I don't know. Maybe I'm not keeping up. I don't think I'm part of this, but since this is a forum, let me make my position clear.

I can only speak for myself on this. (And I'm about to say a lot...)

I had doubts about Stroud before the draft.

I don't watch college games. I only learn about these players in the run-up to the draft. I don't consider myself a wannabe scout or an arm-chair GM, so I lean heavily on the thoughts of internet experts and guys in the forum and look at tape here and there. If it's someone I think we might draft, I watch more and try to get more opinions. With Stroud, the various experts were concerned about his response to pressure, his ability to throw from a clean pocket, and his ability to create off-schedule. I expected our offensive line to be a shambles, and I expect the pockets to be a lot dirtier in the NFL in general than what Stroud had in college.

The S2 score was a piece of evidence against him, but not a good piece of evidence in my opinion. Although it seems to corroborate what we saw in his college days, I don't know enough about the S2, how it's done, what it actually measures, or how it's administered. I also do not have sufficient information on its historical application and/or results.

Another strike against him for me, even though I know it shouldn't be, is that he's from Ohio State. That's never ended well.

I don't care who his representation is, who he idolizes, who he models his game after, or who he spends time with. I only care that he's serious about playing at a very high level.

His game against Georgia gave me hope that his issues with dirty pockets could be something he could improve.

EDIT -- I would not have drafted him. I didn't want to draft any of the QBs this year and instead build up our defense and our o-line.

But now he's my QB.

He has so far exceeded my expectations for him. At this point, I'm looking forward to a glorious and illustrious future with him as my QB.

So, I'm sold. Let's go!

I am kind of a numbers-nerd. If I find something interesting, I'm going to pull it up and examine it, whether it makes CJ look good or bad.

CJ does have a lot of room for improvement. Given how well he's already been playing, that should scare the entire league.

So... that's where I'm at.
The leaked S2 score was said to be wrong by one of the founders of the company that administer it.

Not just Carolina. Imagine what Bears fans are thinking right now as their team is being shut out in a third straight loss while Stroud is ballin'.

Well, we don't know how it ends up but also, just like the Mahomes/Watson thing, we don't know Patrick Mahomes becomes Patrick Mahomes in Houston too.

Everyone is where they need to be in life.

Right now, it looks like CJ looks good and I'm happy he's here if this is how he performs and excited if his OL gets better.

C.J. Stroud off to one of best starts in NFL history for a QB

Texans rookie C.J. Stroud is off to one of the best starts in history for a quarterback.

He threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday’s 37-17 upset of the Jaguars, his first NFL win. That gives him 906 passing yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions after three games.

He is the first quarterback in NFL history to have at least 900 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and zero interceptions in his first three career starts. His 906 yards are the third most through three starts behind only Cam Newton (1,012) and Justin Herbert (931).

“I have great guys around me,” Stroud said, via DJ Bien-Aime of ESPN. “Nothing I can do without those guys up front battling, the receiver running the right route at the right depth, [offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik] calling the right plays at the right time.”

The Texans had the No. 1 overall pick in their back pocket until an upset of the Colts in Week 18 last January. That gave the Bears the top pick, dropping Houston to No. 2.

The Panthers drafted Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, leaving Stroud as the consolation prize for the Texans.

“The best thing that happened to the Houston Texans’ franchise was us beating the Indianapolis Colts last game, last year,” tight end Brevin Jordan told Bien-Aime. “We drafted the right guy. Man, he’s a leader. He’s a phenomenal player and a phenomenal guy with God-given talent. Dude, he’s unbelievable.”

Is Brevin Jordan saying the Texans would have drafted Bryce Young if they had the #1 pick? :stirpot:

that TD pass to Dell was against a 0 blitz…
Refresh my memory. Was that the one where he had to split two free rushers, stiff arm a linebacker, hurdle a safety while throwing off platform from the third slot placing the ball just beyond the CBs fingertips?

Or the one that was perfectly picked up where he stepped up into a virtually clean pocket?

Regardless, I didn't mean literally no pressure. Like I said, the Jags pass rush & their secondary sucks.

Wasn’t everyone?

Wasn’t everyone saying that Lovie knew he was gonna get fired, so he gave a parting FU by not tanking the last game to cost them the first overall pick? Anyone who denies it now is a f’ing liar.

I’m laughing my ass off right now. Laughing my ass……..OFF!

All you clucks who didn’t want to draft any QB and wait until next year…….for the next 10 to 15 years, rubbing your noses in it will be something I’m going to thoroughly enjoy. :D

Even Cj says he didn't do anything special

Just another day at the office. I posted this specifically to see if anyone would overreact.

That one I deserve.

IF Nick & DeMeco saw a future franchise QB & had to have him I have no qualms over them drafting Stroud. I believe I said so when they drafted him (I probably said, "I don't see it." & stressed that when I said it).

IF Hannah picked him, you guys got nothing to brag about. We got lucky, so far. & I'm good with that too, as long as the Texans are winning.

Exactly and the I told you so crowd are petty people.

Things look promising, but it's the 3rd game, Stroud looked better than he did last game.

What changed from the Indy game? OL continuity? Defensive adjustments?

I'm most glad that Stroud realizes all the things surrounding him.
That's a good level of maturity you hope to see in a young QB.

Oh, I thought there was plenty of Stroud vs. Young debate leading up to the draft.

Just another day at the office. I posted this specifically to see if anyone would overreact.
He has never been any different from day one. He loves the game, his team and the city of Houston. He is humble and grateful for his opportunities. Through all of this various more moral and intelligent posters still wanted to destroy his character and intelligence. Most pathetically he is denigrated for having a father in prison and going to a wrong party and having an agent with an inner city tag. I don’t see how any human spirit can improve on that overreaction.

The biggest issue was and remains his agent and squashing any desires to be one of those athletes "looking for bigger and better" and doing the same hostage-taking garbage as other players represented. As we know, that's always franchise-ruining ****.

Second biggest issue appears to be long-term shoulder concerns.

Third is, I suppose from what I gathered over the offseason discussions, "how he handles the pressure." Right now with the crap OL, he's been as decent as possible. About "pressure" as in weight of games, we'll see I suppose.

I have hopes. Cautiously optimistic as always.

I’d say the people hijacking every thread with I told you so’s about how Stroud will be a bust before the games start and self-serving “We can do the job better than the football guys” posts are the ones being petty.

But now that we’ve got three games of actionable information on Stroud, it’s nice to see the S2 score and crowd he hangs around hasn’t had any effect on his game… ;)

It must suck seeing stroud playing well and see dalton put up better stats than Bryce young

I'm thinking Stroud is performing better than Young because Stroud is a perfect fit for this Shanahan WCO. The system is most effectively executed by an accurate pocket passer with precise anticipation/timing and just enough mobility to avoid rushers during a naked bootleg. Right now I see Stroud as a less mobile version of John Elway.

Also, this system can be very friendly to young QB's as long as they put the time into studying. Many struggle with learning it, but once they get it, they thrive in it like Brock Purdy.

They know who they are, and with their bright glaring chapped asses showing, we do, too!;)

What’s rarely mentioned, is Stroud’s dedication to game preparation. He loves to watch film.
He wants to learn and be better than he already is. Forget Elway. Try Peyton Manning.

.....anyone else, like me, beginning to think Hannah was devious enough to drop those S2 scores to the media? Nothing like poisoning the well on Stroud so the Panthers slide their chips over to Young.

3 very promising games and the victory laps have already started. They've started the season off worse than they did last year and have ann easier schedule. I remember a time when some of the same things were said about Derrick's rookie season. With that said Stroud is a better player than Derrick ever was.

I haven't commented on Steroids play at all this year.

What I said was true if you read the entire post. That post was more about the Stingley, Green picks than anything to do with the last draft.

You all want to talk S2 scores. On that 68 yard TD throw to Tank if you watch Tank he was running a post to the sideline, he was so wide open that Stroud threw it to the inside making him change his route upfield for the TD. Anyone else notice that?

Yep, was pretty sweet.

Personally, I enjoyed seeing on the first or second drive of the game.

Jacksonville was coming with the blitz, but CJ as he did in the home game had changed his cadence.

This led to the Jaguars showing their run blitz and to what side of the field.

Immediately, CJ audibled the run to the opposite side.

Love seeing things like that as simple as it may be.

Game is slowing down for him.

Now we’re playing the petty card. Off the chains this guy. Because we all knows how you get down. Lol petty

It's one guy. No "various" no "posters"

a particular poster.
And a word manipulator. Here is what I dont get. People are going to whine and complain. That’s why Amerika is now what it is. But as many times as I’ve had posts deleted and I get it that I know the rules yet screwed up, in a “Welcome to Houston CJ Stroud” thread why does it have so many references to prisons, hanging with bad crowds, lack of intelligence, dumb, inner city, etc? Over and over and over? Just stop that crap or give somebody their own thread to crap in. Personally It gives every appearance of poorly disguised racism. Im embarrassed about it and I didn’t post it. In a city of 6 million or so how many viewers or posters on this MB not living in a shiny new neighborhood have to wade through this crap to read about someone who is giving them something to cheer about? And more disgusting still from someone who doesn’t disguise their moral superiority? Buckeye Homer hit the nail on the head when he said this is a board of cliques.

What you don't seem to realize is that I'm going to enjoy getting my nose rubbed in it for the next 10 to 15 years.

I don't care about being right if they get it right. :P

Buckeye Homer is a guy I wish was still around. I really liked him. His attack on the members in the end was unfortunate. I don’t know what happened to trigger it but I do agree that we can be a bit clique-ish but I don’t see that as a bad thing. We all love the Texans. Of course we’re going to clique, ya know? I just thought we were nice about it. Apparently not.
