Information on Michael Boulware

Here is some basic info I think everyone should know on our new starting SS! Whether or not you like the trade, this guy is the now the hardest hitter on our D, and we should be PUMPED to have him here!
This is not a thread to comment on the trade value, so PLEASE no mention of Babin in here. This is just to discuss our newest Texan!!

Height - 6'3"
Weight - 220 lbs
Age - 25
40 time - 4.45

Stats:
2004 - 65 tackles, 6 passes defended, 5 INTs, 2 FFs, 1 sack (1 TD!)
2005 - 73 tackles, 9 passes defended, 4 INTs, 1 FF, 2 sacks
2006 - 40 tackles, 6 passes defended, 1 INT, 1 FF

In 2005, this guy CAME TO PLAY in the playoffs. In his 3 games, he accumulated 13 tackles, 3 defended passes, and 2 INTs. One in the superbowl!


Some other notes of interest:

Michaels a really great person, who lives by his faith. While not a particularly religious person myself, I still can value the type of person that he claims to be:

Because of this, he is known around Florida State as a good role model, someone who cares about himself and the community. He is really one of the nice guys. This became very evident in the spring of 2002. When most college kids were partying during spring break, Boulware, teammate Paul Irons and 14 others from Morningstar International Church traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa. As the Tallahassee Missions Team, the group set out to help start a Champions for Christ ministry with the His People Christian Church of Johannesburg.

I like his INT totals in the first 2 seasons. It looks like we'll have something resembling a playmaker in our secondary.

If he gets burned its nothing new, if he makes big plays it is something new. We know what we were gonna have with Babin but we dont know what we'll get with Boulware, im excited for the future!!! :d:

Just out of curiosity, why do you think he's only had 1 okay year? His ffirst year, he set a record for the seahawks with 5 INTs, the second year he had 9 PDs and 4 INTs, along with a few sacks and some FFs. Each year he had around 70 tackles. Those are pretty good stats by DB standards

Last year he didnt play much, and didn't really accumulate much in terms of stats.

Just to put it into perspective, the Texans have NEVER had a safety record more than 4 INTs. I really can't think of any time we've had a safety with more than 2 INTs, but I could be wrong. So how his this such a disapointment to you?

I don't really watch the Seahawks much...

but You've got me confused lol. I LOVE having him here and think the trade was excellent for us.

I was saying 'One okay year' because I am wondering why the Seahawks didn't like him too much...and looking at the stats, it seems like they have a very short memory of what he is capable of. I hope he can come in here and produce those same numbers because we need that from a safety.

The one okay year I was talking about was last year, I am more wondering why the Seahawks would trade him now. Everyone took what I said wrong lol, I am not saying it was a bad trade...

yeah i read your post incorrectly! I too am excited for Sunday. I feel like our weakest position got a shot in the arm. At the very l east, we have some new blood with a good personality and something to prove.

Back at Northeast Richland’s Polo Road Park, where his football career began, the three-year NFL veteran’s head filled with memories of a championship team.

“I remember my last year here,” Boulware said. “We played on the Giants. We had an undefeated team. It was just a great experience for me. Other than last season’s run to the Super Bowl, that was the greatest team I’ve ever played on in my life.”

Thanks to matching $5,000 donations by Michael and his older brother, former Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl linebacker Peter Boulware, kids attempting to follow in their footsteps will get a big-time experience playing in the Northeast Columbia Football Association at Polo Road Park.

Michael Boulware was back in town Friday for the dedication of a new digital scoreboard that is already operational at the Polo Road Park football field. For the ceremony, the scoreboard displayed 28 (Michael) on the guest side with 58 (Peter) on the home side, honoring the brothers’ jersey numbers.

On the back is a sign featuring color action photos of the Boulware brothers, including a shot of Michael intercepting a pass during the Seahawks’ loss to Pittsburgh in Super Bowl XL.

Officials from the Richland County Recreation Commission and the Northeast Columbia Football Association used Friday’s 45-minute ceremony to thank the Boulware’s for making the scoreboard a reality.

“I just want to thank the family and the Boulware brothers for giving back to the community,” Richland County Recreation Commission Chairman Charles Epps said. “They are setting an example of love and caring and sharing of what God has blessed them with.”

A fundraiser by the players brought in $3,500, but with price estimates around $15,000, the project may have died without the Boulware donations. Richland County Recreation Commission employees installed the scoreboard, which further defrayed costs.

“This project is a fine example of community involvement and partnership,” Northeast Columbia Football Association president David Dawson said. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of many people, it all came together for the most important portion of the community, the children.”

uhh, Marcus Coleman has the team record for most int in a season with 7 int. It was in 2004 when he was switched to FS.

EDIT: NM, it was in 2003 when he had 7 int, 2004 he had 2 int. I'm not sure if he was a safety or a CB in 2003 though...

Im pretty sure Coleman wasn't switched to FS until AFTER Dunta was drafted, but I could be wrong. In 2003-2004 he had 7 INTs as CB alongside Aaron Glenn. We switched him FS when Dunta came aboard, and he only had 2 INTs that year (along with 45 tackles, 9 PDs, 0 ff/sacks)
 
I figure Rick and Gary knew what they wanted as soon as Earl went down with his injury. Even with all the guys being released, they had to have done their homework and knew Boulware was who they wanted and needed.

I like the addition to the secondary, I wish JB well, and I'm glad we have who we have as GM and HC.

Boulware played LB at college and was converted to Safety by the Hawks. He was blamed for some missed assignments on the pass coverage last year which is why they brought in Brian Russell and Deon Grant at Safety.

He's the brother of former Raven - Peter as well.
 
i like the trade...babin was starting to show life but that helped us make the deal in the first place. boulware is a good player, a young player, and a fast player. Sounds to me like we have a new Safety and one that can make big plays. Color me happy.

Just the fact that Rick Smith made a deal to unload our dead wood for someone else's dead wood, rather than chunking our guy for a can of peas is a positive move. Might be a first of this organization. Now Boulware may not live up to our expectations. But all I know was when he came out, I was very hot for the guy. I think Orr showed enough as the situational pass rusher this summer to make Babins expendable. We weren't going to resign the guy. Having two was kinda redundant.
 
The Seahawks feel like they got the better end of the deal. Of course I'm sure they have to say these kind of things.

“With the depth the Seahawks have at safety and the kind of pass-rusher Babin is, this was a no-brainer,” Rang said. “At worst, it gives them quality depth at defensive end, but with their defensive scheme and rotation, this could be a coup.”

Actually, for those of you in Fantasy Football Leagues that allow trades, this is what a fair trade looks like. Equal value for each team, with each team addressing a weakness by trading their surplus to the other.
 
i love boulware...he was a huge force at florida state. He is a hitter, and isn't as bad in coverage as he is being made out to be. He is an upgrade in a secondary that needed upgrading....definitely better then brown, earl, simmons, or whatever else we could have thrown out. Jamar fletcher, Dunta, Boulware.......we have one good corner, one good nickel, and one good safety....we are 2 pieces away from a great secondary. If bennett can become our number 2, all we lack is a ballhawk free safety. One piece away guys........this is awesome.
 
Downside issues to be aware of - shoulder surgery in the offseason and the second year after a major ACL repair - certaily issues to pay attention to. Assuming they are doing what they need to make sure all is medically "OK" then this should be a pretty big upgrade in the secondary. Run support certainly gets a boost and our blitz package just got better, but the in the middle and deep passing routes are still a problem (middle may become less of an issue after he jacks up a few coming across).

Way to look on the brightside.

I agree with your assesment, if you add Faggins in as well we have a great dime corner as well.

I'm hoping Bennet emerges as a true #2 but I haven't seen or heard too much that inspires that level of confidence in me..... yet.
