2014 Post Draft Depth Chart

Marshall

Not pretty, but ALIVE!
I just thought it was time to see what the roster might look like with draftees and UFAs before attrition and injuries set in. I'm going for a 54 man roster taking one position at a time per post. But it might be better to list all signees initially as we pare down the roster.

I think RT will be a battle between Quess, Williams and Newton and I expect Quess to win that battle.

I expect Savage to beat out at least 1 other QB and I think there is a very good chance he beats out two. Fitz will probably start the season, if Savage is, what OB expects him to be, he will be starting by the end of the year.

I expect Graham to be our first TE at the start of the season.

Andre Brown should be our #2 back, Blue our #3. The other two have a shot, but I think Brown and Blue have a leg up right now.

From what I have cobbled together we have 105 guys coming to Houston to at least try out.

Brooks Reed coming to Texans to try out as ILB? Give me a break.

The real question is where will Clowney fit in. Can he handle setting the edge and dropping in coverage as is required of a SAM LB, or will he be used as the principal rushing LB'er on the left side? If he goes to the left side, where will Mercilus go, to the right side? Can Mercilus handle setting the edge, good against the run?

Will Clowney be only a 3rd down guy with his hand on the ground?

did each position really need it's own post? put your thoughts together partner. this is my "post draft guess". i'm positive there will be at least 5 different players added to this lineup, but otherwise it shouldnt be too far off. one of note is i expect yates to be traded or dropped.

QB - Fitz, Keenum, Savage
HB - Foster, Brown, Blue
FB - Prosch
WR - Johnson, Hopkins, Posey, Martin, Rookie/Sophomore
TE - Feido, Graham, Griffin
LT - Brown, Williams
LG - XSF, White
C - Myers, Jones
RG - Brooks
RT - Quess, Newton

LE - Watt, Matthews
RE - Crick, Pagan
DT - Powe, Nix
LOLB - Mercilus, Williams
ROLB - Clowney, Tuggle, UDFA?
ILB - Cushing, Reed, Bullough, Tarpinian, Mohamed
CB - Joseph, Jackson, Harris, Mack, Hal
FS - Lewis, Starling, Keo
SS - Clemons, Swearinger

K - Bullock
P - Lechler
LS - Weeks

I hoped this would become a copy. edit and paste with comments type thread.

Please feel free to make the adjustments you think are appropriate ad post them.

I'm not a multitasker and have been interrupted and forgotten where I was with every interruption.

So you have Savage starting and Mercilus, a first round pick, backing up Clowney instead of starting over Reed with Tarpinian next to Cush?

interesting....

lmao that got me. i'd rather not put him there, but the UDFA may be even worse. until we sign a veteran for camp, it looks like bullock is the best option - sad as it may be.

Man...We have some smallish corners...

Brandon Harris is only 5'9" ????

edit: Not a big deal, but I'm showing him as 5'10" everywhere I look.

Still...That's a small group of corners.

Can we start a new thread with this as the original post?

On passing downs, Watt, Clowney, Nix on the line with Cushing between Reed and Mercilus in front of five DBs.

If Texans move Brooks Reed to ILB next to Cushing, Clowney and Mercilus will be OLBs in base 3-4. That's three first-round picks and one second rounder at LB.

*Updated after cuts today. Ray Graham (RB), Chad Spann (RB), Rico Richardson (WR), Phillip Supernaw (TE), Loyce Means (CB), and Steven Terrell (CB/S).

I would probably throw Quessenberry into the mix at RT. Other than that, looks pretty much dead on.

I hope you are right, but as soon as he was drafted last year by the previous regime, Quessenberry was characterized as a "fit" for Kubiaks ZBS that was their featured scheme for the OLine. OK so I know that the new guy may mix it up, but I'm thinking he's going to emphasize the power-plays more from what we've heard. And I'm still waiting to hear something, anything positive about Brennan Williams: is he even going to participate in this weeks OTAs ?
And if the X-man is going to play guard which seems to be the case from all we've heard, I think one of the biggest mysterys of the Texans Draft was not taking somebody to help at RT ? Does OB really have that much confidance with what's on the current roster for the RT position ?

From what we've heard? What would that be? How many Ferentz & their disciples do they have to bring in for folks to understand they may be upsizing ZBS like Seattle but they haven't shown any indication of moving away from it as the base scheme (also like NE)?

Q by the way is the same size as Jake Matthews. He's not undersized.

Interested to see if Q added some upper body strength in offseason.

( We could have a "Q" and an "X" on our offensive line. May impact which consonant we draft in 2015.)

Yep,

A player isn't a finished product after a yr or two in the NFL. It appears that Quessenberry has gotten bigger/stronger during his down time.

Witzmann is a guy that intrigues me as a RT option. I could see him knocking B.Williams off of the roster. BOB didn't draft Williams and has no favorites.
