Would You Want to See AJ Get Traded?

Wow, the comment " I don't care if he gets a ring unless its with the Texas" is uber selfish and I can't agree with it whatsoever.

I hope Dre gets his ring before retirement, with or without the Texans. He deserves it.

i know its not gunna happen, but id like to see it. guy is a hf that deserves better than this.

No player dessrves the chane to get a ring. Dude has been well compensated. Tbe fact is that he rathered getting sure thing money than finder a better team.

When did the Texans become a charity? A 3rd rounder is absurd. I frankly don't care if AJ gets a SB ring unless it is with the Texans. And most importantly it would kill the Texans' cap with dead money.

Agreed. I have a deep respect for AJ but it will do nothing for me personally if he leaves and gets a ring.

He needs to stay and retire a Texan.

If he gets a ring with another team, fine, but I won't give a crap about that. What I care about is the Texans. The Team. While I do admire individual players on The Team quite a bit, if they leave and go play for another team, they are now The Enemy.

Texans as a team first, loyalty to individual players second. Sorry, I can't go along with your "selfish" remark. It just seems silly to me.

100% agree. Good post Thorn. Sorry - MSR.

Fans - short for fanatic - are supposed to be selfish about their team. Undying loyalty and allegiance will cause that in a person.

So go ahead and root for the individual player. The rest of us will continue to root for the team.

The Ravens only got a 6th for Bouldin who's cap hit is close to what AJ's will be next year .... I think they are comparable players at this point in their careers..

That sounds like some dumb crap TK would say.

:kitten:

two more years. after that, if the texans are nowhere near superbowl contention then i would say yes.

Micheal Jordan played for another team. Hakeem did as well. So did patrick ewing. Jerry Rice. Joe Montana. the list goes on.

If those players who are much greater and won championships can play for another team, then so can dre.

Those wanting to keep dre no matter what are selfish fans. Dre deserves better than matt schaub and david carr.

Thanks for the education on how to be a good fan I really needed a laugh.

Look who we are talking about for Pete's sake, its not David Carr, its not domanick Davis, or Aaron Glenn or anybody else who has ever put on a Texan uniform, its Andre ****ing Johnson!! THE face of this franchise who has lived up to everything this franchise stands for.

Yall go ahead and take this high road, and team this and team that like I don't want the same things, yall run Dre through the meat grinder if yall want, i won't do that and I guess I'm in the minority, but I find it sickening. SOME players deserve more respect than that and #80 is one of those guys and I want nothing but the best for that man, he embodies everything that is right about a professional athlete.

"Just win baby" no matter how right? Damn shame.

and what exactly does this franchise stand for?

Not firing people who suck at their jobs and instead give them contract extensions?

How to lose in excruciating fashion?

You sound like Matt Schaub going through some texan worthy delusion right now.

Thanks for the selfish fanboy education.

I don't understand this mentality. The only thing I care about is the Texans winning. We are not a charity. I think it is retarded to consider trading AJ to another team to chase a ring. If we do trade AJ, it should ONLY be to get better, not to help a player with a last hurrah. Eff that weak ****.

Take a look in the mirror. YOU are the one blasting people about being "uber selfish".

Perhaps the mirror will also provide you with that desperately needed laugh, too.

So let's send him somewhere else where he might get a chance for a ring?

You're all over the place. Get your logic in order before preaching to everyone else.

Perhaps you should turn down the douche factor if you want anyone to hear you.

I hated that Earl Campbell never got a ring. But I hated it even more than he ended his career as a Saint.

So for you to get on your high horse and act like you possess some moral superiority is the epitome of goofy.

"Just win baby" no matter how right? Damn shame.

Winning is why they play the game.

Are you a Houston Texans fan? Or are you an Andre Johnson fan? And which allegiance do you put first?

Wow, the comment " I don't care if he gets a ring unless its with the Texas" is uber selfish and I can't agree with it whatsoever.

You don't get it. I will root for AJ to do well anywhere he goes if it happens EXCEPT where it negatively impacts the Texans. If he goes to New England and we are playing for the conference championship I sure am not rooting for him that day.

You are the one taking it too far. You are putting the player over the team. You are asking the team to get worse to the detriment of all the other players, coaches and the fans. Sorry, as I initially said, the Texans aren't a charity. Their job is to do the best they can and getting rid of AJ is counter to that effort.

I want to see AJ retire a Texan, never tainted by another team's uniform...
aj isn't going anywhere. He is our Ernie Banks.

Agree. I want to see AJ retire a Texan and go into the HOF a Texan.

Just for grins, here's AJ's rankings amongst WRs by PFF the last 5 years:

2008: 2nd/111
2009: 4th/107
2010: 3rd/111
2011: 30th/115 (only played ~1/3 of usual snaps)
2012: 1st/105

He's rated 3rd/107 in 2013 YTD.

I would love to see AJ Green get traded.

Me too! We should offer them Ben Tate, all the remaining pieces of his ribs and the half-cup of "Potential" he stashed away in his locker along with Matt Schaub's bit of earlobe (where he stored most of his "Franchisiness" and whatever was left of Sam Montgomery's blunt.

Knowing the Bengals they'd probably take it.

man you guys are hardcore. this was just a would you theoretical scenario and in no way close to ever happening. but, i guess i got my answer, seems like 75 percent would rather he go down with the ship. guys given me too many good memories to not wish better for him.

Since I root for the ship rather than the deck hands, yeah.

meh its a gamble lets say hey do we hold on to older players to long or do we ya know keep him forever

I would only trade AJ if we can get a 1st and 2nd round pick but that wont happen

I also know of HOF players who never got a championship mostly because of the team that didn't go on to another team and I'm not aware that they are suffering as a result... Dan Marino, Anthony Munoz, Jim Kelly, Bruce Matthews, Merlin Olsen, Dick Butkus and Barry Sanders.

The things I can see that puts these in a similar "class" with Dre are that they were supreme talent players, HOF'rs each of them I believe and I'm taking a little liberty here, as I'm not old enough to have witnessed a couple, but they seem to me to have been "UNSELFISH" players. That said, I personally think it's unlikely to see Dre insist on leaving for the sake of a championship. It doesn't resonate with his actions as a player and face of the franchise over the past decade, nor as a person from what little I've witnessed through media in his off the field actions.

I would not want to see him traded. I'd rather see him play out and the Texans get him there!

Keep in mind we all agree that Schaub is not a quality QB.

  1. YTD...... 8th in yards
  2. 2012 ... 4th in yards..... TD numbers in line with the other top recievers, catches over 20 yards in line with other top recievers, catches over 40 yards in line with other top recievers.
  3. 2011... played in only 7 games
  4. 2010 ... 6th in yards..... TD numbers in line with the other top recievers, catches over 20 yards in line with other top recievers, catches over 40 yards in line with other top recievers.

Other than the fact that he is 30, He's showing no signs of slowing down.

I'd like to see us trade for Josh Gordon, but hell no, I don't want AJ getting traded.

I'd salivate over the AJ, DeAndre, Josh Gordon three headed hydra especially since Keenum can get the ball to all of them.

man im starting to think about it. i wish we keep him, but i think he deserves a chance with a contender.
would like to see him with brady.

possibly frees up money, maybe gets us a 3rd rder and AJ gets to make a deep playoff run the next 2 years.

He has chosen to stay here all these yrs, i doubt he wants to play anywhere else anyways.

Andre hasn't given up on the Texans..... & he's a lot closer to the situation than any of us.

First, the $$$. Here's the breakdown of the cap hits the Texans would take if they traded Andre by Tuesday, or sometime in the off season:

Cap hit if traded by 10/29 - $11.3 million - The Texans don't have that much cap room available, so that's a non-starter.

Cap hit if traded in 2014 offseason - $6.9 million - That costs almost $7million more to trade him than to keep him. Hardly freeing up money.

Does AJ deserve better? I know I deserve better as a HOF fan. But as William Munny says, "Deserve's got nothing to do with it."
4 pages? Seriously? C'mon man!

Have 4 have 4 pages would ya go 5 would ya go 5 -

5!!!

I would be interested in seeing Andre with a Peyton Manning, or a Tom Brady, but then I believe he would be under-appreciated, the same way Moss & Welker were.

Other than that, I'd just as soon get a better QB in Houston.

No, I would not want to see AJ traded. I'm too hyped up to see how AJ does with a QB that will trust him in the red zone and can actually hit him in stride.

As wacky as Kubiak's been lately, maybe there will actually be some scoring plays called for AJ and he can quit being the decoy that everyone in developed countries have keyed on for the last 11 years.
