NFL Random Thought of the Day

Could be he's trying to force them to use the tag?
But why? The Eagles are definitely trading Foles, and definitely not in the division. Foles will get to pick any other team, because his suitors will only pull the trigger if he agrees to an extension. I don't see how this would have played out any differently had Foles accepted the $20 mil option and kept the $2 million in his pocket. He's not one of those guys who is self representing, is he?

I think you're right about the 5MM more pressure it puts on the Eagles to trade him on the off chance that they would have kept him on the 20MM contract. But I agree that if he let it play out, he would have gotten the same thing (traded) and would have gotten to keep the 2MM. Seems like 2MM to get 100% assured he gets traded rather than keep the 2MM and be 98% sure he would get traded. He REALLY wants out but probably not the smartest thing to do.

Vince Young on DWI arrest: 'Just an allegation, I'm not guilty'
Aaron Wilson , Houston Chronicle Feb. 9, 2019 Updated: Feb. 9, 2019 8:38 p.m.

Young was arrested at 4:30 a.m. Monday and discharged from jail on a $500 bail.

Young allegedly had slurred speech, a strong odor of alcohol and failed all sobriety tests, according to police.

"I've got a real good lawyer, one of the best in the country," Young said Saturday during a Tristar Productions autograph show at NRG Arena. "We're going to fight the case. It's just an allegation. I'm not guilty."

The Houston native has been arrested twice for driving under the influence in the past three years.

In this latest arrest, Young's black Cadillac was parked with his hazard lights on at the intersection of Sienna Parkway and Sienna Ranch Road. The arresting officer said when he pulled over to assist Young, he opened the window before closing it again.

In January of 2016, Young was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Austin. He pleaded no contest and was fined $300 and given 60 hours of community service.

Orlando Brown

Highest pass blocking rating of all rookie OT's

0 sacks, 1 QB hit allowed in 760 snaps.

Think the Texans could've used some of this?

I compare Trent Brown to Orlando Brown. Not the most gifted athlete but good enough of an athlete with his huge body that pass rushers cant get around them in 3 to 4 seconds. Once they get their hands on you it's over. Naturally strong not weight room strong.

The guy like that in this draft is Cody Ford.

Does anyone think Flacco is a better option than Keenum at this point? Maybe Joe's mom. And Elway. That would be it.

At this point, Flacco and Keenum both are "interim" QBs, not someone to build your team around. I'm not sure why a team would need two of them if they're both expensive.

I think Elway's going to draft Locke and let him sit behind Flacco for a yr.

I dunno what's gonna happen in the mile-high city but one thing is certain - Elway is really thrashing around to find him and his team a franchise QB.
How many years has he been at it now ?

The collusion grievances filed by Colin Kaepernick and Eric Reid against the NFL have been resolved. [No details will be revealed (unless leaked later) as they are protected by a confidentiality agreement]

From what I've heard, the number he was asking for was >$20 million. With the offer he made, knowing darn well that the AFF would never accept it, Colin "I just want to play football" Kaepernick is probably beginning to doubt that he can still play with the "big boys"............so now that all of this "theater" is resolved, why take the chance of exposing myself to humiliation on the field.

He already has a Nike deal which probably is at least paying Kapernick veteran minimum money and maybe quite a bit more...kinda no need for him to "work"

the risk/reward for Kap playing for the AAF just wasn't there IMO. If he plays poorly after being out of the sport for 2 years it kills his collusion case, because then everyone can't point and say "look you're not even good in this amateur league that's why no NFL team would have you" If he played well then people would just write it off as him playing against scrub level competition. There was really no win for him to go play in the AAF

Then why embarrass himself with a $20 million + counter offer to play?.........Why not graciously decline the AFF's offer like Tebow has done?

So what's the deal here: is this a sellout by Kapernick ?
it feels like that at first...
Then I think of it as the NFL 'settling out of court'. If Reid and Kaepernick didn't have something of substance (how much can be debated) why would the NFL agree to buy him off??

Usually because it's cheaper than a court battle and media attention. No news is better than maybe bad news

I read somewhere the settlement cost each team $684,000 per team. A small price to pay to get Kaep to go away forever. Signing Reid to a dealThat plus the fact that Elway said he tried to sign Kaep and he declined.

I wonder how much $$$$ Kaep got vs Reid or if they just split the settlement after the lawyers got their cut. If they split the $$$$ Reid came out the real winner in this deal.

Him that figure seems low, I've read a couple reports that the settlement was around the $60-80 million range and that would put it at what $22 mil?

Your memory failing Doc? Take a look at post #6545

What memory? LOL
Actually, I tried to post it back then and it just buffered over and over again............I gave up........I thought it never got posted. Should have checked it again.

DE Armonty Bryant was released by the Raiders last May with a non-football illness designation. The designation was not characterized. It started with a blood screen where kidney function was found to be abnormal. When he was thoroughly worked up, a diagnosis of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis was made........a serious kidney condition which commonly progresses to kidney failure. Unfortunately, this is what occurred with Bryant who is now on dialysis and is awaiting a kidney transplant. Meanwhile, Bryant's wife is pregnant.
I have not seen an explanation for Bryant contracting this condition. But this is a disease that is seen in body builders in skewed proportion, as the association of overuse of creatine and anabolic steroid supplements has been determined. This is likely the cause of Bryant's kidney problem..........You may remember that he was slapped with 3 three suspensions for violating the league’s PEDs policy before being released by the Lions in 2017.

Report: Colin Kaepernick asked for $20 million from XFL
Posted by Charean Williams on February 25, 2019, 8:01 PM

The XFL has had talks with Colin Kaepernick about joining the spring league, an XFL spokesman confirmed to Michael McCarthy of The Sporting News.

The discussions took place last fall, and the former 49ers quarterback asked for at least $20 million, McCarthy reports. That’s the same amount the Associated Press reported Kaepernick sought from the Alliance of American Football to play in that spring league.

Kaepernick’s contract demands didn’t fit the AAF’s salary structure, with all players getting the same three-year, non-guaranteed contracts worth $250,000. The new eight-team XFL is seeking to pay starting quarterbacks $250,000 a season, per The Sporting News.

THIS is why he's not playing football. It's not about the Josh Johnson's, Taylor Heinike's and Brandon Weeden's of the world on NFL rosters over him, it's about him demanding a starting job and the big payday. Sucks the NFL caved and settled with this fraud.

Wouldn’t have settled if they did no wrong. Takes two to settle.

Report: David Irving under evaluation for possible suspension
February 26, 2019, 6:48 PM EST

The NFL suspended Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory indefinitely Tuesday for violating the league’s substance abuse policy as well as the conditions of his reinstatement from a previous suspension. Now, comes word from Adam Schefter of ESPN that Cowboys defensive tackle David Irving is under evaluationfor a potential suspension.

Irving, 25, has served suspensions in back-to-back seasons. He opened the 2018 season with a four-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s substance abuse policy after violating the PED policy in 2017.

It is unclear which policy Irving is under evaluation for this time.

That could explain Irving’s tweet from earlier this week when he said he is in the NFL because of talent, not because I’m a “model citizen.”

A report last month said Irving had missed multiple drug tests, failing to comply with the NFL’s drug policy.

Math and QB genius Elway and the Broncos as it stands are on the hook in 2019 for $40 million between Flacco and Keenum.........and the Broncos may not be able to trade Keenum as they would want to............total estimated 2019 cap space as of now only ~$18 million.

As expected, the Eagles did not tag Nick Foles.

No tag for Eagles FA QB Foles … Philadelphia G.M. Howie Roseman announced at his combine presser earlier today, that the Eagles will not be tagging QB Nick Foles with either a franchise or transition tag. There had been speculation that the Eagles could franchise Foles, who is set to become a free agent next month, with the hope of trading him, particular to a team outside the division. However, the Eagles are severely cap-strapped and franchising Foles would have forced them to make cuts elsewhere. And where Foles ends up could have a major impact on the the 2019 draft as whichever teams does eventually sign him likely won’t be also looking to take a QB with an early pick. Right now the buzz around the league is that Jacksonville could be the favorite to land Foles, but if they don’t the Jags, who currently have the 7th pick in this year’s opening round, would almost be forced to trade up for one of this year’s top QB prospects. Meanwhile, other teams that could offer Foles include the Giants, Miami and Washington. Stay tuned!

Elway has to hope that CK agrees to remain on board as a backup with no chance to compete for QB1. I think CK will stay on QB2 to collect his paycheck and Elway will cut him to avoid fan backlash if Flacco fails to deliver.

With Giants stating they'll keep Manning.....CK may be looking at QB2 duties in the NFL.

He has an overinflated opinion of himself.

Elway said Case would have to rework his deal in order to stay on the team yesterday. If I'm Case I'm forcing John to pay me or cut me. People will pay pretty good money for a premium back up or bridge starter, he can probably make more taking his money from the Broncos and signing another contract then what John wants him to restructure to.

I'd bet Elway is willing to make him the highest paid backup in the league.
