Leach, Walters, Greenwood.

Lets give some of the guys who don't get major recognition credit today, they had a huge hand in our win in this primetime game.

Kevin Walters = Is it me, or when we motion him into the I good things happen? Also, did you see that play he stayed into pass block on that long completion?
Vonta Leach = Incredible blocking, he really gave room for our running backs.
Greenwood = I once again eat my crow about him, for this game, he really played up to his contract.
 
What I'm seeing on the defensive side is primarily "buy-in" to the system. I'm not terribly impressed with Richard Smith, Frank Bush, or their "defensive philosophy" as it's been displayed thus far but they've had their moments where things have clicked from time to time. In the past two weeks it seems like the players on that side of the ball are back to where they were in week two against Carolina. They're just playing their butts off and clearly believe in what they're doing.

I don't think you necessarily must have a great system to win in the NFL. You can have an adequate system if it works to your better players strengths and if your defense believes in what they're doing. You can have success with that. It's not as good obviously as having them buy into something like the Buddy Ryan 46 back in the day but you can have some success.

They've had two good wins the past couple of weeks and are playing with confidence. Lets see what they do in Indy. It's unlikely that we'll beat the Colts but lets see if we can make it a game.
 
I think the case can be made that Greenwood has been our best linebacker this year...just saying. Anyway, its great that our team seems to be built on star players, but we get contributions from everybody. If we can acctually keep people healthy for a season, who knows how far this team can go.

So that's what you'd like to see them have . . . a "Buddy Ryan 36 defensive philosophy"? Just curious as to why you think that would be better, given the current players.
 
Leach was unreal tonight.

No defender wanted to take him on.

He was driving guys deep into the defensive backfield, into the last line of defense tonight.
 
Why do our guys not buy into his system the first half of the season for the past two years?

I mean, this marks the second-straight season with Smith as DC...featuring conservative playcalling up until the last few games of the season whereby the guys are ripping through olines like a tornado through a trailer park.

Just when you think Smith goes and gets himself canned, he totally redeems himself at the end.
 
All three had great games and I was thrilled to see Leach get that last TD. After alll of the work he did, if anyone "deserved" to get a touchdown, it was him.
 
I think Charlie Anderson played a pretty good game last night as well. Did he get the start? He easily looked like the fastest of our LBs last night, and palyed a game similar to some of the ones we've seen from Demeco.

What's gotten into Greenwood? Earlier in the year I was certain that we needed an upgrade at both OLB spots, but I'll be damned if Greenwood isn't making a case that he is one of the better WLBs over the last 3 weeks.

Leach was an f'in batterin ram last night.

Looks lkike Kubiak was right about a player...again. Walters took a huge shot from Lynch and acted like it was nothing, and even more importantly the ball never moved.

Maybe he read all the trash I ever talked about him. He's doing damn well on 4th downs. *Eats more crow* Lets see him finish the season (and playoffs hee hee) like this.

That's not what I meant Marcus. I was speaking hypothetically. I meant that it would be better if they were buying into and playing well in some defensive guru system instead of what I think is a fairly ordinary defensive scheme. I just pulled the ol' 46 up because it came to mind.

I was speaking literally.
 
freddy was really impressive also imo

salaam did well and weaver hustled around the place even if he didnt pass rush much

AD made some nice plays- another great pickup

everybody made plays really
 
Greenwood is stepping it up. I was thinking he could get cut because of his overly high salary but with the way this guy is playing now Im happy to have him stick around. I was also very skeptical of Walter before the season started, but he has proven he has what it takes to be a solid contributor. Leach was beastly as well, making huge blocks and then pounding it in for the one yard TD.
 
I try to use Walter with no first name since I was castigated for putting an s there. A-N-Y-W-A-Y, Walter with no s has turned me around. He has the mentality of a TE and seems to block pretty well. He was decleated once and I closed my eye knowing he fumbled. The guy(no s) hopped up with a smile. I still can't figure out this defense as it looked very good last night. Yes they gave up some passes but did not break.
 
Try not to think of it as me correcting you specifically. It's more of a point to raise awareness for everyone so that we can learn his name.

I didn't realize you were the one who started the Kevin Walter thread. I was really excited when I saw that thread the first time because I like the guy and I like when he gets recognized.

Go Texans.
