Blake Bortles

Blake Bottles won't be winning any Super Bowls.

At most, he's a place holder, like Hoyer. Where Bortles may eventually be a starting quality place holder, & Hoyer is a "won't stop you from drafting a franchise QB over the next three years" type place holder.

There were other QBs in that draft that I liked a lot more than Blake Bortles; AJ McCarran, Aaron Murray, Zakk Metenberg... I know the experts disagree but it is what it is. & it's not that I'm trying to be the smartest man in the room. It seems the target has shifted where athleticism takes precedence over "traditional" drop back QBs.

I'm old school. I prefer the drop back passer. While I don't & didn't put Savage in my "draft this QB" group, I can see OB putting him on his list.

& another thing. We're on track to finishing the season with more wins than Jacksonvillle & Oakland.

Good luck with finding a drop-back QB from today's college ranks. It seems like everywhere you look college QBs are operating out of the shotgun and running some sort of read option offense.
Now those "running" types CAN be retrained (see Cam Newton) AND there's not a thing wrong with having a guy who can run when necessary to extend a play (see Aaron Rodgers).

The one thing that drew me to Bortles was his ability to direct game winning drives. Primary reason why Belichick drafted the Comeback Kid Brady and the same primary reason why Walsh took the Comeback kid Montana. Shows they have cool calm demeanor to operate in high stress situations.

Tom Brady

Joe Montana

Yeah, remember how much we talked about this throughout this thread? How many people just **** all over this guy and said he wasn't worth a #1 pick, and compared him to guys like Gabbert and other failures all because Kiper said he wasn't worth our pick. A bunch of people looking really foolish now. And they will continue to for a very long time as Bortles will be in this division for a lot of years making the TExans pay. Those fans and the Texans management will be constantly swallowing crow for many years to come.

I just dont like the way teams dont invest enough in the most important position in team sports. We're full of microwave, instant gratification. Qbs take time and risk. There are alot of qbs like rodgers who nobody projected to be as good as he is now. Hell, they drafted a qb in the 2nd and 7th round because they didnt know.

Boy wonder is lighting up the Falcons.
12/22 157 yards 1 INT
Down 17-3 to a "stout" defense lol
One of the NFL network talking heads (might have been ESPN) likened him to young Brett Favre, his good is pretty good but his bad is really bad. Sounds about right.

Bortles shines and Texian/Texecutioner put it in their spank-bank and start crowing. Bortles shits the bed and the other side chimes in.

I'm so sick of Blake Bortles. Still, as sick of him as I am I sure wish we'd taken him instead of Clowney.

Makes sense to me. I've never been particularly enamored with Teddy. Also at the time we made that first overall pick we would not have known that he would fall that far.

Still... we're talking about with the benefit of hindsight. Even with his injury history & slow start, is there a late first, early second rounder with as much "promise" as Clowney? (There may be, I don't know)

So the question still is Bortles & who? Sua-filo? I can't see being happy with Bortles & Sua-filo any more than with what we've got now. Thinking we'd be better off because we have Bortles is unrealistic.

When the game is in play, he's been no more affective than Hoyer. Our defense would still need to win games.

For the future, sure. But for now... Clowney & Bridgewater or Clowney & Carr sounds better than Bortles & Sua-filo.

Maybe Bortles & Safaris Jenkins, or Bortles & Marquis Lee (Jordan Matthews or Stephon Tuitt). I could see that.

If you're doing it with the benefit of hindsight, I'd go Bortles/Bitonio. But what do I know, while I didn't have any problem with Clowney at the time, if I'd been making the pick, it would have been Greg Robinson. That would have been horrible.

Mack and Carr would suit me better if I get to use hindsight.

I'd also get a little busier in free agency looking for a backup RB and some OL help in that case.

Hey, I wanted Jake Matthews. Not horrible but just a safe pick. Not a difference maker though.

1. Bortles
2. Jeremy Hill - RB
3. Preston Brown - LB
4. Bryan Stork - OC
5. Telvin Smith or Avery Williamson - OLB
6. Zach Fulton - OG
7. Andre Hal or Shamar Stephen

???

C'mon PapaL! He is a garbage stat master. Someone should tell him they are down 50 at the start of the game. lol

Trust me, I'm with you.
It was a counter to the Texian's "Not bad company" post from the previous season. Trying to highlight what "not bad company" is now.

"Jaguars coach Gus Bradley said he’s sticking with Blake Bortles at quarterback. The third-year signal-caller owns the league’s second-lowest passer rating out of 32 qualifiers"

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/NFL/9320/Blake-Bortles

Coach Gus Bradley said he "firmly, firmly believes" in Blake Bortles, and he'll remain the Jaguars' starting quarterback.
Chad Henne doesn't do anything for the Jaguars. He hasn't thrown a meaningful pass in over two years, and rookie Brandon Allen wouldn't be any sort of upgrade. Still, Bortles has been one of the worst, if not the absolute worst, starting quarterbacks in football through Week 7. He's 29th in both completion percentage (59.7) and passer rating (76.4), while tossing the third-most interceptions. Bortles' play has fallen off a cliff after what is looking like a fluke 2015 season. With Bortles not producing in a dream home spot against the Raiders this past Sunday, he's firmly off the fantasy radar until further notice. Oct 24 - 6:18

Damn...his situation has completely flipped.

Worst part is that someone is going to look at his stat line and say he wasn't too bad. Looking at the box score they look to be down 36-8 before two garbage time TDs (3:11 and 0:01 left in 4Q).

33/54 337 yards 6.2 avg 3 TDS 0 INT
2 sacks for -15
59.6 QBR
97.5 RTG

I watched this game last night. There is no question that Bortles was absolutely horrible along with the rest of the entire Jaguars team. Bortles has become a product of his very poor coaching. Two bad OC in 3 years, a bad OL and being sacked an enormous amount. This game was a classic picture of team quitting on their coach, throwing in the towel and just mailing it in. Gus Bradley is dead coach walking. He may be fired before this weekend is over. GM Dave Caldwell may also get the axe.

With the game out of reach, his motion seemed slightly improved... is it a mental thing?

I remember watching a show a few years back where Hank Haney was trying to fix Charles Barkley's awful golf swing. So, Barkley would do just fine on the driving range, follow the instruction, hit the ball relatively well, but the moment they got out on the course and there any little bit of pressure and stress, he'd revert back to his old ways basically subconsciously. Might be a similar thing here.
