Who do you want and why?

Who's the one guy you really want to see end up with the Texans this year. Regardless of Round and whatnot.

Mine is Garrett Wolfe. Everyone doubts him because he's little (5'7", 180 lbs.). He is a great combination of speed and power. For a little guy, he packs a big punch. He is a hard worker, and can be electrifying to watch when he makes the cut, or plows over the Linebacker and turns on the speed. A longtime favorite of mine. People don't like the size and durability questions, and the fact that he can't move the pile. No one is willing to take a risk on him early and he knows that. His message to all the teams is that "I've worked hard for every spot I've held." He won't go before the 5th or 6th round, but could immediately step in as the 2/3 runner. I call it that because he is the opposite of the Dayne train and would be in when the situation called for it.

Look on you tube at what he did in the first game this year against Ohio State. He led the world in rushing this year, but played hurt midseason.
 
Ryan Kalil C USC.

The chances of us getting him are probably .5% now.

I would have loved to see him here because we need a long term solution at C and we don't have one...he's also a leader along the line and knows the ZBS.
 
John Wendling, safety out of Wyoming. From Rocksprings, WY. My brother worked the oil fields out there about 2 yrs. ago and got me watching him, and I'm telling you this kid can play ball. Plus since he grew up in Rocksprings so I know you don't have to worry about him in a fight.

I was shocked how good he did in the combine, and it just made me want him playing for the Texans even more.

He will probably go in the 3rd or 4th rounds.
 
Levi Brown. OT is not a flashy pick, so most people don't want us to use our 1st round on it. Charles Spencer is still an unknown and an uncertain. There is no guarentee he will return. Plain and simple, we MUST protect our 48 million dollar investment.

Brown is who I want, too. What I find alarming is that Kubes publicly stating that they will probably take an OT in the first round. Since he said that, then that means OT will not be taken, which again alarms me because that is exactly what I want them to do.

or he said it pubicly to make others believe it is purely a bluff when in reality it is his true intension to draft him at 10. Hmmm... :stirpot:
 
Dallas Baker WR-6-3 203 Florida

Only down side is he is still raw. Needs to work on inline and down feild blocking. Thats his only weak points, and with a decent WR to work with(and we already have some) he could be a legit #2 WR in a year. As you can see from the stas, not overly fast(they say his 40's aren't as fast as he plays), but he can produce. And will be around in the 5th.

Projected 4/5th round
Give the kid a year with Green and Dayne to work with and he could be a legit starter on any NFL team. Projected as the 8th best RB in the draft, give him a year to gain more power and work on his leg drive and cutting ability.

Status: Senior

Height: 5-10

Weight: 215

40-Yard Dash: 4.55 (EST)

Positives:
During his junior season, Darby showed that he could run well against good, even great defenses, particularly at the end of the season (he played spectacularly in losing efforts against LSU and Auburn). He also put up respectable numbers in Alabama's bowl game against Texas Tech. He possesses tremendous strength, can make catches out of the backfield, runs intelligently, and can make great players miss (see Alabama vs. Ole Miss.) Finally, he delivers when he needs to, and can consistently convert third-and-short situations.
Negatives:
Darby has mediocre speed for a featured running back, and lacks explosiveness. As such, he cannot make plays that break open games. This will only be more apparent in the NFL, where he will have a lot of trouble running to the outside. Darby also performed very poorly this season, during which he scored zero touchdowns, and barring the Florida game, did not play well against ranked opponents (He averaged 3.01 yds/carry against teams ranked by year's end).
Overview:
Though Darby has had a bad year, he made it clear during his junior season that he possesses undeniable talent and toughness, and that with a good passing game, he can run well against good defenses. Leon Washington showed that players with lackluster senior seasons can still be effective in the NFL. He may not be able to break open games, but he can gain short yardage and convert important third downs.
Projection:
A spectacular combine could lift him into the first day. Otherwise, he will probably end up in the late rounds.

Reminds me of Emmitt Smith, not game breaking speed but a solid smart RB.

most of the players I would love to become Texans will now be gone due to where our draft picks fall. the 1st pick I would have loved to seen LaRon Landry, Adrian Peterson & Levi Brown. all three should become all-pro players @ the next level, each bring leadership, athletic ability & toughness.

lost a whole bunch of potential players now without a 2nd so I'll just say I'm looking forward to seeing what Schuab is going to do as the Houston Texans starter, if he provides an upgrade @ QB then he was worth every penny.

3rd rd. I really wanted cb Eric Wright unlv. when its all said & done I beleive he will be one of the top 3 cb's of the 07 draft. teams are working him out now & he is proving that he is recoverd from injury & off field issues. he has excellent hands & can also be used in the return game. he is a playmaker. realisticly since the wr class is deep hopefully one will still be on the board for the Texans. my favorite wr is Anthony Gonzalez as a #2 he could step in & immediately have impact & take pressure off AJ/Schuab.

4th 5th 6th & 7th rd. bpa the Texans have so many needs Jay Moore de, James Marten ot, Aundrae Allison wr, Fred Bennett cb, Kevin Boss te, Keith Jackson dt.

Whenever I see something like "takes play off' that player gets marked off the list.

I'd prefer we take Landry, Nelson or Carriker.

I'm not huge on Yahoo sports myself. It this was an across the board problem that was multiply reported I'd have issues. I haven't heard as much.Curious about if they mean false start penalties or others. I keep in mind two of the toughest places to play are Ohio State and Michigan. Those two palces alone could account for penatlies...not to mention who you have to worry about on the field. I'm still hoping for Brown myself. I think it's a deep enough WR class to grab a guy like Jason Hill in the third. Not sure which direction we'll go wit hte first pick...i'd just like to see both lines continued to be upgraded.... a new punter would be awesome too :D
 
I'd really like to see us grab Aundrae Allison in the 4th as a sleeper. That won't happen though. He'll probably be gone by then. I'm watching for sleepers. I just couldn't help but root for Marques Colston last season. I'm a big underdog kind of guy.

Garrett Wolfe would be an interesting pick but I don't know where he would go in the draft. I haven't looked at enough mocks that went deep in the rounds. I'd definitely give him a shot and think he could work VERY well in the ZBS. Should we spend a 3rd or 4th on him? Not sure. Our backfield doesn't need a 'gamble' and Wolfe fits that bill with his small stature but I'd certainly love to see him become a Texan.

I'm just going to pump out offensive or defensive weapons rather than offensive linemen. We need linemen but they simply just aren't what I'd 'hope' for on my team. I'm hoping for explosive, slap you in your face, type of players and those generally fall towards defensive players as well as offensive weapons, not monotonous offensive linemen.
 
I woud offer up rd 1 this year & rd 1 next year for Detroit's 1st this year & a third next year

But we'd have the lineman of the future to protect Schaub. That's just one way of looking at it. Silence the critics. Alas, I agree with you. I don't want to pass up on a Steve Slayton or MacFadden next season if Wolfe slips past us.

I agree I would try to move up to get Thomas, but I wouldn't trade away our first rounder next year. Having no first or second isn't too good considering we don't even know where we're going to end up picking and how good we're going to be this coming year.
 
If you believe Thomas is a franchise quality L.T. he is worth 2 no.1's plus we would get back a no.3 next year. It depends on wether you're a gambler or not. NO-RISK, NO REWARD. Smith & Kubes have shown they are willing to gamble. Are they ready to lay their careers on the line to protect their investment in Schaub?
 
Darrelle Revis. The guy is a great cover corner and would help on special teams. Pair him with Dunta and you get a great pair of talented young CBs, pair him with Mathis and our KR instantly becomes a serious threat. If the opposing team didn't have a kicker with a strong leg, they'd be better off kicking out of bounds.

You have to look ahead at what kind of quality LT's will be available next year before giving up next years 1st Round pick for Joe Thomas. Next year looks to be a great year for OT's and it is very likely the Texans will be able to draft someone as good or better than Joe Thomas next year when they pick in the 1st Round. If they aren't in a position to do so next year then they should trade up in that draft. I still would like to see them trade down this year to try and get back atleast 1 of the 2nd Rounders they gave up for Schaub. Perhaps the Texans can trade down and still pick up Levi Brown. That would be great. Then if it turns out that Brown is a better RT, as some people have said he will be, the Texans can draft Jake Long, Sam Baker, Kirk Barton, or Barry Richardson next year and they will finally be set at both OT positions. In addition, if they draft a Center like Samson Satele , in the 3rd Round, this year and let the rest of their Offensive Linemen compete for the 2 OG positions they should have a dominating O-Line for years. Then they can use the rest of their 2007 and 2008 picks to address other needs.
 
If we pick at #10 then the guy I've been wanting all along is Okoye, but he will probably be gone by then. I heard Washington worked him out and liked him alot. Since Branch didn't look so good at the Combine and the Ohio St. Pro-Day, Okoye will probably be the 1st D-lineman taken.

The reason I like him so much is because he has alot of upside, and they say he is fast off the ball and has a "high motor." If we got him, I'd look to ship TJ off to another team and maybe get another draft pick. Who knows, Capers may be willing to give us a 1st round pick for him! :laughjump:

I'm not really sold on Brown at #10, and if Landry and Okoye are gone, I wouldn't mind them trading down and getting Chris Houston or Nelson. Or, if they trade down far enough, maybe they could get Staley or Kalil. Both are projected to go late 1st round now. JMHO!
 
1st round - LaRon Landry: i've seen too many youtube videos of this guy to make me want someone else. hits like a tank, and keeps an eye out for the ball. def someone i'd love to see wearing deep steel blue next year.

6-7th round - Daniel Sepulveda: i'd be nice to have a little pressure taken off the D when the other team is pinned back in their own 20 all the time. heck, couldn't hurt to give Stanley some competition at the cost of a 6th round pick...
 
Joe Thomas or Ryan Kalil.

If a new Quarterback is worth 2 second-round draft picks, then Joe Thomas is worth a single additional #1 pick.

He is built for the ZBS and will excel in it, as well as being a leader on the line. However, if further gambling is not in the FO's mindset, then I think trading down to get Kalil is. Like Thomas, he is built for the ZBS and is a leader on the line. Either one would magnify the line's abilities.

He also said WR was their biggest need and might take 2 in the draft. So he is throwing everything out.
 
Joe Thomas or Carriker. Apart from being tremendously talented, they both are team players that any coach would want in the locker room.
 
I would like Okoye, and at #10 i think that would be a good value. I also wouldnt mind patrick willis if he was a BPA type of situation, but then we might have to jumble our linebacking corp. Maybe move ryans outside and have willis in the middle with greenwood on the other side?



Also, ive watched reggie nelson play and i like his ball hawking ability, and for being a skinny DB he can play pretty mean. I would also like Chris Houston because of his upside. He is probably one of the stronger corners out there and could really become a beast against the run if he develops well.


Im really excited about this draft, especially the first round because there arent too many oppurtunities to screw this up :shades:

Personally, I like effort and motor guys too, but you should always read draft reports with a little hmmmm.

I don't believe I've ever read a draft report with a guy with no weaknesses. Because a. there is usually something because they are human beings; b. draft folks are always hedging their bets.

You read old draft reports, years after a draft and they can be unintentionally hilarious.

Julius Peppers was a guy that was said to "take plays off." I guess that worked out ok.

The best way to evaluate talent is by watching them play, and having a trained eye. And even the people who have the ability to do that whiff a ton. Most us regular fans don't have much of a chance.
 
Jamaal Anderson because of his pass rushing abilities. Most people on the board seem to think that a better secondary is what the Texans need, but I feel that QB pressure can make a mediocre secondary good. The draft is very deep in FS's, get Gattis in the 3rd and Anderson in the 1st. We truley would have the "Twin Towers of Terror" at bookend.
 
1. Trade down - best option since we have so many holes and gave up a 2nd for Schaub
2. Peterson - Green and Dayne are not the long term solution and all would be benefitted by splitting carries, Peterson is a playmaker and true RB
3. Landry - Secondary is our biggest need, lacks playmakers and depth, Landry could play either safety spot and is a leader on the field
4. Revis - #2 CB is a definite soft spot on this team, Revis could prove to be better than Hall when all is said and done
5. Anderson - Would allow Mario to move to the strongside DE and Weaver inside to DT, creates depth at two positions, would complement Mario since Anderson is more of a speed rusher with more moves off the line
6. Nelson - A true FS which is the biggest need in the secondary, would take care of the deep middle and allow CBs to make plays underneath
 
Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State.

I'd love to trade back, pick up a 2nd rounder, and grab the best WR Ohio State had last year; Gonzalez.
I'm an Ohio State fan, so I've seen plenty of film.

and if we stay at 10, I'm hoping Landry somehow is there.
