If You Were Andre Johnson Would You Stay Or Go ?

I know we all want AJ to stay in a Texans uniform, take the fan aspect out of this and put yourself in his shoes, what would you do. Why would you stay or why would you go.

Stay...I am settled in...I am about to get a new QB...I just got a new offensive minded coach...I just got a veteran mentor. I am staying if I am AJ.

It all depends,if he goes to another team and has as many dropped balls as the second half of this season. If that were the case another QB might not keep looking his way.

I seriously doubt AJ is worried about going to the probowl. He's playing for pride.

If I were AJ, I'd be mad as hell when they franchise me....... because that is the only way we will keep him here in Houston.

& when he is slapped with the Franchise tag, I hope he holds out, and not participate in OTAs, TC, and the preseason unless they get him a QB.

If I was Dre I'd say trade me. He only has so many good years in him. I don't see the team fixing QB, o-line, and play calling problems any time soon. This is a slow moving organization; they need a culture change.

His contract probably has performance incentives - how many $100Ks do you think he's lost in this offense the past couple of years.

For AJ, it probably depends on his options and the money involved.

I think he is locked up for 3 more years anyway, so he is pretty much stuck with zero leverage.

Id stay. The money to stay will be good, the new scheme uses me alot, and the city has been good to me.

AJ is not T.O. He's staying. If he tries the FA market, he'll regret going to the Redskins.

Leverage or not, he could force a trade. It happens.

As the front office says every time they cut a player, "football is a business". Maybe Dre will see it that way and try to do what is good for him rather than the team. Almost any team he went to would be an upgrade.

I don't know how "settled in" he is. A lot of players treat their work cities as a temporary residence.

He will stay if Carr leaves and Sage starts :yahoo:

He will leave if Carr returns as the 'franchise' QB next year :hides:

A couple of thoughts:

1. Andre's the reason Sage looks as good as he does. He made some acrobatic catches in the Titans game. If Sage got the job, it seems like he and AJ already have chemistry.

2. Where does all this speculation come from about AJ wanting a trade anyway?

AJ has a player option this year so he could opt out of his contract this offseason...that' plenty of leaverage!

I don't think AJ has an option like Carr had for his.

That issue has been discussed at great lengths on this board and some very reputable people have stated his deal is for 7 years straight up.

Apparently, AJ didn't have a big time agent do his deal.

What is your source? Maybe you are right...

If i was AJ, Id leave and go to Denver...:stirpot: Rod Smith would be gone. Cutler would have Jevan Walker on one side and AJ on the other...:shades:
DEEP THREATS!!:brickwall

Hey maybe AJ would stay if we bring in Ken Dorsey....

I think Kubes gave a season to some of the guys for evaluation. Remember, everyone thought this was an up and comer two seasons back before the flood. Much of the blame was falling on the coaching staff.

Now that he's seen the disaster this team culture is, he will clean house. I say just five players will make a huge difference next season. A safety, a corner, a RT, a QB (there, I said it) and a RB will go long ways next year.
That's not all, of course. I just think those five positions would be an enormous upgrade.

Oh, yeah. Andre stays, in my opinion.

Andre's uncle is his agent. He seems an honorable man - he stated publicly his main goal was to get a fair contract and make sure Andre was in camp. I think both criteria were met and he signed.

Its going to be really hard to sell the franchise to AJ especially if carr is still undercenter i would say if AJ leaves he is going to go play with the Dolphins a miami guy. i really hope we can keep him he is one of the bright young stars in this league and i would hate to lose AJ because of and idiotic front office hating to admit they drafted the second coming of heat shuler.:stirpot:

I really, really hope AJ stays. He's my favorite player and best player on the team. If I was Andre though, I'd leave if Carr was gonna be QB again, but I think he'll stay.

If they play like they have this year who is going to want to stay. Add in DROB to that mix just listen to his post game quotes. This could get ugly one I don't think that good free agents would want to come here not next year anyway lets face it we are going to have to deal with what we have and what we do in the draft and just cross our fingers that they improve ALOT. But to be honest I do not know and do not even want to think about it.

a.J. is under contract. It has to be very frustrating for him with the teams down fall. I'm not worried about him I think our tag guy is going to be Robinson. Both these guys are going to lose millions if they resign with this club. TBS, A.J. is signed through '08 with the option in '09. Some might of started this fire by suggesting that A.J. as a high(est) tallent on the club would bring a couple of high picks if we delt him...now . Not advocating that...but the reality of the team is they ain't going anywhere next year. Even with a good draft, they are going to struggle again next year. In either scenario. New QB or David, they ain't going to make the run in '07. Do you deal the guy ? I dunno just putting it out there. If you could pick up a pair of ones for the guy, with this clubs tallent level do we do it ? If he brought a pair of ones, would you be tempted ?

the best thing aj has here is the low key media environment. imo he would really hate being in a big market. if i were him i would go wherever a decent qb could be found.

What would you guys expect in return? Wow I just looked up Johnson is still only 25. He's better than Deion Branch. I'd give up the Saints 1st round draft pick for Andre about #27 overall

Throw in Reggie Bush and you got a deal. He should be here anyway.

We need to trade him and take Calvin Johnson! This Johnson drops to many passes IMO

AJ original contract is for 7 years with player option this year or next.

AJ, and DRob are more about winning. yes money plays a role but winning is something very important to them. In 5 years Texans haven't proven to be a winning organization for what ever reason. I believe this off season is by far the most important off season in history of the organization. Allot of tough decisions will be made this off season. We will know allot about the Texans once the free agency period ends. Every players on the roster will also be watching the free agency period very carefully this year.

AJ does have a couple of years left on his current contract, but if I'm Andre, and the Texans don't start winning some games and becoming more competitive,,,,,,I'm testing the FA market.

Honestly AJ will stay and he will be happy that Carr is his QB. Both times AJ made the Pro Bowl it was not some other QB throwing him all those balls. Hell if he was in some other places he may not i.e. Detroit think of what would have become of him. AJ likes this city, he is a fan of Carr, and he is a proud man. That all equals out to him staying and wanting to build a winner right here...

If I was AJ I would have to realize I will be tagged the franchise player, so I would try and make Houston my 1 team for my career. There are alot of changes coming, he is now a 2x pro bowler, and his future here is as good as ever. Might be on a bad team, but those days will end. How many other guys this season are going in the AFC for WR. Harrison, Wayne, and Chad Johnson..All 3 of them are on great offensive teams, AJ is not, and his #'s are as good if not better than those guys. Stay here is what I would do, be the face of the team, like Bagwell, Biggio, Hakeem...

The Texans talk tradition, well Andre will be the tradtion the Texans speak of.

I don't think anyone outside of A.J's close circle of friends and family can accurately describe his feelings about staying in Houston....I think it's hard to judge a proffesional athlete's true feelings when we are judging them at a distance....Sometimes people we know do strange things....

I hope A.J stays, and from what I've observed he seems to be a fairly loyal guy and I hope he doesn't want to leave....but at the same time, I wouldn't put it past him....

I would hate to see Andre go someplace else...He's too valuable to this team...I agree, He has a chance to make a statement staying on this team...

Nobody knows Carr sucks more than AJ...If AJ left, it would be absolutely devestating...I would love to know his true opinion on the whole *fix Carr* scenario, but he is too much of a pro to say that in public...Andre is a class act, a true professional in my opinion.

Almost 100 catches and I can recall many catches that I believe he should have made too...I know he's sick of losing, we all are, but it says a lot about his character to make it to the probowl.
