An excellent point. I don't know why we'd draft a QB with the ones on the roster already. Unless they're going to give up on Davis Mills, then I could see spending a low round pick on a developmental QB.

Haven’t they already given up on Mills? Started Keenan over Mills last year. Ryans and Slowik have zero confidence in the guy.

My point precisely.

I’d take a flyer on Jacob Cowing around the 6th round. He’s slightly built, but he ran a 4.38 at the combine. Probably a slot in the NFL so a little Metchie Insurance although he’s not the overall player that Metchie was coming out. But I see ST value with him allowing him a chance to compete with Sims for the returner role/last receiver spot. Worst case, he’s on the PS to develop and see what you have.

I would use one of the 4ths on Cowing if we haven't selected a WR at that point in the draft.

I’m wondering if the Texans will bring in someone to compete with Sanders for that designated pass rusher role. Three players they’ve been linked to that would fit the mold are Mohamed Kamara, Gabriel Murphy and Nelson Ceaser.

I think you’d have to use a 4th to get Kamara or Murphy. But both would provide legitimate competition to Sanders.

I think Milton will be out of the league in 3 years. All he has is an arm. I just don’t think he’ll develop.
Could you elaborate on that? Milton has been very solid since transferring to Tennessee. 32 TDs, 5 INTs. Talent wise, he certainly belongs with the 2nd tier QBs, but without the experience. Milton needs pro coaching, but you can say that about pretty much any QB in this draft. Anyone who liked Hendon Hooker last year, should like Joe Milton this year.

I think an UDFA would provide legitimate competition to Myjai Sanders. He's done nothing in his two years in the league to assume he'll make an NFL roster. A fringe player that needs to make a big, big jump.

I think he has arm strength, but doesn’t have accuracy or touch. He transferred to Tennessee which notoriously has a very easy offense with regards to reads. I just don’t think he can develop IMHO.

Very talented, but dumb as a box of rocks. If you cant learn to read defenses after being coached by Harbaugh and Huepel then his issues will always be there.

;Are you describing Anthony Richardson from last year's draft? There's no question that Milton will require serious pro coaching. But he's ahead of Richardson in regards to his skill set going into the draft.

You and your rocks should get a room. And who has Harbaugh developed? Kaepernick? Huepel runs the most simplistic (yet effective) passing game in the SEC. Yes, he did get Sam Bradford drafted #1 overall. But Bradford never amounted to much in the NFL.

Look at the 2 big QB stories out of last year's draft, Richardson and Hooker. Milton is out of the same offense as Hooker, but without Hyatt and Tillman (both 2023 3rd rounders). And Milton is more polished than Richardson entering the league with similar tools. I would not suggest taking Milton in the 1st round or even Day 2. But I would take a chance on him Day 3 before any of the 3rd tier QBs like Rattler or Pratt. Yes, Milton may be out of the league in 3 years. Richardson and Hooker also may not hit. But I would like to see him in the QB room with Slowik, CJ, & Case. If Milton does hit, the Texans could get a 1st or more in the 2027 draft.

You love you some dumb QB's.

BTW, I liked Hooker

Milton had WR's last yr to throw too.

I wasn’t a fan of Richardson either. I definitely could be wrong, but as of right now I don’t like Milton as a prospect.

No, you said Milton had WR's to throw to too and he asked such as?
Bru McCoy for one who was very talented and signed on with Texas before transferring. He must have gotten hurt though.

He also had Wright and Small at RB. Plus Castles at TE. All of whom are draftable prospects. White was a very good WR for Milton. Milton also had a very good WR corps at Michigan but couldn't get the job done. Another case of a guy with a million dollar arm and a 10 cent brain.

So why didn't you answer Lucky with that? I still don't see quality WR's there or any reason not to use a day 3 pick on Milton

If you like wasting picks then I guess he's a good pick. I might use a 7th on him and if he doesn't workout at QB then try him out at TE.

I'm pretty sure Lucky can figure this out. I did answer his question about what other dumb QB did he like. Derrick.

Argumentative

You're only arguing with yourself. But you did make my point regarding the lack of quality targets at Tennessee this season. Which is why the Vols leaned so much on the running game. Bru McCoy played in 5 games, breaking his right ankle. No other Tennessee receiver had a combine invite.

Edit: McCoy did not declare for the draft and is using his 5th year to return to Knoxville.

Why is it so important to label him as a “dumb” QB? He was a 4-Star recruit out of HS in Florida. He entered Michigan in 2018 and transferred to Tennessee in 2021 with a completed Bachelor Degree. Arrived at Tennessee and completed his time at the conclusion of the 2023 season with all the necessary coursework in the book for a second Bachelor’s Degree. No matter how deep I searched, I found nothing regarding his GPA at either stop. He never appeared to be a locker room cancer as a backup in Michigan or as a backup to Hooker after he got injured, which gave Hooker his shot. I did find out that Milton stayed with the team full time in helping them prepare for their Bowl Game instead of leaving to prepare for the Combine. To me, he comes across as a team oriented guy with the physical capabilities to compete in the NFL at QB or wherever he might earn an NFL payday…..but being “dumb”, didn’t find anything that might allude to that.

It's not important.

But to answer your question, after working with Harbaugh and Heupel he hasn't improved his ability to read coverages.

He was throwing to Derrick? Derrick who?
Zoolander. He's so hot right now.

My problem with Milton is the offense he is in. Reports are that the pre-snap read eliminates half the field for the QB, so I'm concerned can he every learn to a) read the D correctly and b) get past his second progression. As a late round flyer I wouldn't hate pick, kid has a cannon; but I don't see Nick going down that path just yet (maybe next year, more likely in 2 years)

If we see a trade with either Mills or CK, then QB obviously becomes a necessity.
