Strong Arrested for Marijuana Possession on Sunday

Did ya'll know the NHL doesnt test for recreational drugs? I'm not advocating that approach (actually after looking it up they will target a test for cocaine by the end of this year) only that the NFL acknowledge that many players 'for whatever reason' seem to benefit from use. I think I remember Mark Stepnosky saying he would smoke for pain management. Now all the scary head injury stuff and if it helps these guys then as long as they are being responsible in their adult decisions then let them be. I say end the cannabis prohibition entirely strictly on the racist roots, but lets not open up Pandora's Box.

To everyone saying Jalen was being dumb riding around with weed I agree. To those saying he should be cut and this is indicative of future behavior I disagree.

I don't care if he smokes hippie weed or not. Little bit more concerned that he might be a dum bass.
This is where I am at too. I was really looking forward to Strong getting some playing time so we could see what his potential is. Actually, I am still looking forward to that, but it concerns me that he doesn't have enough sense to not get caught. I mean, it ain't that hard! Hopefully, stoopid off-the-field doesn't translate to stoopid on-the-field. We'll see.

I mean good grief! Keep your nose clean for a few years while you are in your prime, then you can smoke all the weed you want after your career is done. :brickwall:

I am probably one that finds it ironic that NFL thinks pot will mess you up but concussions, broken bones, pulled and torn muscles and ligaments, sprains, etc are just part of the game.

Oh lord it is "legal" in some states. Who cares, i like to smoke weed every now and then.....so what.
So nothing. That's what.
But getting caught in a moving car, that's sopomoric. Unless you're running for King of all Fools, you don't do that.

It is not widespread knowledge, but the joint NHL-NHLPA program administers extra testing on one-third of performance enhancing substance test samples that all NHL players are required to have unannounced at least twice a year. These extra tests test for recreational drugs. So at one point or another, all NHL players will have been tested for recreational drugs. The difference is that in the NHL, there are no sanctions for positive tests of these substances unless the player is convicted of a drug-related criminal offense.................the sole purpose at this time is to have the player marked for the purpose of getting him "help" by the NHL.

What's happened with this lax policy which includes marijuana and cocaine is that the NHL has experienced an alarming increase of cocaine users. And in fact, there has been an overall increase in marijuana use, partly because of its use by a player to bring himself down off of his cocaine highs when needed. It is for this reason that the NHL and NHLPA are now in discussions contemplating changing their approach to testing and to the consequences of the use of recreational drugs.

When someone does something this stupid, they should immediately
have to re-take the S.A.T.

If they fail, their alma mater needs to be hit with NCAA sanctions..

It's weed, I'm not overly concerned. I'm more bothered that he didn't have someone in the car to claim it. Have Ray Lewis type friends and not Mike Vick type friends.

As opposed to Business Man weed? Or sports players weed? My baggie didn't come with a label.

Just trying to shake things up for a belly laugh.

There are some owners and coaches who would seem to have no issue with marijuana use in football. In 2012, Texans owner Bob McNair said, according to Tania Ganguli of the Houston Chronicle, that there were three types of players he would not tolerate on the Texans: "someone who abuses women, someone who is a habitual user of drugs and someone who rebels against authority," Ganguli wrote.

Then McNair elaborated on the drug comment: "The second thing is if there's been substance-abuse," he said. "That can become a habit, and they might bring that habit with them. I'm not talking about someone who smoked marijuana. I'm talking about a persistent user of drugs. We take them off the list."

The marijuana comment could be seen as McNair endorsing its usage in the sport. McNair hasn't since spoken publicly on that topic.

I was repeating the word after I saw the previous poster use it because I thought it was funny.

I've never considered my weed to be pigeonholed either.

I guess after OB's lauding statements re. Strong's upside, Strong must have mistakenly interpreted those comments to mean the quickest way he could reach his "high" potential would be with the use of weed.:kitten:

UGH!!! That soooooo bad! lol

The selective outrage is funny. Too bad he doesn't have dreads so the closet racists can join in the fun.
so.. a racist cannot say anything if a black guy does not have dreads? Dang that's a lot of rules being put on someone who isn't too swift to begin with. Maybe there is some sort of "ignoramus 101" to help them out?

In a Sally Field voice at award ceremony "my coach likes me. He really likes me...now where is that celebratory doobie?"

A not-so-wise man once said "Study high, get high scores!" I might be paraphrasing here, but it didn't too well there, but maybe things are different in football. :hmmm:

At the very least, we still have the :d: to look forward to again. If they can pick up where they left off last season, woo boy! Hopefully we will have a QB who is not allergic to the redzone by then!

I don't care if it's weed, alcohol or Flintstones vitamins...if your employer says no, you don't do it.

Company time vs My time. As long as he's performing his tasks to the best of his ability and isn't high on company time, I personally do not care. No worse than alcohol and/or tobacco.

Unless you're getting arrested for it.

Unfortunately, our personal opinions don't come into play. I agree with you personally, but I don;t partake of the herb because my employer says I'll be fired if I do. I like my job more than the herb.

Wrong. You sign the contract you know what's expected. There are plenty of careers out there where the concept of "My time" is at best nebulous and at worst non-existent. Most of those careers pay very well so I feel not one bit of pity when a bonehead screws it up by doing something like this.

Can't deny I'm disappointed in the young man. Don't understand why so many people want to make excuses for him or make out like the NFL is being unreasonable. I get it guys. You like weed. That's cool but if your boss tells you it's off limits as a condition of employment going in and you do it anyway you deserve to get whatever ration of **** they give for that.

I couldn't agree more, while I personally don't mind and would smoke on a regular basis if I could. My employer says I can not, so I do not. My family relies on me making the right choices so I continue to earn a paycheck, provide food, housing etc.

You are in the NFL - not just a job but a dream for many, and just like the rest of us working stiffs your employer has rules. Just more of the entitled bull crap I'm not a fan of.

You're not so naive to think that there are people who do smoke marijuana and are just sly enough to beat the drug test? Just like in the NFL.

Drug testing is another 'Big' Industry created to keep that 'rich getting richer' machine well oiled.

I hold two government clearances. Trust me, I follow.

You keep banging the same drum, but none cares that he smoked Marijuana. Seriously, no one cares. What people are commenting on its the incredible level of dumbass involved to risk a lucrative career I in the NFL. Most people don't get that lottery ticket, so most people don't identify with pissing it away. Then there is the element of dumbass that has him out driving around while doing it. Then there's the element of dumbass that has him driving in a car with no plates! That's just begging for it.

The guy just appears to be pretty fkn stupid. No one cares about marijuana. Substitute the word liquor in the story and it gets worse.

Except that he wasn't driving around intoxicated, he was a passenger. The driver was not cited for DUI. Maybe they purchased the weed and we're going to go smoke in a more "appropriate" setting?

Crazy how mad you get a such a silly little thing. Dude is gonna lose a career over 3 joints bro? Lmao are you listening to yourself? The NFL has allowed wife beaters, cocaine addicts, dudes who have KILLED other human beings behind the wheel to continue to play, but Jalen Strong makes one mistake and it's 'off with his head' and his career is in jeopardy and you are just soooo offended. Got it.

I'm perfectly capable of thinking you're a dumbass without being offended or upset at all. That you can't fathom that speaks more to your sensibilities than mine.

I think that about Jaelen Strong as well, especially if he was riding around in a car without plates while there was weed in the car. That's just stupid. Whatever you think about the law, it is the law.

Thanks for call

Thanks for calling me no one. It's my favorite name when used by those who think everyone thinks like they do.

Maybe not............since the police said that the car reeked of marijuana smoke and Strong admitted to have smoked it.

They can, but the dreads (and neck tats) make it easier for them to identify a "thug".

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...trong-arrested-on-marijuana-possession-charge

"According to the report, when officers made contact with Randall they detected a strong marijuana odor "coming from the inside of the vehicle."

"All of the occupants were questioned about the odor, if they had marijuana in their possession, and if they had a medical marijuana card," according to the police synopsis. "Strong admitted that he was possession of some marijuana and advised that he did not have a medical marijuana card."

Strong then gave police a cigar box with three marijuana cigarettes inside, after which he was arrested on a pending charge of possession of marijuana."

How can you tell that it was marijuana 'smoke' and not just the ridiculously strong smell the stuff has nowadays? I've heard of numerous incidents where guys have gotten busted on the sheer smell alone without even burning up a damn forest as some are implying they were doing.I find it odd that the driver wasnt arrested for DUI I guess too that he must have been the most sensible of the 3 young guys and was abstaining to be a model citizen and overall awesome dude? Better yet the picture some are trying to paint is Jalen Strong burning a fat blunt by himself in the backseat of a Maserati while the other 2 guys (who were released) were trying to kick off a mini intervention and tell him how he cant mess up his "lottery" and that he's ruining his life and career by smoking weed. Not sure where in the police report there was an admission of having smoked vs just simple possession. I mean they cops are asking for marijuana cards I would guess that protocol would be a bit different if the policemen thought that they may be impaired behind the wheel since its hard to say who was smoking the marijuana in the car?

Too bad them boys weren't rolling around in HTown where its wisely no longer over crowding court dockets and jails and police are given the ability to use common sense in situations like those.

Only one "no one"(looking at you, Marshall) gives a damn about him smoking weed, being with friends with weed, whatever. It's not about the weed. It's about the decision making. There's absolutely no way to spin this event into anything but a poor decision. We're all Texan fans here and want to see a draft pick that the Texan's traded up for to make better ones.
