For the record,
Salisbury and Stink BOTH predicted that David Carr would be vastly improved and that he was the right man for the Texans QB job...during an NFL Live show as training camp started (in response to the question: "Did the Texans make a mistake on passing on VY?"
When you go out on a limb, like Salisbury did, and the branch gets sawn off while you're on it...then you get the right to say negative things (if Salisbury DOES say negative things, btw).
I don't like the guy much, either. I think he has anger issues and can be borderline pompous at times. But what they say is not a reflection of what they know...it's an indication that they are observant like all of us are.
Nobody can predict what's going ot happen with a high degree of success. That's why I like the "Time to get your story straight..." commercials: It's funny because nobody knows what will happen until it really happens, and that's the fun of sports IMO. But we all sit around prognosticating and predicting as if we KNOW what will happen.
Our grade should be a B- for going from 2-14 to 6-10 in one year under a new head coach, a new GM, pulling off perhaps the best overall draft by any NFL team which included the DROY in LB DeMeco Ryans and a TE Owen Daniels who was an instant catalyst to the passing game, suffering a season-ending injury to our LT Charles Spencer, trying to run the ball with no legitimate star running back and yet STILL able to pull off a few games where we ran the ball down the throats of our opponents, a fairly tough schedule and some narrow defeats to the Giants, Titans (twice) which could have easily become victories pushing us to 9-7, and throw in the amazing underdog victory vs. the Colts with a follow-up win vs. the Browns to cap off the season. All of that, IMO, says that this team improved enough to be graded at least a low B.
A lot of people here on this board are bringing up Vince Young, linking highlight reels of VY, and just generally getting down (whether on purpose, or by accident) on our team for passing on Reggie and/or Vince.
I have to admit that I watched the youtube link in this thread, and I thought, "Man, we coulda' had THAT on our team..." And then I wrote my assessment (above) and I think I'm happy with what we did and what we have. I think we'll have another strong draft, I think we'll have a decent free agency season, and there's no telling what Mario is going to do now that he's over the hype war and the rookie season where it takes time to adjust. I would love to see us add another stud DL to pair up with Mario...can you imagine what teams will go through, gameplanning for our defense each week?
Butg regardless of hwo we pick at no. 8, it'll be a star-quality player. And from what I've seen thus far, Kubiak can squeeze blood out of a turnip in the late rounds of the draft.
B- is my grade.
