Waiver Wire Priority (Texans)

Now that the draft is done the Texans are in great position to acquire a vet or young player who is caught in a numbers game. The vets can be tricky having a heavy salary or injury history could sour the Texans on a lot of vets cuts, but a possible diamond could come our way. Anyway waiver wire as a tool could help fill the roster. Do you guys see any potential salary cuts that could help out the Texans?
 
I think we should take a shot at Dustin Keller. Coming off injury, but there is really no doubt that (if healthy) he is a superior option to Graham as a move TE.

IF healthy.

Keller knocked out all but his LCL in that injury (or should I say Swearinger did the knocking out). It wiped out his ACL, PCL, and MCL. On top of that, his knee totally DISLOCATED with reports of peroneal nerve damage due to the dislocation. The latter injury can many times permanently leave weakness in the muscles that flex the foot upwards....not good for running or cutting efficiently. Furthermore, with any injury to all the ligaments with dislocation, there is no doubt that he sustained significant cartilage damage, which in itself would have long-term implications. Finally, a totally reconstructed knee would likely lend itself more susceptible to future injury.

If I was Rick Smith I'd be fairly confident that the coaching staff would be able to find an adequate move TE between Graham and Griffin. I'm not sure bringing in another TE is really a priority right now. If I were to suggest a free agent with injury concerns it'd probably be Pat Angerer or Desmond Bishop. I'd also look into Erin Henderson but with those DUI's I don't think McNair would sign off on that one.

I hope there will be a vet or two cut due to cap that we can get bit cheaper not having to pay his bonus but just salary or be able to renegotiate.
 
Well, Tarp is the only ILB they have at the moment, right? Yeah, I know ... Cush. Hard to count on a guy with two blown out knees and has only played a handful of games over the past couple years. Brooks Reed I'm not sold on being an inside backer. It requires a certain skill set that differs from that which a hand-in-the-dirt pass rusher has developed. Takes years to get the sort of instincts that good LBs have. Reed has spent his entire career on the LOS.

Maybe they should get a couple.
 
I clicked on one of those waiver wire links and came across what we already knew.

The Texans have again talked to OLB Brooks Reed about moving to inside linebacker. Houston has been giving Reed training camp reps inside for the past few years. After the selection of Jadeveon Clowney No. 1 overall, now is likely the time Reed actually makes the transition. The Texans have a gaping hole next to ILB Brian Cushing. Clowney and Whitney Mercilus will man the outside spots. Reed has proven to be an adequate run defender throughout his career.

I don't know about the rest of you but Brooks Reed playing inside linebacker excites me quite a bit. I've always felt he was very capable of playing there. Now that we have the overall talent on defense to support his position move things will look a lot better. Last season we didn't have the personnel to run a proper 3-4 defense. Now we do.
 
If recovered from the year old knee injury (September) I'd give CB Patrick Robinson a look see. 2011 & 2012 were decent years. Turns 27 that month also.
