andy reid: character guy, fine father

Very sad to report that NBC10 TV reported tonight that Andy Reid's oldest son was high on heroin at the time of the auto accident.

That's ashame. Sadly it's not uncommon for children of Sports coaches that always travel and work long hours to be heavy into drugs.

and partents can only lead there kids to a certain point, once they get older can't treat them like there 5 years old anymore, just gotta let go and let them learn from there mistakes,

I think this speaks to the enormous amount of hours these men are away from their families. Looking at Dungy's son last year,it just shows why some coaches get out when their kids hit a certain age.

Kids + money + free time + the idea their Dad can bail them out of serious consequences usually equals trouble. Some are responsible enough not to do stupid stuff but the ones that aren't have the means to get into serious trouble with all the money and free time.

It's always better to learn from someone else's mistakes. I try not to be too critical of parents when their adult children make poor choices because there are too many situaitons that parents have been excellent in their parenting skills, yet the child, of his/her own free will, will still choose to do things totally opposite of their home environment.

Interestingly enough, sometimes lousy parents have children to go on and do great things while parents that are true role models have children whose behavior would never reflect the lifestyle that they came from. Sometimes PK's have been notorious for defying anything remotely close to right.

I think when someone is in the 21-23 range (as in this case) there can't be any blaming of the parents anymore. All parents may make a couple mistakes that negatively affect their children, but once someone is an adult its time to step up and quit making excuses. I've got a friend whose parents are an HPD cop and (i think) a nurse, yet he cant be trusted with any amount of alcohol. It shouldn't be hard for someone 18+ to figure out that doing heroin/driving recklessly/pointing guns at people is going to cause problems in their life and they're the only ones that can really fix them.
