Remember that rookie qb from Harvard?

I know, I know... We have had a rough time this year as fans. Mainly from our homefield chokefest when the Colts came to town.

But remember in November 2005 when we played the St. Louis Rams at our house? It was the origin for our Texans' late game giveaways.

Jaime Martin was the starting qb for the Rams that day and was knocked out of the game. Then strolled in a 7th round rookie qb out of Harvard, Ryan Fitzpatrick, to take the helm in a certain Texans rout of the Rams. It would be the home team's 2nd win in 11 games. I think the score was 24-3 after the half.

I could ramble all day about the horrific events that unfolded afterward. But I am no journalist and well, it's a game that I have tried to forget. Basically he came in and mounted a comeback that included scoring a td and field goal with less than 45 seconds left to play in regulation to knot the game up and send it into OT. Fitzpatrick also slammed the door shut when he hit Kevin Curtis for a 50-something yard td pass, causing a Texan's sudden death loss.

It is now October 2008 and Fitzpatrick is leading the winless Bengals into town this Sunday. Do not think that the national or local media has forgotten about this. I am sure it will be mentioned several times before and during the game.

For God's sake Texans Defense... PLEASE pay this guy back.

I know things have been tough this year, but you owe this one to your loyal fans. We deserve nothing less than at least a couple of picks and a couple of sacks.

PLEASE pressure this guy ALL DAMN DAY LONG. Go out and grab that win back for us. We deserve it and so do you!

No we won't. Think positive. It's time for a little payback (even though I don't think there's more than a handful of Texans from that team left).

I saw this guy again yesterday against the Steelers for a bit and he is infinitely mortal. If the Texans lose to the Bungles Sunday they need look no further than the mirror for the person to blame.

On a side note am I the only person who hates playing winless teams. It's like the pressure is doubled on our team trying not to be the first ones to lose to those guys and at the same time the winless teams kind of get into this loose, anything goes "zone" where they're so hungry for a win they'll try anything. I sure wish the Bungles had found a way to beat somebody by now. Like the Loins I think they're going to be very dangerous Sunday.

he's small & has a hard time seeing lanes in the pocket, more dangerous in the open field. So Mario & Co. need to contain & disrupt (sacked 7 times this weekend) if flushed out he's got three lethal weapons to throw to - Ocho Cinco, Housh & Henry.

Their standout rookie OLB Keith Rivers is out for the season with a broken jaw so the Texans still should be able to outscore the Bengals.

I think they are a completly different beast than Detroit. Rod Marinelli is hard nosed & conservative for whatever the reason will hide players on the bench it seems coming off poor practice weeks while Marvin Lewis has lost team control years ago of established Pro Bowl rich roster.
 
Orlovsky threw for 265 yards with 1 TD against us. I think Fitzpatrick is more than capable of surpassing that amount. Especially against our defense. :gun:
 
Fitzpatrick has looked bad with the Bengals. I am amazed that he ever had a good game in the NFL. Then again, it was only one game, and it was against us, so go figure. We should be able to handle the Bengals and Fitzpatrick handily. Fitzpatrick is no Dan Orlovsky, after all.

I sat behind the bench that game. I have never felt as bad for players as I did that day. Yeah, they make a lot of money, but when they walk around, everybody knows they play for the Texans. If you are defined by your job, and your job is playing for a bad football team, it has to wear on you.

It was a nice game until it was an awful game. Some guys had already started taking the tape off. You have to play until the zeros. Every. Time.

The 56 yard bomb to Curtis was bad (Curtis continued through the End Zone and ran right up the tunnel with the entire St. Louis bench in tow, no post game on field celebration), but what began the collapse that day was a 43 yard 4th down bomb to Isaac Bruce down the Texans sideline.

I certainly don't expect Fitzpatrick to duplicate that effort even with an equally talented receiving corps at his disposal in Cincy.

He was 19 of 30 for 310 yards and 3 TD's...and sacked 5 times.

Why? Has the 2008 Texans defense played particularly smart football this year, especially at the end of games? The 2005 version of the Texans secondary had a healthy Dunta Robinson. The 2008 version has a rusty one.

Detroit has one of the worst offenses in the league, even before they gave up Kitna and Williams. You can't assume anything with the Texans defense other than the Texans are doomed unless they get smarter faster.

My question is this, has a defense ever completely "click" midway through the season? Is there still time for our squad, or no, because I'm not really seeing it right now.
 
Had no where to put this but that it was kind of funny:
ESPN on MNF is advertising next weeks titans/cols game and it was all highlights of both teams against the Texans. It showed the Sage Helicopter and Titans sacking Schaub and a couple others, was like greaaaaaaat::wacko:

Agreed. Furthermore, as bad as our pass rush has been, and as poor as the Bungle's running game is, I wonder if anyone has noticed that Fitzpatrick is the 2nd top rusher on the team.
 
Capers threw that game. It is in the past. This is a different Texans team than 3 years ago. Let's just move on and forgot about it all.:texflag:

I have said this before... All that I remember about that game is my dad being in a wild rage and throwing stuff at the tv. If I had a psychiatrist, we would devote a whole week to that game.

IMHO, the Oilers choking in an playoff game pales in comparison to the 2-14 Texans losing in the last minute to a rookie qb.

No way man. You're not old enough to remember I guess, but it was one of the two worst sports experiences of my life. We were set. Imagine if that STL loss had been for the first playoff win in our history and you'd been a loyal fan for 10-15 years. That was our year. We had the most talented team in the league. Watching Givens get mugged in OT as moon threw that "int" was so infuriating. I was beside myself. I remember constantly telling my mom "they can't score 32 in a row.. they can't score 25 in a row.. they can't score 18 in a row... etc.... miserable.

Its between that and the next year. We started 1-4... won 11 in a row, including beating SF. Then we blew a 10 pt lead in the 4th quarter to lose. We were clearly the best team in the league that year.... and just got bit by Montana. Really when I think about it, maybe its that I'm older, maybe that I'm more objective in my assessment of the team this time around, but man the oilers were such a painful team to be a fan of.

We got rid of Moon after that season (somehow we wound up with BJ tolliver) and went 2-14.

Also you could argue that as bad as this run has been for the texans, the post 82 oilers were a worse experience. I know we went like 6 or 7 years without a winning record.. and I know we had several 2 and 3 win seasons. I just remember us being horrible. There wasn't much to get excited about as we had several drafts that yielded virtually nothing. Even wen moon got there we didn't have instant success. It would be interesting to look at moon from 84 on and see how he ranked compared to Schaub. Moon was similar in that he came in having played 7 years in the CFL and so he wasn't a rookie. People were calling for his head constantly, turnovers, I even think he had a problem with fumbling if I remember right. I guess the moral of this story is that this is a cyclical thing, granted we should be in a better place right now but the CC/DC era robbed us of that chance. We will get better, it won't take forever.. we're on our way there. Sorry if I'm rambling, worked 14 hours last night...

Somewhat of an "Insider" story from that Rams game.

I was under the stadium travelling from one spot to another before the game, carrying the beast I play in the band. I passed the locker room doors, and there's the sweet little old lady in security that I've gotten to know through the years...she's posted outside the door. She called me over and tells me that the weirdest thing had just happened. Mr. McNair had called everybody - players, coaches, even the security from outside into the locker room pregame. It was a rare moment, but he basically called out the entire coaching staff and told them to either win or they were going to be fired. He was ANGRY. I've never heard of him being upset like that before.

When I passed her again after the game, she just looked at me with wide eyes and shrugged. We all know how the rest of THAT season went...

But the Texans won't take Fitzpatrick for granted. Not after what he did to them three years ago.

"He kept completing pass after pass," said linebacker Morlon Greenwood, who had two sacks in the game. "The next thing you know, we're in overtime. It was definitely a heartbreaker for us."

The Rams lost Fitzpatrick's next three starts and the 2004 Ivy League Player of the Year appeared in only two games over the next two seasons before Palmer's injury this year.

The whole point of this thread is to let everyone remember what the 2-14 Texans let this guy do to them.

Let's see how the 2-4 Texans handle it. I have a feeling that some of our defense has heard enough about this guy.

He didnt play poorly at all .... made a few plays here and there without a whole lotta help from his line.
His fumble was not because he was careless with the ball , he had both hands on it , MW just got to it ... D-Rob's INT I'd have to blame on the intended reciever who never even turned around to look for the ball .
Wilsons INT (Into double coverage) was one of the few really poor decisions he made.
I'd say he did about all you could expect of a back-up QB ....
 
This was satisfying.

That little turd crushed us in overtime, and I was happy each time we lowered him a notch today.

A 2-14 record for an expansion team will NEVER pale to the meltdown in Buffalo. I've been a Houston fan since my 1st game in '76 and the only loss that compares to Buffalo is losing to the Steelers in '79 because of a botched call by the refs on a TD by Renfro.

OUCH!!!!! I AM old enough to remember that CLEARLY!!! Montana had a grapefruit hanging off of his right elbow after being sacked about 13 times and STILL beat us. The Buffalo game has more of a tequila colored haze to it...

Ryan didn't play all THAT great. We dropped 2-3 INT's... He did a decent job, though.

He threw the ball like 30 times for 150 and all they got were two field goals. The only thing that Fitz did well was hitting the open hole when he felt the pressure.

I wish D Rob would have popped his ass before he made it out of bounds.

Anyone else notice Amobi constantly pressuring this guy in the first half.
