Former UNLV senior cornerback CHARLES EALY (#20) has officially petitioned the NFL for entry into next month's Supplemental Draft... his paper work and transcripts had been turned into the NFL office for final review, and official approval came back earlier this morning between 10-11AM (PCT)... originally recruited as a wide receiver by Fresno State out of high school, he made the transition to cornerback in junior college, and then grabbed a starting position last spring with the Rebels... played in ten games, as a junior, recording 31 tackles, one pass breakup and one forced fumble... he ran between 4.45 and 4.47 in the 40... which was recorded on a grass surface at Central Oklahoma earlier this spring, which was attended by two NFL teams... had intended to transfer to the Division II program, but could not get academically cleared in time to be eligible for the fall... has also done between 15-18 reps of 225 pounds... his official arm and hand measurements were not available, but he wears XX gloves... has been measured at between 5106 and 5110, 202 to 212 pounds; was 5106, 212 pounds at the spring workout... very good upper body build for his size, resembles more of a former RB body type than wide receiver... pretty flexible; has been as high as 212 pounds, but will likely settle in around the 200-pound mark for this workout... his top games from last season included BYU, Tennessee, Wisconsin and Iowa State... shutdown the opposing receivers versus both Tennessee and Wisconsin, so teams started to throw away from him... has played mostly on the field side... works best as a bump and run defender and shows fine aggressiveness... his struggles were often associated with the academic side of college life... "(I) would always focus on football, not really enough into the class work side of things", said Ealy, as part of a 20-minute interview conducted last evening... despite his academic issues at UNLV, he did record a 24 on the Wonderlic in his first attempt... he was late for a team bus, which was scheduled to leave for the Colorado State (November 13th) contest, as he overslept, but there is no other record of any off-field issues with him... "(I) was always thinking a lot about how I was doing or getting behind with my studies... it would sometimes carry over to my work outs... so now (mentally) I am getting ready for all the physical work that lies ahead of me and becoming straight by not having any outside issues", as Ealy has been working out in the Los Angeles area with a trainer and several current NFL players... gave straight forward answers to any/all tough questions... takes criticism well and takes responsibility for his actions and lack of progress in the class room... he intends to hold a "Pro Day" workout on Friday, JULY 8th, starting at 1PM in the Los Angeles area, so that scouts/coaches attending the morning workout for USC defensive tackle Manuel Wright, can easily attend his workout... those who need him to complete paper work or interviews can arrange those for the days leading up to that event... he will also have results of a full physical/medical examination available at that time, as well... please contact his agent for more information, including time, date and location of his workout.
