this made me actually laugh out loudAnd those conditions are not having an offense that punches itself in the face throughout the game and not having special teams that really pushes the term "special".
Yes on both counts. Sarcasm doesn't always travel well on message boards. loljail for suggesting a poll?
or for being sarcastic about it ?
(we might need a poll for this as well)
I have optimism because OB has nothing to hide behind now. The offense is 100% on him. If it fails, he failed and it will be there for everyone to see. If he succeeds, it's because he succeeded and it will be there for everyone to see.I honestly do not understand how anyone can have any optimism for 2017 with this kind of news.
A great defense can only do so much, as we have seen in the playoffs for the past two years.
The Texans defense was playing to win against the Patriots, and Brady was beatable in that game. Unfortunately, this offense, led by what I'd consider a lukewarm OC/HC (at best) was anemic. Defense cannot carry the entire team, so I have absolutely no idea how I'm supposed to muster up some "give a crap" for 2017 when all I can realistically expect is status quo and maybe a repeat of 2016 (and that's if this division does not get better, which I think it will improve in 2017).
This team has proven that the old mantra that "defense wins championships" is obviously conditional. And those conditions are not having an offense that punches itself in the face throughout the game and not having special teams that really pushes the term "special".

If this means success or a regime change, I'll be
... If he succeeds ...

As I've posted before, I think OB lets his coaches coach. The OC handles the offense and the DC handles the defense. OB has little input on either, other than an overarching strategy. The coordinators are in charge of the tactics. OB is Ike, RAC is Patton and Godsey is Fredendall. Now OB gets to play Napoleon. Almost.Honestly, I've thought the offense was on him the past three seasons. Patsy Godsey aside, this is clearly O'Brien's baby with all it's complications and NE-wannabeisms. Godsey was here to implement O'Brien's vision...which was obviously on the shortsighted way of things.
A productive offense, of course. And maybe a few less failures on ST. The D will be there, barring a major injury bug on that side of the ball.what is success?
winning season?
going to the playoffs?
at least 1 playoff win?
none of the above, but 16 weeks of entertaining football in the regular season?

What the bleep. I guess BoB wants to make sure we maintain the offensive trajectory and reach the goal of being the 32nd ranked offense.

If he doesn't choose who starts and there are verifiable facts that prove it, I'll start wearing my very ownYep,
I just hope he gets to cut /add/start the Qb's of his choice.
If that happens then we will know he didn't get railroaded out of town.

Based on?You took the words right out off my mouth. The small glimmer of hope I had when they fired Godsey is now gone. It's like closing time, when there are only fat chicks left at the bar, its like "well... should I? Nah fk it I'll pass."
Do we really not have an OC next year?
The same one we had last year.

Yes! I was VERY interested in what you had to say. Thank you docbar.
Heck yeah! I would tap it all night long. Big girls need loving too!The small glimmer of hope I had when they fired Godsey is now gone. It's like closing time, when there are only fat chicks left at the bar, its like "well... should I? Nah fk it I'll pass."

OB shared and had veto power on play calling most of this season. I'm also referring to game planning and practice sessions. I'm 100% assuming that. I've never attended a training camp or practice session for the Texans.Who you are describing is Mike Tomlin with the Steelers. Watch him during the game Sunday. He does not carry a Denny's menu with him. He truly lets his coordinators call the plays, and he is there to keep the team focused, motivated, make calls when needed, and basically be a commander.
Now look at images of Bill O'Brien on the sideline. He always has a Denny's menu, clearly with offensive plays. He lets his DC run everything on that side of the ball, but O'Brien clearly involves himself with the offense, even taking away the play calling responsibilities from his OC like he did earlier this season.
I don't know if one style is better than the other. Successful examples can be found with both methods. It obviously depends on the individual coach.
But, back to the main point, this is O'Brien's offense from the beginning and he finds coaches that share his philosophies. Unfortunately, he's been unable to find a QB to do the same in three seasons.
Well, maybe they have come to the conclusion that they don't really need an OC to call the six plays that Osweiler can run.
They're up to six?
Who?Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
