Prepubescent Warren Sapp not a bust?

Okoye bouncing back

Coach Gary Kubiak credits Texans defensive tackle Amobi Okoye with helping improve the team over the past few weeks. He missed two starts in November with a high ankle sprain, but has played through the injury the past three games.

“First off, he’s not 100 percent,” coach Gary Kubiak said. “He’s been playing hurt for us the last few weeks. We missed some time with him. He’s been getting better. He can play better than he’s been playing, and I think he will as we finish this season. But, just getting him back in some of the things we’re doing I think has helped us out.”

Okoye’s numbers aren’t close to his totals from last season. He had 32 tackles and 5.5 sacks as a rookie. This year, he has 16 tackles and no sacks.

But the Texans are limiting his snaps each week to 35 in hopes of getting him at his highest level when he is on the field.

“I think we would have all liked to have seen him take a bigger step forward in year two, but you can’t do anything about a high ankle sprain, and there’s still a lot of football left here to play,” Kubiak said. “We’re expecting him to be a big part of us playing better these last three weeks.”

I think we'll have a decent idea if Okoye will be a bust or not by this time next year. It will be year three and he will have to start producing by then.

What is his rookie contract till? I bet we see him for as long as that and if he continues like he did this year then he needs a major paycut to stay here.

Travis Johnson's contract is up this season right? If it is, he can kick rocks too......we need to either sign a BIG DT in FA or draft one.

High ankle sprain?

Sounds convenient. Anyone hear of him being hurt until now?

Still, just due to the him getting 5 sacks last year and showing flashes, indicates the talent is there. So no, not a bust . . . yet.

Now, Travis Johnson, that's another story.

Nope - he signed a 5 year deal. He's a $2.2 Million salary cap hit next year - approx. $1.2 Million of which is bonus allocation.

Yeah - he missed the Baltimore game and the second Indy game with it, and was listed on the injury report up until last week.

Well then why even think of calling him a bust then if it's known that he's been playing hurt??

Nevermind. I already know the answer to that one.

Same reason people were starting to call Mario a bust after he only got 5 sacks (or whatever it was) playing on a torn plantar fascia.

I agree. He was decent as a rookie, hit a wall and looked stunned by it ever since. He hasn't played well this year, certainly hasn't matched his first effort but still needs some time to put it together. I hope he does because at least one of the 1st Rd. DT's need to develop into impact players for this defense to take off...or at least become stable enough to support our great offense into a playoff berth and beyond.

Think of Mario with support...:kingkong:

He is signed through 2010.

I like TJ. He's been getting better the past two years. He's not as good as DelJuan Robinson, but I think he does well.

i also think TJ has gottin better still to think that we had derrick johnson in our hands and then good old casserly traded down... i still shed a tear when i think back to that day....

No Eric Winston without that trade down and I don't think I would be willing to part with our best offensive linemen for Johnson.

Is DelJuan Robinson big enough to be a NT? He has been playing terrific today against a stout Titans line... I think he has two or three tackles behind the LOS on CJ.

AO could easily be an athlete that peaks at 19 or 20.

Case in point: those top high school prospects no one hears from in college

Taking him ahead of Willis, Beason, and Revis just hurts

Smith is finally letting him use his speed to rush the passer & letting Deljuan robinson/TJ be that run plug....
