New Spin on Swaub Deal

I look at it like this, we only moved down two spots in the first and have a gazillion holes to fill. This move down most likely won't hurt us. We gave up 2 second round picks. If Smith & Kubiak feel that Swaub is a good enough prospect to trade away a second round pick in 08, I'm ok with that. The net effect on the deal is we used our 2 pick this yr on Swaub and gave away next yrs for him as well. However, we only lost 1 second and 2 spots in this yrs first for Swaub. If Swaub is that good of a prospect, then we made a good deal. This is also a spot that we could trade down and possibly pick up someones 2nd rd.

Hypethetical Mock: Which helps our team more better?

Assuming David or Sage run the show
1. pick #8
2. Pick #39

or

1. pick #10
2. Matt Swaub

Possible trade down with us giving up our 5th rd pick
1. Pick #18
2. Matt Swaub
2. Pick #49

Just my odd ball way of justifying it...:) :poker:

i tend to view it as moving down to 10 means nothing to me...its not a big deal

we draft schaub in the 2nd round this year instead of drew stanton or kevin kolb.

we gave up our 2nd next year (a 2nd next season is similar to a 3rd this season...because they have to wait a year for it so it needs to be a round below....sort of..lol)

that pick next year is for the fact that we will be starting schaub on day 1 and not waiting 2 years for stanton/ kolb to be groomed. we get more immediate help because kubes thinks schaub is better than carr/sage for our team as a starter.

so we gave up a 2nd round pick next year and moved down 2 spots in the 1st for our "rookie" QB that already knows the system and has been around the nfl game for 3 years learning...for him to start right away and not have to wait to groom him.

i'm confused...lol wait yea thats what i think...i think.

That's basically what I said.

I don't have a problem trading down to 10 in this years draft. There is still going to be a very good player to draft at 10 or we can trade down a few more slots and pick up an extra pick in the 3rd round. Trading two 2nd round picks probably is taking away some potential depth or possibly a starter, but the Texans history with 2nd round picks isn't very good except for Demeco. Anyway, thats my 2 cents. I normally don't post, but this is to good to pass up..

well i guess i agree with you then, huh. lol great minds think a like. it's just confusing to read. not knocking you at all...i reread mine and was like hmm.

i don't know...i'm excited though....we finally can not see david carr hate threads all the time.

Agree! But the Texans are notorious for trading away 2nd rd picks, ie Hollins (bust-a rama), Pburnt, Babs! I'm sure if we would have kept the 2nd rd picks we could have added depth or a starter ( 3 2nd rdrs)! Now history repeats by giving up 2 more 2nd rd picks! Hope it won't bite this organization in the future! SIGH!:gun:

agreed, I also thought it was a hard read on my account, but hopefully you got my point.

I'm also trying to think of ways to trade carr...especially three way trades w/ oakland and another team. so its tough for me to be like okay so wait...i feel like someone just got screwed!? lol my brain hurts. i should stop.

The 2008 pick may seem steep and a sharp pill to swallow.

However, I keep hearing way too many folks tying up their panties in a wad over the potential probowl pick we could be losing with a second round pick. Last I checked we are batting 0.200 on second round picks lifetime

a) We still have a 1st round pick this year, which has much higher odds of landing a starter, stud, and probowl pick.

b) We will have 35-50 million to spend next year on FA instead of the paltry amount we have this year. That means we will be the New Englands and San Frans that are landing all the cream talent starters we has to pass on this year. If we sign 3 or 4 top FA next year....which we should...how badly will we be suffering in gaps and desperately need that second round pick then?
