Texans random thought of the day

"Our fans drive us every day to be great."

Oh how I'd love to hear those words spoken by a McNair

Well if you insist on a blocking TE...

OT Jake Fisher, Bengals 2nd 2015, is dropping weight (down 20 to 285 lbs so far @ 6'6") in hopes of converting to TE (played TE in HS and some as a rookie). Will be 26 when the season starts. Probably come cheap.

Why not just go with your 6th ol?

Because this guy may have the skills to actually catch the ball. He thinks so.

I don't particularly like carrying a blocking TE and think our 280 lb TE should be able to learn to block. But many people want to draft one. I'd rather get this guy.

Fisher actually played some TE and HBack in his rookie season. I like Fisher, but his atrial fib, even though calmed with an ablation procedure is far from an assurance that he will be free of the arrhythmia, Multiple such procedures are not uncommonly required, even after years following the initial procedure. But what may be even concerning is the lumbar disc herniation that landed him on IR last November. This may have something to do with his desire to lose weight and change position, although this may not make his risk of re-injury all that much different.

For those who want Antonio Brown to be a Texan:

“I don’t even have to play football if I don’t want. I don’t even need the game. I don’t need to prove nothing to anyone,” Brown told ESPN, via NFL.com. “If they wanna play, they going toplay by my rules. If not, I don’t need to play.

Earned $70 million so far and he does not need the money. He has the statistics and doesn't need to prove himself. He doesn't need the game so why is he still around? He wants to play. He thinks he can add value to a team. I take the comment if they (Pittsburgh management) want to play they will play by his rules (that he can sit out). We want players to not be just about the bucks and he seems to be saying that. Of course he wants to play for team he thinks respects him and his value. He has disagreement with Roethlisberger and he is not only one. Still if I was his agent, I'd tape his mouth.

Wow are you freaking serious. I surely hope this quote bites him is the ash.

By far the worst Diva

Here is link to interview where he said this. I don't hear what some of you are saying. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...-the-first-time-this-offseason-about-Steelers

He was just saying that he wished Ben and AB would workout more together if Ben was going to be the leader of the team and that work is what it takes to become a champion. It would've been better if he would've left the millionaire stuff out but he was telling the truth.

I find it odd that fans dont like guys that tell the truth or guys that have had issues in their pasts when they have no idea of the hardships that a guy like AB has had to make it thru on a daily basis when he was a kid to get to where he is today.

After hearing this interview I still would take a hard pass on AB bu tknow where he's coming from. I heard a regular guy at the gym met AB and talked about his workout routine (Which was amazing) and if Ben worked half that hard and they had fired Tomlin like they should've done 3 yrs ago Pittsburgh would be talked about in the same breath as the Pats.

The reason the Pats are the Pats and the Steelers are the Steelers is the work ethic differences between Brady/Ben and BB and his staff vs Tomlin and his staff.

McClain: How Texans stand after combine, before free agency

John McClain , Houston Chronicle March 4, 2019 Updated: March 4, 2019 4:57 p.m.
INDIANAPOLIS — General manager Brian Gaine and coach Bill O’Brien spent a productive week at the scouting combine and returned to Houston excited about the possibilities of improving the roster at the top of the draft with one pick in the first round and two in the second.

Last year, the Texans didn’t have a draft choice until the third round when they selected safety Justin Reid, who played like a first-round pick.

The Texans’ primary needs are offensive tackle and cornerback, and the April 25-27 draft is deep at both positions. The Texans also need an inside pass rusher, a third running back and a fourth receiver.

Depending on what happens with safeties Tyrann Mathieu and Kareem Jackson, the Texans could have a need at that position. Their contracts expire March 13 when free agency begins. It’s more likely Mathieu returns than Jackson.

“It’s a great opportunity for the club,” Gaine said about having ammunition in the first two rounds compared to last year. “We have three picks in the top 55 and four in the top 86. We’re going to (have) a chance to get very good players in the first two or three rounds that we think can make a significant impact (on) the team.”

Free agency will have an impact on what Gaine does in the draft. The Texans placed the franchise tag on outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney because they have been unable to agree on a new contract. They are going to release Kevin Johnson, which will clear an additional $9.1 million on the cap.

The salary cap is going to be $188.2 million. As it stands today, the Texans are about $64 million under the cap.

“I think we’ll be selectively aggressive where we can, based on what’s going to be available at various positions,” Gaine said about free agency. “Obviously, with our players potentially hitting the free agent market, we’re continuously planning all the time.

“We’re going to draft and develop our own and try to sign our guys to long-term deals before we look for external solutions. And if we have the ability to do that, that’ll be my first priority.”

In free agency, there’s not a lot available at offensive tackle and cornerback, but that doesn’t mean the Texans won’t target players at those positions.

THE REST OF THE STORY

I'd roll with Davenport all day long rather than see Shareece Wright in the lineup again (if Kareem's gone). Really need to address both positions though.

Really, I bet that tune changes when Watson gets hurt again, which will happen if Davenport is the starting LT.

No matter how many CB's they draft this team is going nowhere without a healthy Watson and with Davenport playing LT we know what's going to happen. I mean Watson had broken ribs and a punctured lung. That doesn't even take into account that Davenport directly caused Henderson's injury.

Davenport at his position > Shareece Wright at his.

Watson is more important than either of these 2 turds and his health is directly related to one of these turds.

I feel like we had this discussion last offseason and we saw how that turned out.

Being stuck w/ Wright wasn't a plausible scenario last offseason so not sure how you would have discussed it with me or anyone else. It's not really plausible this season either unless they're brain dead. Doesn't change my fantasy land argument that if I had to choose between starting Wright or Davenport I'm starting Davenport. Wright has no chance of improving and D does.

This is only one of Davenport's problems.

Those positional ratings are a bit harsh on DJ Reader. By himself he'd get the unit a 12

I noted in another thread but the signing of FA, Suh could be a nice but helpful addition to Reader....esspecially if RC could see a 4-3 defense with a signing like this. If the Texans keep Clowney, gotta 4-3 defense and put him at DE and see if he could do even more damage....same with Watt. With the addition of Suh and even more active Reader, one or both of the DE's will be doing some damage.

Not against getting more pressure on opposing QBs at all.
Lack of pass rush cost us the WC game - we couldn't get a stop to save our lives in the first half.

NFL Game Pass has full Texans games going back to 2009. I watched the season opener against the Jets, Mark Sanchez's first NFL game, also Brian Cushing's first game. I don't remember this game but man what a terrible start to a season, they came out flat as hell, Jets defense swarmed Shaub all game long. I remember being hyped for the 09 season since we won like 5 of our last 6 in 2008 and started to look like we would finally turn that corner to make a run for the playoffs, man they just went right back to business as usual to start that 09 season. They got shut out at home and the crowd really let them have it(before leaving early)

Tried to watch the game against the Cardinals to see that glorious play by Andre where he trucks the two guys for a touchdown but it says on there that the game is unavailable. What a tease.

They play a lot of 4 man fronts now, Clowney just doesn't 3 pt stance a lot. Clowney likes standing and it is much better for his knee longevity. Don't understand why people keep wanting to force him into a role he hasn't played for 6 years & isn't good for him.

JMO, but Clowney's best season came when Watt was out and he filled his role on defense. I know RC incorporates a lot of 4 man fronts but somehow the defense is still viewed by all as a 3-4 scheme. I've been a long proponent of hoping RC would make the 4-3 his primary scheme and use Clowney and Watt as the DE's.....which I think is the best for both. Watt took a beating in the 3 man fronts which is another reason why I could see a lot of value in adding, even an aged Suh for a season to the DL. This is not to replace Reader but to work along side him giving some relief to both Watt and Clowney.

Osemele developed significant back problems in college, but played through it. In 2014, he finally decided that he could no longer do so, and underwent surgery in which the bulging disc was addressed along with some of the cartilage and bone in his back shaved down. His performance has continued to be hampered by his back which will likely require further surgery.

The Raiders were not happy with the $10 million they paid out last year, and was not about to pay anywhere close to that [for which he was scheduled this year] for below average performance to remain.
