That's nice. I like it, but... and yes, I'm that guy... that's not all of CJ's completions against Utah. Those are only the highlights. That's about 12 of his completions out of 37.
 
These talking head clowns keep talking about CJ Stroud NOT running the ball in college. Next they're going to come out and say that Dan Marino should have ran the ball more. LOL.

By the way, CJ had the #1 QB rating in college football last season. AR15 was 84th!

Other notables: Caleb Williams was 5th. Bryce Young was 9th. Drake Maye, widely considered as the #2 QB for the 24' draft, was 20th, which is solid. Will Levis was 28th.

Your boy, Derrick, was his own worst enemy. There is absolutely no reason to throw Stroud in same category, just because they share same agent.

Most Clutch City sports fans know who David Mulugheta is, and that is why there was some doubt the Houston Texans would take C.J. Stroud.

Mulugheta is the agent for the Texans’ previous franchise quarterback, who had an otherwise messy departure from Houston. The saga kept the Texans in a phantom zone for the first season of general manager Nick Caserio’s tenure.

However, it appears bygones may be bygones in the Stroud era. The former Ohio State signal caller says Mulugheta has been positive about the organization.

“He’s told me a lot of great things,” Stroud said on a Zoom with Houston media. “He told me Nick Caserio is a great GM, the McNairs are great ownership, and thank you to them for giving me this opportunity. So, he had a lot of positive things to say and I’m excited to get to work, and I’m super excited to be a Texan.”

Stroud is the first quarterback taken in the first round by Houston since 2017 when they took Mulugheta’s other client.

Anyone who's watched CJ playing basketball knows that he has decent athletic ability. He's probably average when compared to other NFL QB's when it comes to running the ball. He's decent but he's no Justin Fields, nor is he Ben Roethlisberger, thankfully.

Ryan Day, like any smart coach, protected CJ and did NOT want him running the ball in games where OSU was supposed to win by 4 TD's. When CJ had to run he did. As I said in another thread, Ohio State's pass protection was perhaps the best they have EVER had in the history of the program, and that's saying something. So, no, CJ didn't really have a need to run much. Against Georgia we needed him to run and he did and he did it well.

I might be a little touchy about the "CJ needs to run more" narrative because I've heard it said so many times. We want that the Texans pass protection is amazing and that the receivers have time to run their routes and that CJ gets them the ball. It's CJ's job to get the ball to the playmakers, not run the ball.

I was told his pestering posts where my fault and I should not engage him, so I no longer do. However, I still see a bazillion posts chock full of his tears daily when others choose to engage him. This entire message board should just be named after him.

It's going to be great down on Kirby after ye 3, for DM and Stroud, the Texans org didn't learn a thing and will eventually pay the price for being a marketing org with a football division.

Agreed about the City.

The Texans are and always have been a marketing org with a football division. Nothing has changed down on Kirby. To succeed they will have to be truly blind squirrel finds nut lucky.

That other QB....Hendon Hooker finished #2 with (1) game and (1) Bowl Game left on the table. He very well could've finished up as the top rated QB in CFB. That non-contact ACL and his age negated (2) very strong seasons. He landed on his feet, when the Lions drafted him in RD3....which I think is a steal. With Goff ahead of him and no pressure to hit the field, he's going to get the best development time of any QB drafted in 2023.

As for Stroud, I like everything I'm hearing. I really appreciated Keenum's insight regarding Stroud's progress b/c I see him as a future NFL coach. If the OL really moves up the rung and gives the team a strong running game, Stroud and the receivers will capitalize.

Richardson lit up the combine. And his pro day. It’s the actual football games where his issues occur.

Let’s see if the guy can complete 50% of his passes without the majority being WR screens and shovel passes and maybe I’ll start believing the hype.

I would compare it to…scoring favorably on a test.

You can test well. You can practice well.

But can you do it in a game?

Only one place to see what a person is capable of.

And it ain’t on a test or practice.

Right. Way too much is put into playing in shorts with red shirt protection. Anybody can make the throws and look good in practice without fear of getting crushed by a 300 pounder or they wouldn't be at this level. But when the bullets are real it's a different story. I mean I once knew a guy who thought Tom Savage looked good enough in OTA's and practice to have him start.

On the other side of the coin however, I loved reading about Levis' struggles so far, with his mayo in the coffee, banana peel eating self.

Was thinking the same thing about Baker Mayfield in shorts throwing to 10-foot tall WRs.
 
I agree with you guys but it's still a noteworthy data point. Only one...but a notable one because many talking heads said he wouldn't pick up an NFL offense quickly (apparently, he is), he'd be throwing crap all over the place (word from Colts is he's been pretty accurate), and that he's a run only guy.

Again... it's one very early data point, but I'd be excited if I was a Colts or Texans fan. Oh wait...I am.

While it's early and I agree, when the live bullets are in the chamber it's a whole different ballgame, I'd still rather be hearing praise instead of oh-uh's like Tenn.

Word out of Tennessee is sort of the opposite. I'm hearing Levis has had some early struggles.

Where all 3 of these guys are later this year and let's say in 2025 could be completely upside down and Levis may be the best of all. It's super early. But hey, it's all we have to go by so far.

And for CJ...so far, so good.

Here's the thing. You don't really know if a QB has an understanding of the offense or accuracy until he shows it in a game. We saw that when Richardson was in college (not the NFL) he didn't really have control of the offense and was wildly inaccurate. You say what Richardson has done in OTAs is noteworthy. I say...

I want to see the 1st team in OTA's say that a guy is awful and the scout that lead us to choose him is going to be fired. Things you will never see, like the Texans at OTA's.

Hannah is running the franchise now. She's got a marketing background. Nothing has changed down on Kirby. Hopefully they get lucky. I wouldn't bet on this.

True, she needs to stay out of the drafting of players though. I understand that she wanted to draft a QB that she could market. Which is the exact reason David Carr was the 1st pick in franchise history. This is one reason why I say history is repeating itself. Those videos are telling IMHO.

Let's remember this also when evaluating Stroud.
