State of the O-line

Because stills is not worth that high of a pick. In his games he had 37, 38, 89 yards then 24 yards and getting hurt.

But I was told by you and others here on Texanstalk that you gotta look at "impact". This is the whole basis for your Clowney trade value argument.

Bu..Bu...look at how many double teams he draws!....
look at all the havoc he creates & how he frees other guys up! That's why he worth this.

Now you're saying that a guys value is limited to just his stats when talking about Stills? Get outta here yo.

If that's the case then Clowney is no where close to worth Donald or Mack money...Even the money that it was rumored he was asking for (Little more than Demarcus Lawrence) he wasn't even worth b/c lawrence's numbers overall look better If we're basing it on just his stats from the prior 2 seasons.

What impact is stills having?

Well you outlined it yourself, He's had a huge chunk play of 30+ yards in every game this season except the 1 he got hurt in. All of those chunk plays have set us up in scoring position immediately. Also, his YPC is the highest among all of our WRs..Yes even the 2 guys ahead of him. His immediate repoire with DW4 has been evident from day 1. Truthfully he's been a pleasant find given that Vycint Smith or some other off-brand dude would've been put in Coutee's place when he got hurt. May not seem like a big impact to you, but that's your #3 WR stepping up & doing that.

Well I didn't say he's bad. But I don't think he's worth a pick. He's a two year rental and Coutee is already back anyway. Plus Duke is underused in the passing game

He's another speedster that is drawing people off Hopkins, you could make the argument that Fuller is playing better because he knows that he is replaceable now.

It doesn't seem to be helping Hopkins much but I suppose it's possible Hopkins has quit on O'Brien

In 4 games, deandre has 259 yards at 10.3 average.

These are the types of numbers he was putting up when OBrien brought in Brock.

Just a function of the type of attention he draws as the #1...Teams want DW4 to focus on getting someone else the ball. OBJ has the same type of effect on defenses and his stats reflect that.

Last year he had over 1500 yards and year before that almost 1400 yards.

With fewer weapons around him.

So? It's not a linear relationship bro. **** happens like sacks....DW4 just has to continue to get others involved & stop locking in on DW4 at times. Coverage will eventually loosen.

I don't think Hopkins has quit.

But the fact is OBrien has gone all in investing so many picks in this offense and it still sucks.

And Hopkins is having a very slow start.

So it did cross my mind given rumors that players don't like OBrien

I haven't heard any of those rumors since Brooks left

So crossing your mind is worth a post that a pro like Nuk has quit, I got it now. Thanks for the random day's humor

Roby replacd Jackson, not HB. But HB"s issue was he wasn't treated as elite

He wasn't

Well they moved him all over the place. Don't play the same position but I'd rather have him. Though we'd need another corner

Two firsts & a 2nd for Tunsil is too much.

Two firsts & a 2nd for Tunsil, Stills & a 4th is a good deal.

You don't think that depends upon the quality of play you get from those two guys ?

Up to now , Tunsil has been average at best and despite how well Stills has played , he's not worth more than a 3rd / 4th.

You don't give up 2 #1's for "average at best".

If he starts playing up to the price paid …. that's a different story but so far that's not the case.

I do expect Tunsil to improve but at this point , its far too early to say the trade is a success.

This trade is comparable in pick compensation to the Redskins acquiring the rights to RG3 , the Aints trading for Ricky Williams and the Herschel Walker trade. Three of the most costly trades in the history of the league.
And in reality all those trades ended up as failures for the teams sending out the draft assets.
Dallas took Minny's picks in the Hershel Walker trade and drafted Emmet Smith , Darren Woodson and Russel Maryland … and won a buncha superbowls while Minny did nothing of note.

New Orleans went 3-13 and Ditka got fired …. bagheads for years.

The Redskins ended up giving the Rams picks #'s 2, 6 , 22 and 39 … over three drafts. The draft slots explain the results.

Here the Texans are floundering along at 2-2 having scored 23 points over the last two home games against teams starting a backup QB ….

Laughable comparisons... your hate be showing

Not a whole lot of trades where a team gave up multiple #1's plus for a player.

Really , we wont be able to make a call on this deal for a couple years. If he locks down the position for a decade , call it a good deal. If he bolts after this contract or isn't offered another …. that's different.

I'm not saying it's a success until we're whupp'n butt in the AFCCG.

I was replying to someone who already believes we gave up to much to bring Tunsil to Houston. The point of my post was to point out we didn't give up two 1st round picks for Laremy "smoke em in a gas mask if you got em" Tunsil.

We gave up two 1sts & a future 2nd for Tunsil, Stills, & a 4th.

& Tunsil's technique has been spot on. It's only a matter of time before he & the team gel.

Desperate trades with no pay offs? Tunsil needs to be an all pro, not a pro bowler. Funny thing is he may not max out till the guy who made the trade is fired. If he doesnt resign, worst trade ever. If he signs a mega deal and is just average to save face for OB, worst trade ever. Time will tell.

So you equate giving up 2 1sts + for Tunsil, Stills + to giving up 5 players, 3 1's, 3 2's + or giving up an entire draft for one pick? Like I said, laughable

I look at it as using our 2020 1st on an OL tackle (Tunsil) and giving them our 2021. I think of the second round for Stills. Looks good to me at this point and giving this OL time to dance together it may be better than most.

I look at it as

2020 1st = Tunsil
2021 1st = Stills
Davenport + 2021 2nd = 2020 4th

A 2021 1st might be a overpaying a bit for Stills but it's not a gross overpay.

I see it different. If we pick in the 20's, you don't get a Tunsil for a 20ish 1st round, you would have to package a future 1st rounder to move up to get such a tackle. Jonah Williams this year would have been our first plus future first to get that high. So yes, Tunsil is the two firsts, and Stills and first pick in the 4th is a future 2nd. Seems reasonable if Tunsil is a top tackle

Except the Texans are probably not going to be selecting 20ish more like top 10ish. Value range tips severely negative if O’Brians plan doesn’t pan out along with his job.

If it means getting a real GM and HC then maybe it was worth it :texflag:

We won't know if this trade was a success until 2021. We MUST resign Tunsil to a multi-year deal. Ideally, our picks are in the 20/30s, not top 10.

If this season & next are total failures, Tunsil walks in FA... then doesn't really matter how well Tunsil/Stills play, the trade was a bust.

Aaron Wilson‏@AaronWilson_NFL

Texans' interior line depth is thin even with Zach Fulton returning from a back injury because Greg Mancz is out with a concussion. If Fulton or Max Scharping got hurt, Texans could slide Tytus Howard from tackle to guard with Roderick Johnson or Seantrel Henderson playing tackle

Only reasonable if Tunsil extends his contract here. The big benefit to drafting a guy in the first is having him on the cheap for 5 years. In this case, we only have Tunsil for two.

He will re-sign here.

Agreed, but do you actually expect Devlin to identify a franchise LT, draft him, coach him up? I dont, so this was their way of solving the issue. They certainly have the cap space to pay Tunsil.
