Forget drafting a QB, trade for Matt Schaub

There is probably not a QB in the 2007 draft who is as accomplished as Matt Schaub. He has backed up Michael Vick for last three years and has done well in relief. Schaub will be a restricted free agent next year and Atlanta will tender him the highest offer. That way they will get a first and third pick if anyone else signs him.

Maximizing your talent is the name...football is the game....

If the Falcons could get him to do it, how ridiculous would Vick be as an "offensive weapon" with Schaub as the QB.....

That is the most profound thing I have read today!

the bad thing about matt schaub is that he hasnt played to many games, and i know when he was replacing mike vick he did good, but i dunno if im sold on matt schaub

Trade for Matt Schaub is a bad idea unless you feel like getting rid of our 1st rounder. They were trying to trade him last year and would accept nothing less than a 1st (Minnesota offered a 2nd).

And how far back do you want to set the team? This is a team that needs in no order: OLT?(depending on Spencer), OC, FB, RB, future WR2, DT, DT, OLB, OLB, CB2, FS, and an upgrade at QB plus other positions. You cannot fill all these spots in 1 year, and you want to give up 2 picks that could fill 2 of the spots we must have to be a middle of the road team.

Schaub is good no doubts, but is he that much of an upgrade that you give up 2 starters for him? Live with Carr or trade him and live with Sage for one year, but do not give up 2 future starters on a team that needs just about everything. :twocents:

Isn't Schaub a free agent after this year? I think he is, and thats why Atlanta was trying to trade him so badly.

But I could be wrong.

Well lets go after Farve.

Never get him.

He'll probably retire anyway.

He'd get killed behind our O-line....LITERALLY.

If he managed to live long enough to see a receiver get downfield, he'd throw more interceptions in one game than Carr has this year.

He'd do a great job of LEADING our team to ANOTHER QB.

Only good part is that Carr would beat him out and it would raise Carr's confidence to an all-time, unbelievably unreal level....which might be a bad thing after all.

Vick hating is out of control.

Fact:He's not a good guy.
Fact:He has thrown for 15 TD's and only 9 INTs.
Fact:He has a horrible completion percentage.
Fact:He throws almost as many TD's per attempt (1/20) as Peyton (1/18).
Fact:He's on pace to run for 1200+ yds at 9 ypc.
Fact:He's run for 50 1st downs (4+ per game). LT has run for 61 (5+ per game)
Fact:He has 11 runs of 20+yds. LT has 10 runs of 20+ yards.
Fact:He's been plagued by horrible drops on at least 3 TD passes.
Fact: He has a ridiculous arm and can throw a great ball.
Fact: He lacks touch, contributes to poor rythmn with receivers/drops.
Fact: He lacks vision due to his height.
Fact: He doesn't spend enough time with his receivers in the offseason.

So he's nearly as efficient at getting the ball in the endzone as Peyton. He's nearly as effective moving the chains as LT (moreso on a per attempt basis) and more of a big play threat AND his running opens up the run game for his backs.

Opinion:If you were building a franchise around a QB tomorrow, Vick would go after Manning, Brady, Palmer, Brees and VY, but ahead of McNabb (age/injuries), Leinart, and Rivers.

Were is David Carr in this list. Oh wait dont anwser that.

Trade back 5 to 10 spots in the first round and pickup a extra second round pick. Trade a second round pick and next years third or second for matt schaub.

Round 1 Laron Landry
Round 2 Rufus Alexander
Round 3 oline.

Time to repeat myself:

WHY TRADE FOR SCHAUB WHEN HE'LL BE A F'IN FREE AGENT

He signed a three year deal before teh 04 season which makes him a free this offseason. It'll come down to money not draft picks.

http://www.nfl.com/teams/story/ATL/7532410

After more research he's a RFA, so we may have to aprt with a draft pick if we want him; and it'll depend on what level the Falcons put him at.

My question is, since I dount Schaub we'll re-sing with teh Falcons oesn't he become a UFA then?

No matter what we do giving up draft picks IS NOT an option. There are to many good athletes to choose from. Not once in a lifetimes as some were considered last year, but solid players.

in your dreams pal.

Vick's 26, McNabb's 30, coming off an ACL tear, wearing down every year, etc. I love Donovan, but he'll be 32 by the time he's 100% again.

Rivers is 25 (in 3 days), and has had a great season with the best tight end, and RB (of all time?) on his team.

Leinart is 23, has Boldin and Fitz, yet hasn't shown the immediate polish many expected. Leinart is the most arguable of this bunch, I chose Vick because I think a QB needs to be more dynamic in this era.

Vick will be chronically overhyped by fools and underrated by experts. The jury is still out on whether he's talented enough to be a "winner" in spite of his character issues.

leinart has shown tons of polish. more than a lot of veterans. don't get me started with rivers. he's an MVP candidate.

Let me try this again, Matt Schaub will be a RESTRICTED FREE AGENT. Atlanta will tender him the highest offer. AS a RFA Schaub can sign with another team. If he does, because he was offered the highest tender, the signing team must compensate Atlanta with their 1st and 3rd Round picks. Any questions?

I was under the impression that RFA are nor forced to sign the offer sheet, and if Schaub does not, does he not then become a UFA?

Schaub wants to start and knows that there are teams out there willing to give him a shot as their starting QB, so why stay in Atlanta?

Actually your wrong smart guy the team can negotiate a trade. It doesnt have to be a first and third if atlanta agrees to the trade.

I see this happening. Schaub is good, but it's not like he came in and put up Billy Volek numbers when he got his shot. He lit up New England and played well against Carolina. I think Schaub is a stud, but I think they'd be willing to deal him for a high #2 and #3 or a #1. They need a receiver and DB's. They are a few pieces away from being a championship caliber team. They certainly would deal Schaub if it meant they got a crack at Calvin Johnson.

Not sure Schaub is better than Brady Quinn.

schaub is a franchise QB waiting to happen. would've been a first round pick if not for an injury his senior season. the bills could have him over j.p. losman.

I've never watched this guy, but Terry Bradshaw is in love with him. He's been calling for him to start over Vick for weeks.

I think Vick is more likely, maybe easier, to be traded this offseason. I know either would make the Pro Bowl if they played for Houston. Don't want to give up a first, though, we need too much help on the defensive side of the ball.

On a side note, JDizzle's avatar rules.

No he does not become a UFA. All ATL has to do is make an offer. If they tender the maximum ATL is entitled to a team's 1st & 3rd RD pick as compensation if Schaub signs with another team.

"Dr. Toro: I think Schaub is a stud, but I think they'd be willing to deal him for a high #2 and #3 or a #1."

Why take less if you have a 1st and 3rd in the bag. It maybe something they consider in August but they also like Schaub as an insurance policy should anything happen to Vick.

"Bubbajwp: Actually your wrong smart guy the team can negotiate a trade. It doesnt have to be a first and third if atlanta agrees to the trade."

True, but why would ATL want to accept anything less than a 1st and 3rd? You would also have to get Schaub to agree to a new contract.

"Mexican_Texan: I think Vick is more likely, maybe easier, to be traded this offseason."

This doubtful as it would cost ATL $22 million against the cap in dead money.

Brady Quinn can't hold Schaub's jock.

it'd be tough for me to choose between schaub and quinn. both are going to be great. but i guess if you need to win pronto, you make the move for schaub.

Because not many teams if any will be willing to give a first and third for him.
