Why isn't Demeco in the Pro-bowl?

Lewis is out and guess who's taking his place, Bart Scott. Now I'm sorry, but I just don't get it. Demeco was named the reserve MLB to the pro-bowl and 2 MLB's are out. Who is Scott? Lewis' teamate, Baltimore plays a 3-4 so if they played a 4-3 Scott would be Lewis' back-up. This really pisses me off. Why is Demeco named the reserve if somebody else can just hop over him and be in the pro-bowl. Demeco should be there he led the league in solo tackles and was in the top 3 for overall tackles. Can someone explain to me how that makes sense or in any way shape or form is fair?

Yea at least one more will drop out therefore putting Demeco in it...It will be fun to see him go against the best of the best ;)

(1) the texans didn't generate national coverage with their performance... hardly anyone around the country saw him play.
(2) if someone saw the texans play, they were too busy critiquing mario to notice the same guy ball hawking
(3) when mario got his first sack, everyone failed to mention the rookie that whiffed and froze the qb
(4) he is a rookie... consider the probowl voting to have a 2-3 year lag
(5) the texans did generate a lot of plays on defense, so the amount of opportunities that he got to tackle late in the game when teams ran was probably higher than the average
(6) tackling stats can be overrated --- which we all like to say about Mario's performance --- and since point 1 above holds true, no one really saw his true playmaking abilities.

Bart Scott is an OLB, not a MLB (the Ravens play a mix between 3-4 and 4-3), so I dont think he should be taking a MLB ahead of Ryans. Yet again, the Pro Bowl proves to be a popularity contest.

I could be wrong, but I dont think they worry about OLB and MLB when putting in reserves. Obviously Ray Lewis and Bart Scott couldnt play the same position (the Ravens used alot more 4-3 than 3-4 last season) so regardless if a OLB or MLB drops out, Demeco should be next in line.

I'm being selfish but i'de rather not see him go. I think the risk of injury for any player is to great. The pro bowl has always scared me. Let him rest.

Look, its Demeco's agent! :stirpot:

Seriously man, whats the matter with you? Have you even watched Bart Scott play? Obviously not. The guy had an incredible season. He was arguably their best linebacker last season.

Why all the hate for Scott? He was a monster this year racking up 100+ tackles, 10 sacks, and 2 picks

Not to mention a bunch of tackles for loss

Why isn't Demeco in the Probowl??? B/C we didn't get him enough votes. :-( I'm sure he'll make his share of Probowls in the future.

Hopefully the Texans can get some steals like him the draft again, this year.

Why would they want to see him play. It seems like everyone is intereted in stats anyway. Wasnt he the leading tackler in the league or one of them, as a rookie thats pretty damn good.Ray Lewis didnt do that, nor merriman.

On a defense stacked with incredible talent: Ngata, Suggs, Thomas, Lewis, Reed, McAllister, etc. Meco put up very comparable numbers without anything resembelling the Ravens supporting cast. Yes, Scott had an incredible season, and he should have been ahead of Lewis in my opinion, but I think Meco should be placed ahead of him for MLB position in light of his achievments on a D with about 3 noteworthy talents.

I can't remember who siad it on ESPN, but when they were talking about Demeco getting any recognition, they said it straight out, even though he was one of the best, he wouldn't get his props because he wasn't a "sexy" name and he played for the Texans. Its crap, but its the way of the world. If Ryans had played for a team on the national scale ala Steelers, Cowboys, or Pats, etc. He may have been mentioned. Let's face it guys, and gals, our team has a lot to prove. We need to happy with the fact that we got AJ in this year.

Dude our defense stinks and Ryans is like the only good linebacker we have. Its not that hard to make tackles when you have 2 idiots right next to you. Plus the Ravens had the best defense last year. It would be stupid not to invite the ILB of the best defense to the pro bowl. And trust me it cant be that easy to make so many plays with Lewis, Suggs, Ngata, Pryce, Thomas etc. right next to you.

You know, Greenwood had 109 tackles, playing right next to DeMeco and quietly had a nice season. Ryans wasn't surrounded by trash.

It's good, for sure. Could you imagine this defense if he couldn't tackle. All I am saying is that given the Houston defense was on the field more than not, he will have a greater opportunity to make tackles since the other offense is running more plays. Lewis and Merriman had a much better supporting defense and therefore didn't have to make every tackle.

I think that tackling stats although helpful, is also not necessarily the best indication of playmaking abilities and that doesn't translate to stats. If they saw him play, they would see that his stats as a laeding tackler, didn't show some of the great things he did on defense in terms of pressuring the qb, getting Mario a couple sacks, etc.

Case in point, Greenwood makes tackles, but rarely is involved in creating turnovers from strippig the ball, recovering a ball, making an interception... look at his career and his best 'stats' are when he plays with a great MLB (Thomas and Ryans) and still created virtually no sacks or turnovers.

Demeco Ryans found the ball and got to it every play. Which is good in a linebacker.

Finding the ball, and coming up with the ball, is what a lot of those other linebackers did, and ryans didn't do it as much.

Yes Ryans was rookie of the year and our best defensive player, but he didn't make enough big plays to make the pro bowl. No knock of demeco, just once he creates the turnovers also, thats when he will be going to hawaii.

By the same token, stripping the football isn't just a individual concept. A one on one tackle to strip the ball is difficult... but in a situation when there are three guys hitting someone at once, it is a little tougher to hang on to the ball.

The same with INTs... takes some pressure to create bad passing situations and hurried throws into mis-read coverage. So it is understandable that deMeco would be behind in this category given the other talent... not a knock on him... still by far the MVp of the Texans this year and probably years to come. he'll get his due, and to be honest, probably better that people don't focus on him. best kept secret in the NFL :) That won't slip by the coaching staffs, but fun to think that they might underestimate his talents.

If everyone on our defense is terrible, teams can focus on blocking Ryans, making it that much harder for him to make a play, like AJ on offense. As a linebacker you need linemen to keep O-Linemen off of you and allow you to make the tackle, thats significantly easier when you have Ngata, Pryce and Suggs on the D-line instead of Dalton and Maddox.
