Ephraim Salaam and LT?

gtexan02

Working?
Does anyone know what are plans are for the LT position?

I know Salaam is the starter and the job is his to lose, but I seem to remember him getting nicked up a lot last year, and had assumed after the season last year his primarily role was going to be part time starter/back up

I have heard that Black hasn't looked great so far, and remember seeing him false start at least once in the preseason game against hte Bears

Having Spencer come back would be great, but at this point, I will just be happy if he's healthy enough to practice. Missing almost all of your rookie season, all of training camp, and the first half of this season doesnt bode well for him breaking into the starting lineup any time soon

Has there been any talk about moving Winston over and letting one of the new guys or maybe even Black play there if Salaam goes down?

I would love to have a young guy like Spencer or Winston take the LT position and just hold onto it for years and years. Having a new guy there very few years just isn't fun

I'm not very confident in Salaam's ability. I've made that pretty clear. That said, you can't go into a season assuming a guy's going to get hurt (unless it's DD/W or Bennie Joppru). I think they did enough to hold out until Spencer's ready to go. I'm not any more confident in Black than I am in Salaam. Probably less. Regardless, these are the horses Smith and Kubiak have to run with and I'll hope I'm wrong about Salaam.

Well we're definately in a spot still at LT and i don't see Winston moving back to LT. I'd be really excited actually if he could man down the RT position the rest of his career here. I know having Salaam there again but fora full season makes all of us neverous but it'll be hard for Spencer to crack the lineup this year i think.

Next year the roster turn over will be complete, in the meantime, two very solid drafts have put us in a much better postion then we've been in. I'm curious as to how Brandon Frye develops.

Most of you know I've complained about LT forever. Salaam nor Black appear to be our long term answer. Winston stays where he is. Remember, late last season there were some plays that went successfully over his side of line. I think that the play of RB, QB, TE (especially if OD is healthy) WR (Walters and/or Jones & maybe even Mathis) should ease pressure on LT. I think Salaam will do for this season which is all we can ask at this point. Black should be able to give some plays off to Salaam. Throw in a Spencer in last half or even later and Salaam can be stretched. I also am interested in Frye.

Salaam played very well despite an injury last year...our woes were more at center and at RT than at LT last season.

If they get the job done and keep Schaub's uniform clean, that's good enough for me, whether I'm confident in their abilities or not.

Houston Texans quotes:

(on if he is nervous about being on the left side) “No, I’ve been left side for a long time in this league and I’m not worried about that. (Bad things happening to him on the left side) Just trying to be the best left tackle in team history. So my goal is real high, that’s why I work hard everyday and try to get myself ready to where when the season starts I will be a dominant left tackle.”

Sometimes stuff strikes me as being sorta funny. Unfortunately, some of the best humor comes from pain.

best in team history is very possible we havent had that many in our couple years

Speaking of which anyone know how well the camp battle between McKinney and Flanigan is going? Is Chris White someone we should keep an eye on as well?

I think Salaam is going to do a good job this year...

I think he'll give up some sacks, but overall I expect him to be respectable...

Seth Wand was to be our best prospect. Boy was I wrong on that.

Didn't we pickup an ex-GB left tackle here in the last couple of months, Barry? Hadn't seen hide or hair of him since we picked him up...

watch the last game...he played :)

Unfortunately I don't have DVR and my anniversary just so happen to fall on the day of the Texans preseason opener ( I need to divorce and remarry in January). Any word on how he did in TC and what he looked like against the bears?

Ouch. With Salaam's sense of humor, I wouldn't be surprised if he said this tongue in cheek.

So my goal is real high

Thank God goals are set so high in the Lone Star state!

I will give Salaam credit. I rate him higher than Spencer, Riley, and Bocelli. (I love this thread...)

Don't think that some of us haven't noticed who you didn't say, no matter how much many people would have wanded you to say it.

Agreed.

Kevin Barry is the OT from GB; he's more of a power run tackle. His pass blocking isn't great according to what I've been able to read about him.

Chris White is making noise at center but unless he can play guard too, I don't see us keeping him.

Now pray tell what could you have thought of .....

He basically is mostly already there?

If you think Seth Wand is no longer on this team, because of his inability to play the position, you'll never be satisfied with our LT until ESPN announces him as a ProBowler.

My point, is to use your eyes, trust your instincts. Seth Wand was a very good prospect at LT.

It's good to see post from this man again...

You mean I was right after all? Dag nab it. Someone pointed out to me that he had not been picked up by anyone after leaving Houston.

I think you'll find him on the Titans roster. Mike Munchak, his o-line coach, knows a bit about line play too. Wand joined them last year, although he could have come back to the Texans when Wiegert went down (if the rumor mill is correct).
