Illinois @ Ohio State

Oskee Wow Wow, Illinois!

Awesome freakin' game. Juice stepped up and got the job done.

Hail to the Chief! I know this guy is "retired," but not in my heart and mind:

I hate you and am never talking to you (*sarcasm*) but I did want to say "PC" is killing America - he was a great tradition and there was nothing offensive about him.

Yep if it doesn't invovle a casino I guess we can't recognise the native americans anymore.
What's gonna hurt is the tumble tonight when the rankings come out. Brace yourself there Yankee.

Where's the rock chalk Jayhawk guy. the fat man has put you in the money. Get by the flying tigers and OU, they ought to tear up they guys contrat. Lock him up.

Ehh, rankings don't matter to us any more. If you're not 1 or 2, do they matter? If we beat MI, we go to the Rose Bowl regardless.

(I think it is STUPID that rankings aren't used to fill the BCS bowls - if MI beats us, they go to the Rose Bowl with THREE losses?!?!))

I think it's STUPID that they don't have a playoff system so that losses like OSU's yesterday doesn't end your season 3 weeks before the season's over.

Yup...I'm as socially liberal as they come and I can tell the difference between a stupid looking mascot like the Indians logo and a symbol like Chief Illiniwek. The stupid NCAA and their post-season sanctions did the Chief in.

That was a great game yesterday. I think it's almost a shame that folks are focusing on "oh, OSU is overrated"...uh, did anyone but me watch the Illini this year? They have TALENT. I was so skeptical of Zook when he was hired, but I have to say, he has those kids believing. I'm so excited to see what next year brings for the program.

Yeah, I actually expected a bit more from both of our teams this year. *shrugs*

Not sure how teaching people about the Indian culture and traditions, and meaning behind dress and dances is offensive (you know what I mean on that one). Idiots.

Or a loss early in the season that in many cases ends your season before it even gets started. This is why I don't get too jacked up by college ball. It will never be a legitimate sport to me until they have a legitimate playoff system like every other sport in this world.

There's the biggest problem IMO. Losing early rarely ends your chances. Losing late is a death knell.

I agree, look at Michigan last year. They lost to #1 Ohio State by 3 in the Shoe. Granted it happened to be a #1 v. #2, but I have NO IDEA why losing earlier is so much better than losing late. Makes NO SENSE.

It depends on the team but you're right, losing late is worse. My point was you can get excited about the season but if your team loses in week 2 in most cases it takes the excitment out of the season when there is still most of the season remaining.

Even worse than that is there are many teams in the NCAA that have no shot before the season even starts. You know, those teams that can go undefeated but since they haven't played a top tier team have no shot to prove what they can do until they get to some lame bowl to play some top tier team with 2 or more losses (i.e. Boise State last season).

Shoulda said the other is the 2nd biggest problem. This is the one that is the most unfair.

While a playoff would be my first choice, I'd rather have the old system over the BCS. At least then everyone agreed the national championship was mythical.

no sense? makes a lot of sense to me. you don't feel the pressure early in the season as you do late, and the teams aren't fully formed and functional early on, so it makes more sense to be punished for those late-season losses than the early ones.

Teams are punished for the loss, PERIOD.

Team A - loses bad to unranked school in week 1, wins out
Team B - loses in week 11 to ranked team in a close game

With the current system, Team A goes, Team B does not. That doesn't make sense.

A weighted scale is applied, giving more "points" for games played later in the year. I don't agree with that.
