Any shot at McFadden?

The1ApplePie

So, the Texans have a monster schedule left, with Fragile Matty and half the line out. So, if the Texans choke their asses off, will they have a shot at McFadden? I guess the 9ers have to go on a winning streak to keep the Pats away from him, but we may have an outside shot.

If we do, we either get the best player in the NCAA or we have great trade bait.

Any thoughts?

Yea I have heard alot of talk about everyone wanting McFadden. We won't get him, however there will be alot of options in this draft.

Pats need to discover a burning need at other than RB and we have to continue to play as we have, then we have a legitimate shot. Dolphins have many needs & I encourage all Texans fans to do a mind weld and whisper "Dorsey".

Shoot, maybe Miami should take Matt Ryan. Or draft McFadden and hope for a McNabb or some veteran and bank on Beck for the future? What does Miami do?

The Patriots are going to take McFadden if they have the chance. Maroney and McFadden, Tom Brady, Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Donte Stallworth sounds like an all star team.

I imagine teams will be trying to get McFadden before the Patriots pick. Nobody wants the Pats to get McFadden.

i've been hearing so much talk about Miami taking McFadden.

I doubt that the Dolphins will draft McFadden for any reason other than trading him, unless they have real concerns that neither of their currently injured Running Backs will return to form.

Apparently the dolphins have tried to hijack this thread, but Apple, I dont see a shot in he77 in McFadden.... Most mocks that i have seen have us picking around 12, 13 or 14 spot. Each mock had us picking anywhere from an OT to LB (from Penn State) or a RB (if Felix Jones from Arkansas comes out)...

14. Houston Texans - Felix Jones, RB, Arkansas *
The Texans haven't had a strong option at running back since the injury and subsequent retirement of Domanick Davis (a.k.a. Domanick Williams) in 2005. Ahman Green has proven to be yet another example of the low-end payoff of bringing in a 30-year-old running back to carry the load, and with the RB talent that should be present in this draft, there should be many players from which to choose for the Texans.

The four-year contract Green signed is going to haunt the Texans; the $5 million signing bonus was tough, the $3 million earned in salary and roster bonus in 2007 was stiff, and the large salaries lined up for the next three years will make it difficult to justify retaining him, particularly in years three and four.

There are a wide variety of running backs for the Texans to choose from, but Jones is an elite, elusive talent who could be a starter from the get-go for the Texans.

I'm still calling for a phins move down. J.J. will call. He gets that beastie in Dallas...

J.J. offers three ones and a two...plus a plyer or two...do the phins do the deal ?

I dont get the obsession with Dallas trading up for McFadden.

They really aren't hurtin in the run game right now:

#7 in rushing offense (121.4)
#5 in YPC (4.3)
#10 in rushing TDs (11)
#5 with only 3 lost fumbles

I expect them to get a top CB & maybe another LB or DL before they go RB, even if it is McFadden.

or a RB (if Felix Jones from Arkansas comes out)...

As much as I would really want a LT, I would be very supportive of Felix Jones. With Houston Nutt leaving Arkansas for Ole Miss, Arkansas program being in the unknown and prob. not a SEC West contender, McFadden being drafted top 5, I wonder if Felix jump ship and declares...

As you say, with Houston Nutt leaving and Arkansas a big "?", I would say there is a pretty good shot at him declaring.

I wonder if Dallas would be more likely to trade up for Felix than they would be for McFadden. I still say it's going to be a horrible trade for Dallas if they trade all the way up to #1. They won't have to trade away as much to move up to somewhere around where we are picking.

I was wondering this as well. I wouldn't take Jones in the first, but he could be there later, and if nothing else he would push other quality backs down further in the draft where we might have an opportunity to pick them.

Oh stop, your making me too excited now.

I would really love it if we could trade down and grab a late 1st and early 2nd. Get a RB like Ray Rice AND a Quality Left Tackle....both could start for us next year.

This would be nice, and if not a RB then maybe some secondary help. Again, after moving to Sd I really think Turner would fit our system, as long as his contract isn't stupid then I would love to have him. He may not get a giant offer as there are so many young RB that look good, a team that has fewer holes may just draft a RB vs giving him jack. That would be my philosophy if we weren't so banged up at so many positions. Sign Turner, hoepfully a quality LB and DB. Trade back draft a Olineman, a DB, an OC and a speed rusher - thats my X-mas list anyway. I would also love to take a young QB in the 5 or 6th. If Dennis Dixon drops due to injury I would take a look. He has looked good in the games I have seen.

Why do you think Turner has FA bust written all over him? Have you even seen him play? Green and Turner's situation are nothing alike. Green came here with alot of wear and tear and coming off a serious knee injury. Turner happens to play behind the best RB in the game and all he does is produce. He is injury free with limited wear and tear. They are nothing alike at all. You have no idea what you are talking about.

Look I am not saying Turner is going to be the next Earl, but he clearly has skills. He may have a hard time finding big $$$ because of all the young RBs in the draft - D-Mac, Ray Rice, HArt, Mendenhall, Stewart, Jones, ect....
If we can add other positions of need then I say do it - get as many pieces as possible. he gets a stupid offer from another team then they can have him, but I don't think that will be the case. Cut AG, and use some of the saving to replace him with a younger alternative and address DB and OL in the draft. If we did not have so many needs then I wouldn't want to sign Turner because we could find a good back for cheaper in the draft, BUT we have LOTS of holes - signing him (provided the contract will work for us) and filling other needs trhough the draft gets us closer to where we want to be - a winning team.

Plenty of RBs ride the pine behind great backs and look good, then get paid a lot of money and look like crap. Lamont Jordan was suposed to be Jesus in cleats after sitting behind Martin. Benson was suposed to be able to carry the load. Domick Rhodes looked good when splitting time with James and Addai.

Chester Taylor or Priest Holmes are in the minority

I take Kenny Phillips if I can get him and get CC Brown off the GD field.

If he isn't there I go to offensive tackle or corner.

We are going to have a top 15 pick for sure. Probably top 10. We are going to have a shot at alot of good offensive lineman and secondary players. I sincerely hope they go in that route. The only exception is a stud RB. Felix Jones looked good as a backup, but not in the top 10 or top 15. First round maybe but top 15?

Again, Lamont Jordan has looked very good well healthy behind a very shaky line in Oakland. You got to look at the teams that some of these RBs sign with. Raiders have had shaky line play for since they last went to the superbowl.

Turner is a big sturdy back that runs with great power. He is a one cut runner with the speed to go the distance ( he has a 70yd TD and was a KO returner for SD) He is so much better than anything we have or have ever had. He would be an improve along the lines of Holmes. Our line might not be great but we can run block, and if big spence comes back with a first round LT I would expect our line to be even better.

Look, I am for filling as many needs as possible to get us above 500 next year and competing for a playoff spot. Because of our division we have to be able to run the ball. Turner might get a ton of money from someone, but again given the list of RBs in the draft, he might not get as much as some think. I would love to have him for a reasonable FA contract - given FA contracts are always on the high side but that usually goes for every position. Signing him would allow us to fill other needs. UNfortunately, our other needs would be even more $$$ if filled through FA - LT and DB. I can guarantee that Samuels will get stupid $$$ from someone and I highly doubt a starting caliber LT will hit the FA market.

Is that with our magicaly reapearing second round pick?
No magic as I have constantly posted that we can trade our apprx #11 pick to Arizona for the 17th and get a second round. See BeerLovers thread 'December mock'. He thinks Clady and Baker wil be gone but there are LTs still available in late first. I could see an further trade from 17 to late 20's and pick up a 3rd round and still get an Alex Boone LT in first. In that possible scenario we have a first, 2nd, two thirds and a fourth to go bananas with.:whip:

I agree about stupid $ for Samuel but we do have stupid money this off season and he would definitely fill a hole that would help LBs, and safeties. Make Bennett look even better and allow Dunte time to heal and maybe return in late 08. Samuel has said he would have resigned for $10 million. He might not do that for us but it is worth looking into.

I would rather have Nnamdi Asomugha from the Raiders (If he exercises his option this year), than Samuels. Samuels already stated he is in it to get paid, and I would rather not have somebody with that attitude. Plus, with Samuels out there Asomugha might go for a little cheaper than our friend playing for the evil empire.

Speaking of the evil empire, my guts tell me that they attempt a trade down and try to pick up some LB's. Did anybody see the game against Baltimore on monday? Those LB's are old, and are starting to show it.

Asomugha is a top 5 corner. he won't be cheap.

The market price for top end corners got set by San Fransico last year with Nate Clements. You're looking at seven years 60 to 80 million total with a prety hefty signing bonus. If they tag Willaim Gay, and you can Get Mr. McNair to the watering hole once again, that would take Cb off the high priorty list.

The shame of it is that Dante has earned his money. Now we return that loyalty and effort by kicking the guy in the teeth and giving his money to Samuels.

.......After inking ILB Adalius Thomas and DE Ty Warren to long-term deals within the last year, the next big defensive question is what to do with franchised CB Asante Samuel. For as effective as Samuel has been this season, New England views him more as a system guy than an elite talent, so he figures to bolt if offered a blockbuster deal by another team — a likely scenario. The position that will see the most movement is linebacker. ILBs Junior Seau and Tedy Bruschi could very well be in their final NFL season, and OLBs Rosevelt Colvin and Mike Vrabel are also both north of 30. In contrast to the Tampa-2 defense in vogue throughout the league, New England’s 3-4 scheme is predicated upon stout LB play, so expect them to go after some young, developmental ’backers. Assuming Bill Belichick remains the skipper, he’ll be given free rein to pick the players he sees fit, entrusting V.P. of player personnel Scott Pioli to sign them to cap-friendly deals.

Dude, you are living in a fantasy if you don't realize that EVERY player is looking to get paid. That is why they are called Professional Athletes.

Life is truly not fair. Dunte remains under contract and may not play another down. We can deal with his future if and when it is determined he has one. We have plenty room for two studs (Samuel & DR) and an apparently good CB ( bennett)

My notes in bold above in our post.

Yeah they could do it that way. One year left on the contract.... They pay someone seventy million...won't be no waiting there 'ol hoss. They'll settle Robinson out. And that is the problem...he has one year left on the contract. Your choices are...befor you know anything for fact...pay him or settle him...isn't no third way. Especailly if you're playing his repacement seventy million. They aren't going to keep the guy this spring if they have to make a choice this spring. They won't...er check that shouldn't, carry the guy on IR all of '08 if that is what they believe is going to happen.
Difference between Robinson and Spencer is the termination date on the contract. If he can't go next summer...they'll settle Charles Spencer out too.

S Will Demps will get every chance to prove he belongs in the future plans, as the season-ending knee and hamstring injuries suffered by CB Dunta Robinson could cause the Texans to use Hutchins, the starting free safety, at cornerback.

i brought the same pt up in another thread.... but DD 'deserved' his money aswell yet it still hurt us alot- its not a charity- dunta has been well paid aswell..

i dont know- i just think we need a couple big (smart) FA signings this season to show we mean business.. i dont mean paying alot of average guys alot like the skins etc did- but like cleveland do..

id say a decent signing or 2 on both sides of the ball

eg turner and a good starting o-lineman on offence and any 1 of suggs/ briggs/ samuel/ asomugha on D

i know it sounds a litlle like fantasy football but screw it overpaying decent guys hasnt worked (weaver, green, greenwood) so why not pay a little more to secure a blue chipper?

I'm with you ...and realize everyone I love Robinson. I mean he wants to redo the deal absorb some of the Texan's risk...I'd be all for that...top ten money ? That's like putting your chips on 00 at the roulette table. If it comes down to that type do decidsion you would hope that Rick Smith would exersice some tough love.

Every year we see a running back projected into the top of the draft, and every year that same running back goes much lower than expected

Heck, AD was almost around for us at the 10 spot
