See that was my point, just because something is in a contract doesn’t make it legal. Stuff is added to contracts all the time that don’t actually have legal legs and get overturned. No compete clauses are the biggest thing. If the Texans had any balls and really felt like he was their guy they would have challenged it and force the Pats to prove it’s legal. I didn’t really care if they hired the guy or not, frankly I didn’t see what the big deal about him was, but I hate feeling like the school bully just pulled down our pants and stuffed us in a locker right in font of the cheerleading squad.
All this without knowing if Caserio even wants to leave New England. It doesn't make sense to me to push the issue if they have no indication Caserio, who has turned down other opportunities, even wants a new job.

Think that’s stretching, why would NE bother to file a no tamper if they weren’t afraid he would leave. Just let him interview and then turn it down, like he did with Miami or if he doesn’t even want to interview then why not just call up his buddies Easterby and BoB and say “Hey guys thanks but I’ve got a lot of things tying me in Boston, you know (insert wife name) is teaching at the university so it’s just not a good time to make such a big move.”
This was a lot of trouble on NE part if they didn’t think he would go anywhere.

I think that's where the tampering comes in. The only way you would push the issue is if you "know" he wants to come. Which means you've already had contact... tampered.
But you aren't supposed to know. Hence the only move to make is to back down.

I wish the league would step in, but NE always gets what they want. This job was certainly a promotion, yet they “worded” the contract in a way that binds Caserio to the team through 2020. Cal didn’t do anything wrong by asking for permission to interview. Where he screwed up is by either contacting personally, or having someone else co tact him through text, email, or phone conversation that may or may not have been recorded. It’s obvious Caserio wanted the job, otherwise NE wouldn’t have made a big deal about it. I say we get him next offseason, assuming he doesn’t sign an extension with NE.

I think the Texans may very well think they will get Caserio next year. But I bet they don't.
I bet BB retires & Kraft hands the team over to Caserio (GM) & McDaniels (HC).
& we end up with Ray Farmer.

To me, Cal would be Cousin Eddie. Bill is Clark W. Griswald. Means well but can't get anything right and it all goes haywire.
To me OBrien screws things up, but thinks someone else screwed up, maybe Rick, so he fires Rick, then things get worse (gaine sucks at trading) so he fires Gaine and replaces him with a chaplain

I've always thought the Cletus reference was about Cal.
O'Brien didn't fire either Smith or Gaine. He may have been instrumental in it by throwing them under the bus, but the McNair's had to actually pull the trigger. It's amazing that OBs obvious flaws haven't been taken into account.

You may have missed the point. I meant, with all the excuses butt chin has made for his failures since 2914 be it the OC not doing his job, the special teams coach not doing his job, the gm not doing his job, the players not doing their job, he’s finally left with no one else to throw under the bus. Will he now go after the guys he “wants?” Or will he leave the roster the way it is now that he has all the power he wants, just to blame the 2nd gm he ran off? Yes hope Cal didn’t just give him a pass and notices that it’s always someone else’s fault. The HC needs to be held accountable!Talent meaning another piece of the New England puzzle. Unless, wait for it, Cal wants try his hand shopping for the groceries

If they DO end up going after talent to make it look like the two got it nipped in the bud... The position to be immediately upgraded is obviously the RB position. It would make the two look aware and competent of the situation the organization is in but until then... I guess the head is chasing the tail in some sense!

I honestly think Gaine had full authority. I also think he had a wonderful vision for the Texans but got conservative when his first two big FA signings didn't contribute due to injury. After all, Gaine and O'Brien were in "alignment". I also believe OB trashed Gaine to keep his position.
I don't know about throwing Gaine under the bus. He may have, I don't know. But I'd hate to think the McNairs would fall for it again & again.
There is collaboration & there are aspects of that collaboration that fall clearly in BO'bs court & aspects that fall in Gaine's. Cal may be upset that (if) BG didn't know Jordan Howard was available. Maybe the Browns-Giants trade got him, or the Fred Clark deal. BO'b has no say in any deal like those.

You keep repeating this. Easterby IS NOT the interim GM. Never has been. Chris Olsen is the interim GM and has been so since Gaine was fired.
His job was always on player contracts and the salary cap, never had anything to do with evaluating players. Before the Texans he worked for the NFL analyzing player contracts making sure they complied with the CBA and salary cap.
That is still his job. I seriously doubt he will start evaluating players, leading scouts, and calling teams for trades.
That only leaves Easterby or one of the directors of player personnel (Bazirgan maybe).
