Okoye bouncing back
Coach Gary Kubiak credits Texans defensive tackle Amobi Okoye with helping improve the team over the past few weeks. He missed two starts in November with a high ankle sprain, but has played through the injury the past three games.
First off, hes not 100 percent, coach Gary Kubiak said. Hes been playing hurt for us the last few weeks. We missed some time with him. Hes been getting better. He can play better than hes been playing, and I think he will as we finish this season. But, just getting him back in some of the things were doing I think has helped us out.
Okoyes numbers arent close to his totals from last season. He had 32 tackles and 5.5 sacks as a rookie. This year, he has 16 tackles and no sacks.
But the Texans are limiting his snaps each week to 35 in hopes of getting him at his highest level when he is on the field.
I think we would have all liked to have seen him take a bigger step forward in year two, but you cant do anything about a high ankle sprain, and theres still a lot of football left here to play, Kubiak said. Were expecting him to be a big part of us playing better these last three weeks.
