New HC candidates

Mangini is a cancer. Crennel as a D-line coach I could go with.

Never heard that before. I know in cleveland and with the jes they played hard for him. Defensively, they were top prior to him leaving. With the jets,he made the playoffs his rookie year. In sf,he's some kind of qc coach.

Yeah, I remember his as being a solid DC. 3 Super Bowls with the Pats who, at the time, were led by their defense moreso than Tom Brady.

Unfortunately for him, his lasting legacy will always be his failed Head Coaching stops, the nickname "Mangenius" which he failed to prove as a HC, snitching on the dude that made him what he was (Bill B Spygate - what a B move snitching on your mentor), and micro managing his teams as an overly controlling HC.

LSS - He was a great DC and probably still is.

So you like all of the current names in circulation more then Saban?
With few exceptions, I sure do. He's used to being master of his own universe, it just can't be that way in the NFL.

I think he'd be fantastic for the horns.

Saban shouldn't even be allowed back in the NFL after boning Miami. The same goes for Petrino. Petrino should be banned from the game all together

Shaw is interesting but I have a feeling that he might choose to stay at Stanford. I was under the impression that Stanford is known for really good defense the past couple of years but I see he was the OC during the Luck years and he has experience being a QB/WR/RB coach. If he can be that offensively minded and have his defenses still be that good, it's definitely a plus. I would want to know who he plans on being the DC.

Lovie Smith, my concerns are him and the offense. He's a guy who has hired buddies to run the offense and it was absolute trash (pretty much). Offensive lines and WR corps were terrible until Cutler got there, and even with Cutler the offensive line was still really really bad which bogged everything down. Defenses were outstanding though and I think he could easily work the talent we have on defense around to running his Tampa 2 system, depending on what we do with our 1st round pick. His offenses from Chicago scare me though.

Cowher - Too long spent away from the game and I think nostalgia is more the reason people want this than anything else.

For me, I think Bill O'Brien has taken the lead as my #1 candidate, although I have to admit that I have fairly limited knowledge of most of them, O'Brien included.

Just look for it. He ran teams by fear. Not what I'd go for

Finbaum just said he is hearing the #Texans are interested in Saban.

This was Finebaum's quote, tweeted by Nuno..

Saban: current open in right now in the nfl. My info this afternoon is UT is not the only group in TX that wants Saban, Texans as well.

I'd love it. Better than O'Brien IMO.

For those who don't know Paul Finebaum... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Finebaum

This cannot get any crazier. But I'm not buying that the Texans are trying to get Saban for a minute.

This is part of the chess match going on between Mack Brown and Nick Saban right now.

I believe this particular bit of info is part of the chess match between Saban and Alabama and the end game for Saban is a more lucrative contract extension.
Someone from Saban's camp is feeding this information (or disinformation) to Finebaum, IMO.

Well, according to the Longhorn rumormill, Saban is in Houston today, so it could make sense. Maybe we are getting Orlando Pace'd/Leigh Bodden'd so Saban can get 8 million a year out of Bama.

I have a hard time seeing Saban as a Bob McNair or Rick Smith kind of guy.

I don't see Nick "Casually stepping over a player having seizures to go to his office" Saban working out in the NFL

The dude quit his last stint in the NFL. **** this guy

EXACTLY!

Although this story still cracks me up:

DAVIE, Fla. -- Miami Dolphins rookie Manuel Wright apparently is having a difficult time adjusting to the NFL, and was in tears Tuesday.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound defensive tackle from Southern California -- the only pick in this month's supplemental draft -- broke down during an on-field workout session.

Dolphins coach Nick Saban appeared to be shouting, or at least talking very sternly, to Wright, who was later seen walking off the field, escorted by a member of the team's staff, and lifting the front of his shirt to wipe away tears.

I'm not a big fan of Saban's but the fact that he's a big meany-head makes me like him a little more than I did before.

Saban could be the next Pete Carroll -- a guy with both NFL and NCAA experience who was more known for his success in the NCAA than his so-so record in the NFL.

I put Carroll and Saban in the same bucket too, before Carroll came back to the NFL.

But it looks like I was very wrong on ole Pete.

Anyone considered bringing in Vic Fangio as a Head Coach? He's had a few decades of experience coaching defense on some level, and has been a DC for 4 different NFL teams. He really turned around the 49ers defense when he joined the team in 2011 with Jim Harbaugh. He hasn't been a HC before, but he's only 55 and will probably get a shot in the near future.

More on him:

Here's a video of him discussing how to attack different pass protection schemes:

So ..Linemen have feelings too. signed Johnathan Martin

Pete Carroll and are Saban are totally different in their styles. I can't remember any college coaches with Saban's personality working out in the NFL. The hard-hearted disciplinarian from college tends to turn the locker room against themselves real quick. Schiano being the latest example

I heard someone else bring him up as an option, as well.

I'll always remember that first year when we beat the Steelers 24-6 even though our offense only gained 47 years. That was so awesome. Great defense there.

I don't know if he's a HC, though.

Probably just recruiting since we're a rather good source of high school talent. Briles is here for recruitment right now as well. We'll probably get rumors left and right at this point though it can't get any better with the Longhorns also looking. Going to be rumors all over the place! lol

He's recruiting Tony Brown from Beaumont Ozen. 5 star.

It's Houston...Just a connecting flight.

Bob, just SAY NO.

That is all.

I'm pretty much like this...

Hell yeah...

Shaw
Horton
Bowles
Wiesenhunt
Saban if available
Sumlin if available

"Nah, homie" list:

O'Brien
Lovie Smith
Wade
Jack Del Rio

Saban? That guy is an attention whore and a cancer. Let him continue winning championships at a level that ultimately doesn't matter in the least.

Man, this thread has slowed down. I guess that means that everyone is pulling for Wade.

:bluesbro:

or theres nothing to talk about until the season ends or we actually bring in people to interview...everyone seems to have their guys, but until we proceed in the process, times will be slow
