Brock Gets The Start

I think Brock wouldve started if both were healthy. Notice obrien says savage is the backup if clears concussion protocol.

I hope all present and future Texans HC's are paying attention to this. NO MORE QB SNEAKS! EVAH!

Not a surprise. Savage came back into the game after "clearing protocol" then sat the 2nd half after "failing protocol".

This was all calculated by the FO.

I don't think we should look too deep into this. O'briens hands are tied. Savage hasn't proven himself to be a starter in this league & he hasn't cleared the concussion protocol.

I'd be more interested in who O'b starts against the Patriots, or whoever. But against the Raiders rookie, we should be able to win this game regardless...

I just don't see any scenario, aside from injury to Brock, that Savage sees the field again this season. I can't imagine OB would be going into the Pats game thinking to himself that Savage would give him a better shot then Os after no game time and likely very limited practice. Then again, I didn't see him benching Brock either.

As I read it I could literally hear Rocket Raccoon saying "You just want to suck the joy out of everything".

Who tied O'Brien's hands? He did it himself just like he cost the team Arian Foster in garbage time against Miami. He is literally (using my Jeremy Clarkson Top Gear voice here) "The worst coach.... in the world" when it comes to making stupid decisions that hurt his own team.

Maybe he didn't want Brock Osweiler but I'll tell you one thing. That butt-chin looking sack of dicks deserves Brock Osweiler.

And that's because there isn't one. IF the Texans find themselves going to New England to be sacrificed it will be because Brock Osweiler just QB'd the Texans in Bill O'Brien's first playoff win ever against the Oakland Raiders.

Brock will have "earned" the start. This is a team that rode Brian Hoyer all game long despite the fact that he was playing like he'd been paid by the Chiefs to turn the ball over as many times as it took.

There's no way in hell Bill O'Brien could get away with putting Savage back in and he probably wouldn't do it unless forced to anyway.

I will be really angry if Savage is the backup on Saturday. If he is healthy he simply has to play he gives us a much better chance to win than Brock

At least if Osweiler loses to a third string quarterback it should be his last game starting for the Texans. Trying to look at any positive here.

I think this spells the end for Savage in Houston. He's been given chances, he hasn't looked like a starter (neither has Brock) and he simply can't stay healthy. No matter who the new faces will be behind center, it appears we're far from done from the endless Kirby QB carousel. I can't blame the FO this time, they spent the money to bring in Osweiler but it just didn't work out.

I think the Texans and I are about to part ways for a while.

Yes to both of these posts. When I read this as it popped up on my phone, I threw up in my mouth a little bit. How anyone can fail to read between the lines here is baffling to me. This is coming straight from McNair, and Savage was never going to be allowed to start this game. I don't know what it will take for Texans fans to quit drinking the Koolaid they are serving over on Kirby but at some point, people are going to quit just acting like blind fans and realize you are a consumer that deserves a better product on the field. The only way we get a better product is by getting a GM that runs the football operations and the McNairs keep their hands off.

So, isn't there some kind of repercussion for playing a guy who failed protocol? Or is the test such crap that one can pass and then fail in such a short period of time between tests?

Either the test is a joke and guys can and have been playing while concussed or you're right, there was an intervention from someone higher up than BOB.

I'm with Herv, this is becoming ridiculous.

I like Savage more than Os, but I agree with this move. Savage isn't at the point of his career where he can miss some practice days and start a game on Saturday. He needs as much reps & practice possible to be ready for Saturday. Since he still hasn't cleared the concussion protocol yet, and unable to practice, we have to move on.

It's also not like Savage was setting the world on fire. He was struggling too.

If that is the case they should let Weeden be the number 2 this weekend and keep Savage inactive.

It's win-win scenario. If BO plays well and the Texans win, great. If he stinks up the field and the Texans lose they don't have to go to Foxboro and be humiliated again on national television.

This is where I'm at.

I had high hopes for Tom Savage, but now... & I've only got here since Sunday's game, now the Texans need to draft a QB for next season. Someone who can possibly beat out Brock Osweiler. He doesn't need to be a first round pick. I'd like to see a second.

I'd rather have preferred that Savage showed some promise & between him & Brock we get someone that will buy us some time. I'd rather draft a guy that we believe in, rather than taking a guy we were pretty much forced to & figure out how to make it work.

But right now, I'm seeing Brock, Weeden, & rookie for next season.

What's the quickest that a player can clear protocol? If cleared, Savage will likely be the backup. If not, Weeden will be active.

What I'm curious about is, will OB adhere to the common practice that a starter doesn't lose his job due to injury. Will Savage start against NE?

I guess knowing that the Texans have lied to their players before regarding their injury (Watt), there is also the chance that they just told Savage he failed when he didn't.

There's an independent guy, not associated with the league or the team who is in on the evaluation on game day. I wonder what did that guy say. Did he say Savage was cleared & our team doctors failed to clear him "to be safe"

I give up on the season officially. Brock sucked ass all year and there more INtS than TDS. At least savage other than the one fumble when the oline was at fault kept the ball safe; which is important in the playoffs.

Mcnair, Brock, Smith, and are all morons and I wish they would leave the team. It is a sad day to be a Texans fan.

I was hoping Savage would get a shot.

I don't care who plays or who they draft because this offensive brain trust can't coach QB's and it's offense sucks like a Hoover. They would probably have Tom Brady looking Mike Brady in no time. There is no QB they cannot ruin in one offseason.

Until BOB is gone, and/or Godsey gone and Bob turns the keys to the offense over to someone else, this is going to be a **** storm in Houston. And Ricky needs to be gone too and we need a real GM, not some McNair lackey.

A question for all of you.....

What would you need to see from Osweiler against the Raiders to make you think he might give us a chance to win against the Patriots?

Seriously. 70% completion percentage? 10.1 yards per pass? 4 TDs? 0 Ints?

I don't think there is anything he can do vs. Oakland that would make me think we would beat the Patriots. Even if Brock put up some ungodly stats this week it would be the first time all year and I would doubt he could do it back to back weeks.

I would need to see angels in the backfield.

Our great hope is that half of the Raiders players are now either already out for injury or have a strong need for braces, crutches or surgery...........and that maybe for once our offense will show more propensity for reaching the end zone without the use of some good seeing eye dogs assigned to everyone.

There's nothing any of our QB's could do to give me confidence going into Foxboro. They are a juggernaut and we have proven in the past with many different QB's that we are just not capable of winning those types of games.

WTF did we collectively do as a city to deserve this crappy karma??! :voodoo:

Maybe they win this one, and then NE breaks Brock. And I don't mean physically hurt him, but cause some kind of break in his spirit that makes him be really honest with himself and everyone else to admit that he doesn't belong in the NFL and taking more money from the Texans in 2017 is just a form of dishonest thievery.

And since he's a good man (Texans worthy!), he doesn't want to be a thief and steal from Uncle Bobby, so he has a press conference and announces his retirement just days after the 67-2 debacle in NE that is forever etched into our collective memories as fans.

Just being Brockless in 2017 would make us all feel better. [/daydreaming]

Put 45 on the board because you'll need that much to have a chance against the Pats.

Seriously, the only difference between the Texans and the Browns right now is that the Texans can get a few more Ws because they play in a division nobody is good enough to take.

(not really, sorta, but that's the frustration level I'm at right now)

90% completion, zero INT's, 400+ yards passing and 4 TD passes.

As another poster mentioned, there is nothing Brock can do to convince me he can be the QB of the future. His windup is way too slow, he seems unable to properly read a defense, and he isn't very accurate.

If 2 of those 3 things could be fixed, I'd have some hope for him. But does anyone really see that as a possibility?

This team nauseates me and like DB, I can't fathom what we as Houstonians have done to deserve the putrid brand of football we've had to endure for as long as Houston football has been in existence.

Now we may as well forget about this game unless Oz gets benched early in favor of Weeden. And that just ain't a-gonna happen.
