That was not an any given Sunday moment in my opinion. We beat the team that they fielded, just as we have been beaten with the team we have fielded in the past. It had much more to do with everyone who touched the field playing with a purpose.
 
I wonder what kind of cheese goes well with Jaguars whine? :heh:

We showed up and played four quarters of football yesterday, and our D finally came to make a statement. I could care less who is injured for Jacksonville, because they would have had a tough game against us regardless of their situation.
 
Waah Waah boo hoo. None of this worked when we ran Dave Ragone and Tony Hollings against them a few years ago along with a make-shift defense. We got stomped and had our noses rubbed in it then ..... deal with it!

Exactly. That's why I said:

This wasn't an "Any Given Sunday" loss. The Texans destroyed the Jaguars in all parts of the game. I am guessing the hotel hand lotion caused the Jaguars to fumble the ball repeatedly in the second half.

Dead on. All the Jag fans ive talked with love throwing the "injury bug excuse" out there like no other team in the NFL deals with injuries. The funniest part about it though is that Jag fans are jumping off the playoff ship because they lost to us. Hell, they sound worse than some of us did after losing to Dallas!!

When Jaguars players drove to Alltel Stadium on Saturday morning for a brief practice before heading to the airport, they were greeted by roadblocks that prevented them from getting into the Alltel parking lot. A road race event caused some players to be unable to report for meetings on time, which caused Del Rio to have to push his schedule back.

No big deal? Wrong. Football teams are very fragile commodities. The most minor of distractions can damage their routine and focus.

Del Rio's Saturday morning got a bad start when he picked up the newspaper and read that his star running back was complaining about his contract. It was, yet, another distraction; the kind coaches especially dislike.

Forget about the bogus terrorist threat from earlier in the week. You don't scare these guys with that stuff. Their flight proceeded smoothly and uneventfully to Houston and the hope was that maybe, just maybe, they left all of their troubles behind in Jacksonville.

They apparently did not. Some players acknowledged that they had spent a wakeful night in a noisy hotel. Party noise from the street filled several rooms on the street side of the hotel. One player spoke of finally being able to fall asleep, only to be awakened at five in the morning by loud sounds within the hotel. His night was over. It was time to play.

It might be "Blacked Out Day" depending on the attendance level. Sorry, I couldnt' resist. Sicilian Jag seems like a pretty classy fan.

I guess Jacksonville's travel budget can only afford for them to stay in a Motel 6, or a Travel Lodge?

Wouldn't your NFL team be staying in a place where the noise factor would be silenced fairly quickly, considering the price tag of where they stayed?

If you were a mean, nasty Texans-eating Jaguars player...wouldn't you storm out of your room and go pummel the noisemakers so you could sleep? I mean, you just sit there in your room, sleepless, and DON'T do anything about it yourself? Amazing.

Their entire team looked out of sync. They were coming out of a bye week, and they looked like they could care about the game. Leftwich even admitted he played badly, and then he said "I don't why, either." He looked indifferent. Fred Taylor ripped off runs like he was fighting for his new contract. Wilford went and sat down after the fumble and there was nooooooobody around him.

That team is going through SOMETHING. There's something bigger that's looming that's not being reported. Am I wrong? It looked like a team who didn't care at all.
 
You mean they didn't accuse you of clubbing their linemen and parachuting in the air on field goals? LOL

I will say it again... Great win!!!

Guess this would qualify as an excuse. Bit of a head scratcher by Del Rio.

HOUSTON - In a surprising move, Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio benched safety Deon Grant for the second half of the team's 27-7 loss to the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Grant, who was credited with six tackles in the first half and made an interception that was nullified by a penalty, said he wasn't given an explanation from anyone for the move.

Del Rio would only say it was a coaching decision.

Grant said he wondered if his attempt to give a halftime speech while trying to motivate his teammates played a role in the decision.

He wouldn't specify what he told his teammates, but said "It wasn't negative. I guess he [Del Rio] didn't like what I said and I was out."

Grant said by the time he walked into the locker room, he didn't realize that Del Rio apparently had told the players he didn't want any talking at halftime. He was then informed as he went out for the second half that he wouldn't be playing.

I need to look back at some stuff but I am still concerned with the amount of time they got stoned at the line.

What I want to look at is if you take the long runs out, how many yards per carry was the run game getting?

A Kubiak run offense is suppose to get consistent run yardage, while minimizing negative yards or getting stopped at the line. A big run here or there is nice and is gravy under the system, but the purpose of the run game is to get those consistent yards so that you are not in long yardage for 3rd down. That and if you are getting consistent good gains in the run game, it opens up the play action game.

The nice late runs by Lundy is why Owen Daniels got so freaking open that he had to really concentrate on catching the ball because he thought he was so freaking open but wasn't sure if someone snuck near him. It is fun to see Carr throw it downfield into double coverage because Kubiak trusts Johnson to come down with the ball, but the true fun will happen when the run game gets smoking and the Owen Daniels stuff gets that wide open all the time. That's what the Denvery style system is all about.

The pass blocking looked pretty good. The run blocking, I want to look at more.

Yeah that is interesting.

Let's just say that I wouldn't want to be in their locker room this week.

Jack Del Rio and Mike Tice are bigger than a lot of their players and look like they should have pads back on.

I am guessing the Jaguars won't have to worry about noisy hotels and road blocks to get them motivated enough to play the Texans in a few weeks.

Well, our play has been on par with Denver's this year--fact is, we're ranked higher and have scored more points---now, we just need to get down their defense and we'll be all set................

i'd agree there. i think the pass blocking has moved up to adequate, and carr is making these guys look good. after rewatching the game, he had about 3 seconds every time to make the throw before someone got to him and while they didnt blitz often, we did a real good job of picking it up. our running game improved because of the draws i think. we spread them out a little with the passing game as we've been doing, but there were two or three draws in the first half that really caught jacksonville off guard. after that, we spent a lot more time running to the left and that's where we're much stronger. pitts & flanagan are a great tandem and each is pretty good at peeling off their combined block to pickup the second level, and salaam played real well yesterday (making a great block on lundy's first big run). i dont think we ran successfully to the right side except for a couple of plays that followed flanagan, but i may have just simply missed them.

overall i'd say the line played pretty well.
 
Scooter, Texans Chick - thoughts on Lundi? Did he make a difference or was he just in at the right time? Glad he had a big game, but I didn't see many tuff yardage runs. I can't tell whether he is a RB or not.

i was much more concerned with line play and honestly didnt pay much attention to the backs, but from what i took notice to, lundy looked pretty good. it's premature for anyone to say whether he's the real deal or not because he's a 6th round rookie in only his second game. what i liked however is how fast he hit the holes and that's exactly what works in kubiak's ZBS. as for the "tough yards", it's not what we're going to be asking from him, but lundy did have a few plays where he was able to hit the pile and make 2-3 yards out of it. the most notable being his TD run (great block by mckinney i think). where he's going to succeed or fail is in upcoming weeks now that he's got some confidence and has the confidence of his coaches. lundy has to make quick decisions and explode through the lanes like he did against jacksonville instead of dancing around or trying to push the pile like most rookies. it's still early, but in my opinion lundy's the back most likely to succeed in kubiak's zone blocking system. basic answer ... yes he made a difference, and he wasnt just in at the right time. lundy earned his yards and might've made a bigger impact given a couple of the lanes gado missed.

that, and he had the second best play of the day. despite losing 6 yards on the play, lundy had one of the best stiff arms i've seen ... hell it was closer to a WWE choke slam.
 
The Texans played much better this week. However the Jags played poorly and that helped the cause. Leftwich was terrible. He was way off target all day. Even when there was little or no pressure he was throwing behind his receivers or one hopping it to them. Missing Stroud helped our run game to improve as well. Still the Texans gained confidence as the game continued and confidence is a huge piece of the puzzle. Hopefully it carries on.
 
Just to clarify, there's no legit excuses (not even the hotel, to which I also asked "WTF?", go somewhere else then if it's a problem). Injuries, sure, but even with everyone we were missing, I highly doubt we would have won. Getting back those guys wouldn't have made our o-line play better, have fixed Byron's ankle, or in my mind even been sufficient enough to stop your offense.

The offense was clicking, Carr on target and outstanding playcalling on both sides of the ball. Not only did the d-line get a ton of penetration throughout the game, but the blitzes seemed to work perfect every time. Offense, defense, coaching, no matter how you look at it, you guys were by far the better team yesterday.

Hopefully in 3 weeks it will be a different story, but who knows. See ya'll then.

I would go all the way back to Davis and Mathis. Kudos to the visiting Jag fans on the board for having the class to say that on that particular day we were better as opposed to the reporter who side stepped reality just to look good to his readers.

babin, payne, earl, dayne, weigert, putz, rainer, faggins, mckinney, wong, mathis, DD, roc, spencer ... and probably a few i'm missing. most of which are starters.
 
Yeah, my first thought was that I don't care if its "black day", "teal day" or "white day" as long as its "football day" instead of "roll over and die day" like we Jag fans saw this past weekend.

Up until now I've thought we had a pretty close-knit team with more pride than they showed this past weekend. Normally I'd expect them to come out with a vengance next week like they did against the Jets (after the Redskins debacle), but a game in Philly as the iggles come off a loss is no way to get healthy.

But enough Jag talk on your board. I'll check in to talk some trash in a couple weeks. Beat the titans for us.
 
Okay, I'm well past the 24 hours and ready to give ya'all props.

No excuses from this fan, just the facts. The Jaguars were no shows on Sunday. I didn't recognize the team on that field. Byron seemed to in a whole other world. The D, well, they are boggled with injuries to 3 of our top guys(2 for the season) and we had way too many rookies in there. Once again, not an excuse, a fact. The players on D need to readjust to a system without Peterson and Hayward, and hopefully for not much longer, Stroud.

The fumbles were unbelievable. Very uncharacteristic of both Taylor and Wilford.

I wasn't sad Sunday, no tears from this girl, I was ANGRY.Because I knew that the Jags weren't playing up to their level. They looked like the d--- Raiders!!! Had the team that played the Jets in week 5 showed up, the outcome would have been very different.

So, congrats on the win. Time to move on to our next game and we will see you guys in a few weeks here at home.

Did you write that reply to his blog? Whoever did, that was great!

I do like him calling the Texans a "pest". If nothing else, it means we are something that cannot be overlooked.

I have much respect for the Jags franchise. Since they're not an old franchise, they're kinda like an older sibling we just like to better. Then you have Indianapolis, who is like a rich uncle that looks down on the rest of the family, and Tennessee is like that white-trash uncle in prison.
