Marshawn Lynch a Possibility

TFY:
The other news swirling around the workout is a potential trade early in round one to acquire Lynch.

Coming off his splendid performance at Cal's pro-day, coupled with the recent trade of Willis McGahee, the Buffalo Bills are now targeting Lynch with the 12th pick of the draft and have their hearts set on the Cal running back.

Yet the thinking is he may not last that long.

We can confirm that the Green Bay Packers, who hold the 16th pick, have put out feelers about the potential costs of trading into the top ten. If they can pull it off the Packers would use that selection to draft Lynch.

While many in the media give the impression that draft day trades happen exactly at that time, on draft day, the reality of the matter is much different. Most of the deals which go down in round one have been talked about weeks in advance and are only consummated on draft weekend.

That's exactly the process Green Bay is taking part in now.
it would appear that Lynch's stock is rising and rising. and with the talks of green bay possibly making a move up into the top 10 to secure a look at lynch, and various scouting resources now playing Lynch high on their prospect rankings, it's looking right now that it's not far out of the question to look at Marshawn Lynch as a possibility for the Houston Texans at #8. Peterson will most likely be long gone.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I haven't heard anything about him being on the Texans' radar.

Trading picks with Buffalo or Green Bay would be smart. Buffalo would have to give up their 3rd rounder, and we'd still likely be left with Landry/Nelson, Revis, Okoye/Branch, or maybe even Anderson falls. Plus with an extra third rounder we could pick up Rufus Alexander and an OT like Free or Harris.

If we trade with Green Bay, Chris Houston/Darrelle Revis, Reggie Nelson, Patrick Willis may all be available. Green Bay would have to give us their 2nd rounder. With 2 second round picks we could possibly end up with any combination of Meriweather, Ugoh/Staley, Wright, Pitcock or Rice/Meachem.

It'll be interesting to see what Smith and Kubiak decide to do.

Or a better scenario being we trade with Greenbay and move back to get extra picks and we take Reggie Nelson.

Ding ding ding ding!!! :)

I mean, if the worst that can happen is that we trade down for picks and still get someone the caliber of Nelson filling a position of need, the Texans are looking pretty.

That, or if we cannot negotiate a deal to our liking, just draft Landry if he is on the board.

I agree that would a great trade down. GB has been projected to take Lynch with their pick in every mock I have seen (logic is we take AP at 8 but not Lynch). If GB "had" to move up to get him, that would be great. But, moving up to 9 or even 10 would be a little cheaper - just enough to get ahead of Buffalo (who I think will take the same attitude our FO has - I know that at least one player I like will be there, so why deal?).

I have preached trade down every year. Now finding the partner is the problem. If Buffalo or Green Bay wants our pick and will give us another 1st day pick, I say do it.

This draft has 2 really good position players, 2 qbs with some questions but high upside, and I potential superstar RB with injury concerns. After that # 8 is not much different than #20 in this draft. I also am impressed by the number of guys I really like that will be available in the 3rd or 4th round. Guys like the following
DT Brandon Mebane 6' 1 1/8" 309 5.15 California
WR Jason Hill 6' 0 1/2" 204 4.36 Washington St
CB AJ Davis 5' 10" 193 4.4 North Carolina St
CB David Irons 5' 10 1/4" 190 4.44 Auburn
OT Doug Free 6’ 6 ¼” 324 5.19 Northern Illinois
WR David Clowney 6' 0 1/4" 188 4.36 Virginia Tech
S Sabby Piscitelli 6' 2 3/4" 224 4.47 Oregon St
S John Wendling 6' 1 1/4" 222 4.49 Wyoming
S Eric Weddle 5' 11 1/4" 203 4.49 Utah
WR Johnnie Lee Higgins 5' 11 3/8" 186 4.48 Texas-El Paso
DE Dan Bazuin 6' 2 7/8" 266 4.77 Central Michigan
S Josh Gattis 6' 1" 206 4.51 Wake Forest
LB Quincy Black 6' 1 5/8" 240 4.42 New Mexico
LB Justin Durant 6' 0 7/8" 230 4.52 Hampton
DT Antonio Johnson 6' 3" 310 5.15 Mississippi State
QB John Beck 6' 2 1/8" 215 4.75 BYU
OT Mike Otto 6' 5 1/8" 308 5.20 Purdue
LB Zak DeOssie 6' 4 5/8" 250 4.58 Brown
QB Kevin Kolb 6' 3 1/8" 218 4.85 Houston
If I can get 3 of these 4, I will dance a jig.
CB Travarous Bain 6' 0 1/4" 182 4.43 Hampton
OT Adam Koets 6' 5 1/8" 298 5.08 Oregon State
P Daniel Sepulveda 6' 2 7/8" 229 4.8 Baylor

That is 20 some odd guys that I would like to get more than just 2 of. If I pass on Landry, a superstar in my mind and trade down and get Willis and S Sabby Piscitelli, I am happy, if I can get more, than I am happier.

According to Megan Manfull, Lynch is not an option for the Texans. That and the fact that they signed Ahman Green. Maybe the Texans can get some picks from someone wanting to move up for him though.

Guys kastofsna never said the Texans where looking at Lynch, only that the other two teams are and that they are looking for a trade up to get him. Read the article please.

the title of the thrad is "Lynch a possiblity" so im pretty sure it was at least implied

also this:

it's looking right now that it's not far out of the question to look at Marshawn Lynch as a possibility for the Houston Texans at #8

the purpose of posting the article was to point out that lynch's stock may be higher than originally thought, so he may in fact be a top 10 possibility, and thus, a possibility for the texans.

I am still somewhat skeptical of Lynch, he may be a top 10 pick in THIS years draft but it would only be because this is a relatively shallow running back class. I think Lynch would be a reach at #8 and therefor the Texans wouldn't take him, but rather wait til next years draft to address any running back concerns. IMO, Green and Dayne (assuming the Texans resign Dayne) in our backfield will be the best running game the Texans have had in franchise history and look forward to seeing them in action.

Exactly .

Lynch and Levi Brown are one in the same.

Good prospects whose stock is rising simply because of the lack of talent at their respective positions.

Neither one is worth a top ten pick IMO.

I would love a trade down with either Buffalo or Green Bay.

Trade with Buffallo we get their 3rd rounder?

1. Patrick Willis..our SLB
2. Ryan Kalil..long term C (he prob. won't be there...so go BPA with DLINE or WR both have lots of talent at top of 2nd.)
3. Kevin Kolb..QB to groom (some dislike him..but I don't)
3. Marcus McCaulley...CB that has huge upside may slip because of poor senior season

That would be a great deal: we get Willis to go next to Demeco for all our existence. Maybe Kalil to lock down C(or a good WR opposite AJ, or DLINE help), Kolb (guy can hold a clipboard for 2 years a lot cheaper than spending a 1st on a qb to sit.), and McCaulley that could start easily by midseason?? (has all the potential just needs some proper coaching.)

OR a similar possibility:

1) R Nelson FS
2) C Davis WR LSU
3) D Hughes CB (Hughes seems most likely of the CBs to drop)
3) Troy Smith QB
4) Kareem Brown DT
5) Guard - Allerman or Marvin Henderson OT FSU
6) OLB, perhaps Bishop if he drops

I think our secondary would be solved. With LB, Greenwood and Clark are being paid FA bucks to start alongside Ryans. Brown, Maddux, Weaver and TJ should be enough to get it done in the middle. DE and OLB (Clark) would be the only real question marks on that D.

On O, Troy Smith could sit out this year as we find out if we can field a decent O Line or not as it is. WR would be set; solid RB core.

'08 should be a good draft for OT and RB and we can go 1st and 2nd round in those 2 positions. Maybe a C in the 3rd. OLB in FA (Lance Briggs anyone? We'll be able to afford him next year).

In '09 (yes 09) we can draft the stud pass rushing DE (and release Weaver) and a DT in the second. A TE in the 3rd.

We'd be competitive in 08 but we'd be stacked in 09.

If trading down is what matters the most to the Texans then why trade down from 8 to 16 (Packers) when you can trade down with Bills and go from 8 to 12th and pick up just as many draft picks.

After trading their RB, Bills are just as desperate to draft elite level RB and they are looking at Lynch for 12th spot.

I personally feel if AP is gone, then Texans should trade down few spot and pick up as many draft picks as possible. Then I would prefer that Texans should again trade down from 12th spot to possibly in late teens to pick up few more draft picks on day 1.

We have too many holes and trading twice in round 1 would make sense for Texans. We can possibly pick up few more round 2 and round 3 draft picks to fill some of the holes. Let's face it, we are not going to make the playoff next year. This will be very similar to what Seattle did when Mike Holmgren took over. They had high draft picks and traded twice in round 1 and walked away with something like 13 or 14 draft picks to fill all the holes.

I mentioned Green BAy because Green Bay was mentioned in the original post. And why do you think we would get the same amount of picks for the 12 and 16 picks? According to the value chart moving from 12 to 8 is worth a 3rd rounder but moving from 16 to 8 is worth either a 2nd or a 3rd and a 4th. So you can get more picks trading back to 16. And if the talent is mostly equal between 8 and 20 like most people feel that it is trading down twice is not a likely scenario. No one trades up unless they have a need like Buffalo and Green Bay

Lynch did drills for the teams at his pro day but stood on the numbers from the combine.

40--4.46 s
20--2.6 s
10--1.53 s
60 shuttle--11.8 s
20 shuttle--4.58 s
vertical--35.5 in
three cone--7.05 s
broad jump--10' 5"
225 lbs--20 reps

And once again I stand corrected. I do not see the Texans taking Lynch, and I hope they don't.

If you want to use Buffalo as a judge of talent, remember they reached on McCargo in the 1st which allowed us to take Ryans in the 2nd. Also do not believe the teams that say that like someone right now. The guys they talk about, are almost never the guys they draft.

Peterson in the 1st yes, anyone else just say no. Take someone like Landry or trade down and get more picks, but please do not take Lynch at #8.

IMO, Green and Dayne (assuming the Texans resign Dayne) in our backfield will be the best running game the Texans have had in franchise history and look forward to seeing them in action.

Add Taylor to those two as a change of pace and you have a nice backfield. Green and Dayne know how to block and using them sparingly should allow them to get thru the season.

Yeah but she's got Jordan Black as a major upgrade. the red flares should of went up with that one. I've got her in my "take it with a grain of salt " pile now. It's a big pile.

Because the first part of the trade down equation, the most important part, is finding someone willing to give up picks at fair market value to do it. Now by this report, their are two willing partners. Before we hold anybody up, lets just be glad that that option is now...maybe, in play. Agreed that would make the most sense, move down with the guy with the highest position. But, you don't know for sure that Green Bay, if they love the guy and feels he's the key for Farve's success, aren't willing to sweeten the pot? Just speculation. I'm I the only one who looks at this report and sees an infusion of tallent on the roster ? Or...we want Marshawn Lynch...irregardless of the offers the Texan's recieve at the eight pick ?

Also, no assurace that Minnesota won't get the same freelers. See what I mean ? Kind of a tight rope.
