

Well, at least there will be an immediate sword (or tack) in proximity for Kubiak to fall on, if need be, after the game proclaiming "just didn't execute"... I mean.... "it's all on me".

barely a week goes by when Inbred fans don't have a thread going about Fisher. many say he's too conservative and plays not to lose, rather than play to win. the Fisher bashing rally takes off when they make the playoffs, so Fisher ain't perfect.

SERIOUSLY! I was just thinking, even though the kids on the COOGS squad would get crushed in a game against any NFL team physically (well, except maybe the Texans), at least they would play balls out and show some emotion. At this point, aside from Andre Johnson, Leach, Mario, Ryans and Cushing, I would rather watch that whole coogs team suit up for the Texans and support that more even in defeat than the crapfest I saw Sunday!

C'mon Texans...get it together! I know it was "just one game" (GOD HOW OLD IS THAT TUNE?!?!?!), but a playoff hopeful team does not show up looking like that week 1 dangit!

Anyone see the Raiders game last night? Yeah, I'm thinking that may not be a cupcake game. See the Bills come o' so close to winning IN New Englands house? Did you see ANY of the highlights from ANY of the other NFL games week 1? Unless I missed some highlights, the Texans, at least for week 1, looked like the worst team in the league.

C'mon Texans...prove me right in all my trash talk to cowgirl fans in the offseason! :doot:

Looking forward to a good game this week, but I think you're in for a long one. I don't think it's really up for debate that we looked like the better team this past weekend. I only hope that we show up again to get ourselves back even.

I know there are some Titans that have been looking forward to a rematch after last year's loss. I don't expect it to happen again. Good luck, see you in Nashville this weekend.

I honestly don't understand why They just don't lock robinson on the #1, reeves or bennett on the #2, put 2 safeties on the hashes and snatch blitz. I don't think any receiver with the titans can get off press. After a 3 count, collins will just throw the ball out of bounds.

That's all fine and dandy, but what if our secondary is too SOFT to press the WRs?

I think the Titans win this game for sure.

There is a very real chance this team could be 1-3 before playing the next four out of five games on the road. If Kubiac doesn't gets this teams heads out of their collective asses, it's going to be a very long season.

Agreed. The Titans are once again another really bad match up for the Texans just like the Jets were. The Texans will most likely get man handled up front on both sides of the ball. I told people that losing Haynesworth wasn't going to hurt the Titans that much and it didn't seem to against the Steelers. The Titans have a great secondary as well.

I'm sure that Chris Johnson will have a really nice game against the Texans and Collins isn't quite as bad as people think. THe Titans just came off of a game where they really played pretty well and let it slip away from them from the defending SB champions. They're going to be really hungry for a win, and with Kubiak here I don't think we'll be quite as hungry.

Amazing that you still think that. This was hardly the case last year and there are more weapons available this season. There is no AJ, Fitz, Wayne, Moss or TO but there are very solid options for an offense that relies on the run. I would definitely say more than sufficient.

Where were you in 07 when one of those got off the ball and beat Dunta Robinson - by catching a perfect pass from Collins - to set them up for the winning FG?

and they have better WRs now than they did then.

Why can't it be that OUR team is the one angry, spitting mad ready to put knuckles to mouth when they go rolling into titanland because of the loss last week?

OH YEAH

Because the Texans aren't the team known for being physical to downright dirty. I'll be watching a game because...well I just can't look away from trainwrecks but damn, there is no way we don't end up with an "L" and some additions to the IR list.

Rep your way.
