Not just with the Texans but the NFL in general. I think I realized one thing today. I am cursed as a football fan. Growing up I always thought it was the "curse of the Oilers" but now I realize the football gods have cursed me for some reason.

I don't need to go into all the painful Oiler choke jobs over the years, many of us here know all about those. The team leaves Houston, I start hating them, feeling betrayed and wanting them to lose every game and choke for their new fans like they did for me and what do I get? The Music City Miracle and a trip to the Super Bowl as a team I now hate.

Then I get the Texans, well what do I need to say there. Five years into this my fate as a football fan hasn't changed. This organization has made several moves over the years that I have disagreed with and somehow this "just a dumb fan" has been right more often than those in charge of the Texans. Committing to David Carr just seem the last in one of many. Say what you want about Carr, the guy isn't a winner, I don't care about what his stats say. All I see in his stats are L's. He doesn't make those better around him and mark my words ... he will NEVER be a winner here.

It also makes me sick how some other teams that were worse than us just a few seasons ago are now playing at playoff level which shows me this team has had adequate time to build a competive team yet the Texans are still the joke of the NFL.

During the offseason I was for drafting Vince Young because of his ability to win, lead, and make others around him better. I don't feel David Carr has any of those qualities. Of course the Texans weren't going to do that because they already committed to keeping Carr so of course my worse nightmare comes to fruition by him being drafted by Bud. I just prayed that all those Aggies and other VY haters would be right about him being the next Kordell Stewart or not being able to play at the NFL level. One could only hope since Bud picked him up.

Those of you that know me know that I also follow the Giants (used to live in NY). So after watching the Texans go down in typical Texans fashion I decide to head off to a sports bar to watch the Giants vs Titans game. The Giants controlled the first half and lead 21-0. The Titans were looking like the Oilers. However this is when Vince decided to go Rose Bowl on them. Guess what folks? All those things Vince did in college somehow is working in the NFL. Unfortunately my gut was right about this guy. He just went out there started pumping his chest making believers out of his team mates and took them to another level. A team that isn't much more talented than the Texans. An offensive line that isn't much better than the Texans. Yes, the Giants choked, Eli started sucking, but VY pulled that game out of his a** despite the lack of talent on his team and unless you watched it you won't get that. You won't see on the ESPN highlights how he was pumping up his teammates and making believers out of them. This guy is a winner and it pains me to no end that we could have had him, and even worse he is now doing it in a Titans uniform. What's even scarier is he is doing it just a few games into career. Even I didn't think he would be effective at least for a couple of years.

I don't think I can be subjected to this year and and year out. I think it is taking a toll on my health. I think I need to seek therapy and look for another hobby. 30 something years of this has been too much. :gun:

P.S. Save the "don't let the door hit you in the a**" comments. It's too late, that door has already hit me in the a**, knocked me over the head, and kicked me in the nuts.

Agent Hookem, your mission is to infiltrate an AFC South team and become a fan.

Vince was playing that game with Rose Bowl colored glasses. He was simply awesome in the 4th quarter. I did not want him then and still happy we did not take him. Hopefully down the road he will come here when he demonstrates he can do these things consistently at this level. That 4th and 10 run was something.

why dont you just start following the titans- you'll be re-united with your leader who'll lead ye to victory despite you, due to his leadership and intangibles??

Agent Hookem, your mission is to infiltrate an AFC South team and become a fan.

Yeah, maybe I can become a Cowboys fan so I can take the curse to them. However, it wouldn't work because I really couldn't be a Cowboys fan. I don't think the curse would work if it is faked.

No, I don't think even VY can overcome the curse of me. It's older than he is.

Unfortunately my gut was right about this guy.

Gut ain't got nothing to do with this. You'd have to be a stubborn fool not to see the kid was special. UT was winning when he was a sophomore. He was a big part of that. But he still went out, and worked on his game. To get better.

He's the best at what he does, and still strives to get better...... that's pretty much what you're looking for in a player.

But.... please don't leave the NFL like this.

why don't you bring some of your charm to the Raiders, the Titans, the Pats, the Colts, & the Browns....... in that order.

what about that 4th and goal run earlier??? sorry but i believe luck/circumstance does play a role in the nfl sometimes and in some situations you're lucky and you make the play and other times you dont..

il wait another while before i 'believe'

what about that 4th and goal run earlier???

You mean the play where Young failed? He put that behind him and led the team to a win.

When the Texans fail on a big play or two they generally just quit.

Why try to put down other teams just because we lose so much?

Did you watch the game?

yeah i was flicking over and back- you get 2 games over here and obviously the pats-bears was more attractive (and competitive) throughout but as the titans started getting closer i flicked over more frequently...

yeah the 1 he failed-where was his leadership there??...if he hadnt gotten lucky later (giants easing up,pacman's pick and kiwi) that wouldve cost them the game.... see what im getting at-chance etc plays a part in the nfl aswell... the same way we've had bad luck in games- cooks fumbles, holding penalties on big plays come to mind- does that mean carr's not a leader or just unlucky at times

I honestly believe that if you watched the whole 4th quarter you would not be taking the line you are. It should be one of the NFL replay games, you will see what we all are saying. The IT factor was out and all the other 10 players had it on offense, because #10 was feeding them with it.

that's not luck. It happens in everygame. That's why big play potential is so important.

Watch the Colts play, they screw up so many times a game, you never hear about this guy dropping a pass, or that guy dropping a pass. Same for the Patriots..... That's why those guys can still have winning seasons even though they've given up more INTs than we do. They make the big plays(their completion percentage is down, but their yards per completion is up), & they make more touch downs.

The way we are playing, every mistake is thouroughly examined, because we don't make enough big plays.

Two things: After that late hit on Vince out of bounds and Vince got up and got in the guys face, I knew it was over.

hint to all that play Vince: don't piss him off

Another thing: Listening to the radio on the way back, one of our wide receivers was asked about Vince's ability to lead and he said, "during the 4th quarter Vince told us, 'if you don't want to win, then get out of the huddle' "

I thought that was awesome.

BTW, i was at the game. It was incredible.

i agree but you hear manning isnt a 'leader', hes a 'choker' etc which i dont believe - he either is unlucky, other players dont play well etc when they've lost in the playoffs..which is what my point is- you cant pin a victory or loss to one player like many are doing with carr, VY, brady etc- who all contribute significantly alrite but still have to also rely on luck, other players also...

anyway VY had a great game today but they've lost close games with him at qb and he's failed in some clutch situations also like every1 else...and its only a few weeks ago the titans were being blown out with VY at the helm while the DC texans were beating the jags(and fought back v the bills last week) (for all the people that are saying 'oohh look the texans quit whereas VY's titans fought back')

^
(sorry if that wasnt posted in this VY thread it was in 1 of them but i cant remember which 1)

but you are forgetting that we all agreed that Vince has less talent around him now than he did at UT.

& a lot of guys were saying Vince needs to sit on the bench for two years, then get into games in his third, then actually start to play in his 4th year.

So what if he failed 4 games ago..... he's a rookie. The guy has learned in 4 games what some are still learning in their 5th year.

ammm no VY has more talent now than he had at texas obviously since they're all NFL players...the competition is better though..

then i guess alot of people were wrong

what is it exactly he learned?

Let's not go there..... I'm trying very hard not to say anything bad about him..

He did throw for over 300 yards today..... and 1 touchdown though.

On 2nd & 20 you don't throw a 4 yard dump off. If that means you have to scramble around a little bit, and wait for someone to get open, then you scramble around for a little bit, and wait for someone to get open.

Or... when you've got a CB & a Safety on the inside of your reciever, you throw the ball to the outside of your reciever.

Or.... when you throw the fade, you throw it to the pilon at the back of the endzone, and not to the one in front of the endzone..... well, I haven't seen Vince do that, yet....

really?? ive seen him make some stupid decisions/bad throws.. wonder how you missed that??

also the bold bit-

its not that easy in real football.. and if lets say hes somehow then sacked behind our incredible o-line im sure thay'd be plenty of'carr has 0 pocket awareness, he had a rec wide open right in front of him..he needs to go!!'

I believe it...I envy you guys. We NEED a quarterback like THAT.

I can't stand to watch the Texans games anymore. The Texans are so pathetic that it's painful to watch.

I don't even want to compare them with the past Oilers teams. The Oilers may have choked in big games - We all remember the 32 point choke at Buffalo. However, the Oilers actually had a good team during those years. They made the playoffs for 7 consecutive seasons.

The only thing I can stand about the Texans games is listening to the fan feedback afterwards, hearing the announcers and fellow disgruntled fans talk about how bad the Texans are and listening to John McClain on chron.com, in which he usually describes the Texans as "pathetic".

I can't stand that anymore either. I think there's something really wrong and jinxed to the bone about the relationship between the city of Houston and the NFL. That Superbowl will never happen, and, if it ever did, we'd lose in some extremely embarrassing fassion.

Actually will never learn. What Vince did today isn't something that's learned. You either have it or you don't. "Some" obviously don't have it.

Man Hookem Horns! Take a few days off and come back. I was sick too. Just remember you aen't the only one. After a tough or intimidated loss, I usually take a few days off from TEXANS message boards and stay away from NFL. It works for me. I was Oilers fan and now Texans fan and I know it is tough to be a fan for a team that don't win much games. But, look at bright side of the TEXANS. Look at our rookies! This team is on the way up. Don't give up just yet.

GO TEXANS!!

It'll be good for you guys if I give up. They will probably go to the Super Bowl like the Titans did once I gave up on them for leaving Houston.

Honestly, it's the whole Vince Young thing that made me sick today. This guy pulled off stuff he was pulling off in college, against the other team I root for. That coupled with the fact he did it wearing a Titans uniform, plus the fact the Texans could have drafted him, the fact that the Texans are going to be paying for that for a long time, and us fans are going to be the ones suffering.

As I predicted after the draft, Bud will be getting the last laugh and I ponder, what in all of hades did I do to deserve this? I feel like the Rodney Dangerfield of NFL fandom. The joke is always on me. :bomb:

Anway, enough of my crying and whining for the night. Yes, I will probably be back, just like an abused spouse to the wife beater.

I do like Vince too. But, we didn't draft him so be it. Perhaps, you are right. We may suffer playing againt Titans in the future. Now this is MAY! We don't know that. Vince should become a great QB in the future but he won't be able to win many game without right players around him. This is Titans owned by Bud that is their disadvantage. Remeber Bud? Remember how he screwed up Oilers in the 70's? I just don't tust him nor like him. Even, Warren Moon couldn't do it by himself. So what I am saying is Vince has a lot of protential and should become a great NFL QB in the future but, that doen't mean they will give us a fight in the future. We got Mario and DeMeco, Owen,Eric,Charles and etc. Just give our young guys a chance to improve the Texans. IMO you would be pleased to see this team in a playoff in near future(Should be within 2years).

GO TEXANS!!

For those that were on the Draft VY bandwagon it is going to be a very rough decade or so of football.

Personally I've already gone from being a diehard Texans only fan to being close to an equal fan of the Texans and Titans, no telling where it'll go from here, but one thing is for sure, I'll always be bitter.

really?? ive seen him make some stupid decisions/bad throws.. wonder how you missed that??
25 for 30 2 TDs no INTs..... 107 QB rating. He was also the teams leading rusher.

OH yeah...... he's a rookie, & he just beat a team we couldn't.

Gargabe stats... just where don't they count? Seems like they are only in the fanasty minds as they turned into a win. Now as for this guy leaving... the longest goodbye ever. Yawn

I appreciate your PM Caddy.

I am just curious how many more of you took this thread seriously?

If that one dood just tackled Vince, it would have been over. He thought the ball was thrown (someone might have yelled out ball), so he let go in fear of getting one of the NFL's stupid penalities. That cost the Giants the game. Also, the other guy ( number fourty something), just let Vince Young run past him. It was amazing how the Giants handed the Titans that game.

I also smiled when I saw Vince Young that happy.

Not your best post ever. "Let him run right past him" ... Vince juked him dude. I'd like to see you make an open field tackle on Vince Young.

true, #97 Kiwanuka - DE can't finish a tackle on VY (gave up?, lost in thought?) and he juked #47 Demps - SS for the 1st down.

...just showed a highlight at the half of MNF

It was so funny Coughlin ran up to him after the play and got down on his knees and spread his arms and was just like "WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?!?!?!?"

Classic.

Understandable. That was one of the worst plays at the worst moments in a football game.

Just goes to show when things start going your way, they REALLY start going your way.

I remember being in the Giants' forum at the time Kiwanuka was drafted...everyone begging for Sinorice Moss, Thomas Howard, or Greg Jennings. Kiwanuka was announced...uproar.

Kiwanuka got flagged for roughing the passer when he knocked David Carr to the ground as the ball was released. That was in his head. Vince pumped his arm and Kiwankua thought he threw the ball so he let up to avoid the penalty. Chalk this one up to the NFL QB protection rules. I think Vince was shocked he let him go. I feel sorry for Kiwanuka. He was trying to play smart because a roughing call would have given the Titans an automatic 1st. Honestly, the refs should have blown the whistle for in the grasp.

Are you sir implying that without Carr's influence Vince would never have been able to orchestrate that comeback? :)
