Strong Arrested for Marijuana Possession on Sunday

Oh snap!!!

SCOTTSDALE - A Houston Texans wide receiver was arrested in Scottsdale for marijuana possession over the weekend.

Jaelen Strong, who played for Arizona State University, was arrested Sunday before midnight while riding in a black Maserati near 5th Avenue and Drinkwater Boulevard.

Stupid SOB. The ability is there but apparently his head is a foot or two up his posterior.

Well, it's not like he was some kind of phenom solution to our WR issues. We still needed to keep adding to that position anyway.

Would the real Jailin' Strong please step up?

Just legalize it already.
Sure, just vote for the Donald and that may happen.
Seriously though. I hope Jaelen Strong has a big second season.
He has the size and skills to become big time in this league.
This guy is a 10+ a year TD wide receiver if he gets his head on straight.

I can't figure out what's wrong with these athletes. Is getting high on weed so damned important that you'll risk your career over it?
If you absotively, posilutely must get high, keep the stash at home. Don't ever let it in your car.

I could care less what strike it is. Kick his f'cking ass off the team. Not for smoking it, but for being stupid enough to get caught.

Without knowing all the facts and him personally I'm not going to condemn a kid for making a mistake. If he fails to learn from it then I'll view it differently. Did you also think Cushing should have been run out of town? How many other Texans have been busted for the same mistake?

MMMMMMmm the stickest of the ickest the green Queen of the earth ....PUFF PUFF

he really should of just got a medical card

Just as an aside, legal in the country does not mean it will be automatically OKed by his employers to possess or consume.
I'm subject to pre-employment, post-accident/injury and random drug screens. Even if I work in Colorado or Washington. Hell, companies can ban employee's from smoking cigarettes for crying out loud. If it's a term of employment and you agree to it, follow the damned rules.

He already was in OB's doghouse half of last season coming in out shape. A rookie comes in out of shape. Now, he gets busted in the offseason, and do you think for one moment he won't be in his doghouse again?

I never for one minute questioned Cushing's dedication to the game. Never. But Strong, I've questioned his dedication right from the get.

I always get a chuckle from the good ol boys on this site and their hard lines.

Strong isn't going anywhere if he comes into camp in shape and ready to build on 2015.

Cushing was pregnant, not smoking weed. If Strong is pregnant and smoking weed, he should definitely be ran out of town!

On a serious note, this is strike two for Strong, in my book. Strike one was showing up to OTA's (or was it mini camp?) over weight and out of shape. He now has a track record for immaturity, lack of discipline and poor decision making. Dez Bryant can pull that kind of crap off. Strong? Not so much. He's not even the acknowledged #2 WR on the Texans, much less the #1.

I dunno about this one. McNair is a hard liner who seems to value good character over talent in a lot of situations.

If Strong shows up in shape and knows his playbook, he could very well stick. People who smoke weed aren't known for healthy diets and strong memory retention.

I don't think he's going anywhere, but I wouldn't be shocked if they drafted heavy at wideout and tried to move strong tbh.

I don't expect that, but if it happened it wouldn't be terribly shocking to me.

Reason is, he was already in the dog house last year and hasn't proven anything. Now he's drawing the wrong kind of attention to himself off the field. It makes you question his maturity, intelligence and dedication.

Texans aren't just going to ignore this. He will be talked to at least and this will be another mark against him. If he sticks around and the incidents start piling up he won't be here long.

YOu are aware that a healthy portion of the NFL consumes marijuana not only during the offseason, but throughout the year. I've heard that the 'drug' test the NFL administers isnt very random and quite hard to fail.

This situation sounds like he was out riding with buddies and took the rap. Its weed. I really thing some of you are over reacting and sensationalizing something very, very common. If he was driving under the influence (his friend who was driving wasnt cited for DUI by the way) then I'd be singing a different tune.

Dude won the INdy game and was showing positive signs the last 2 games. He makes plays, you slap him on the wrist and move on.

From what I've read, the NFL doesn't test players, during the season, for anything but PHD's. Illegal drug use is an offseason test.

They're tested for recreational drugs during one window a year, starting from late April through about the end of the preseason.

Fair game the rest of the year.

Fair game in which way? Not tested again? Tested after an injury? Subject to random testing?

For clarification, the amended NFL CBA marijuana rules passed the end of 2014 have become more lax than the original rules:

The NFL ramped down it's stance on marijuana use. The threshold for a positive test has been increased from 15 ng/ml to 35 ng/ml. The punishment for a positive test is also changing. As is the case now, a first-time offense lands the player in the substance abuse program without a suspension. The primary difference is the punishment for a second positive test: simply a two-game fine. Each additional violation receives the following progressive discipline: four-game fine, four-game suspension, 10-game suspension. A player can therefore test positive for marijuana three times without getting suspended.

But the rules adjust/accelerate from the above, if infractions occur while the player is in the system:

A first offense enters a player into Stage One of the intervention program for up to 90 days. Spot testing can occur at any time. If a player tests positive again while in Stage One, he'll be subject to an immediate three-week fine and advanced to Stage Two.

In Stage Two, players will be subject to unannounced testing up to 10 times a month and marijuana is separated into its own discipline structure (see above). A Stage Two infraction means he receives a 4 game suspension and will advance to Stage Three where the player will face a 10-game suspension for his first marijuana infraction and a longer ban for subsequent violations.

Players remain in Stage Two for a minimum of one year and in Stage Three for a minimum of two years. Under the old policy, a player in Stage Three remained there for the rest of his career.

Meh... it's just Mary Jane. Alcohol related stuff (well alcohol in general) and performance enhancing drugs are way worse IMO. When was the last time we heard of a player punching his wife or killing someone because of some THC?

you do understand that it does not matter what you or anyone else thinks about marijuana; it is against NFL policy.

I agree that weed should be legal. It's really not a big deal to me. It's not a whole lot different than alcohol in my book.

That being said, as an NFL employee you make millions of dollars a year to play a game. All you have to do is abide by a few rules. One of those rules is don't smoke pot. Breaking those rules and endangering your career as a professional athlete is a gross sign of either a) severe immaturity or b) plain stupidity. Or both.

I certainly realize this. What I was trying to poorly say is the punishment shouldn't be too bad. As far as NFL violations go, it could have been a lot worse IMO.

Just legalize it already.

I hear you but they can legalize it nationwide and the league can still tell its players that it's off limits. Something tells me that after the country figures out that it's no different for all intents and purposes than alcohol the NFL will still be saying it's off limits.
